Fun for a girls week.

Overall had a great time. Room service was iffy. Sometimes did a fantastic job, other times, not so much. Our view was of the back and the water system ran non-stop which was loud. Buffet and Steak House was very good. Italian was a little disappointing. Strictly a buffet with very little pasta options. The Jerk Chicken on the way to the ocean was the best chicken I have ever had.The beach was clean and had plenty of shelter. Our only wish was it had a bar down there to save many trips back to the pool bar. Bartenders were awesome. Wish there were more than one shop onsite.

Very Nice Resort, especially for it's size!

Awesome Resort! Very Clean & great service. Awesome Beach & Sand areas, definitely one of the best ones we saw on our beach walks past other resorts. Very good food & lots of restaurants to choose from. Very big resort that hosts a large number of people, but rarely felt crowded. Many Bars & Adults Only allows them more range in their offerings. Big fans of Riu Resorts, they do not skimp on All Inclusives! We went here for our 5 year anniversary without the kid & had a wonderfully relaxing time!

Big resort

Review for Riu Republica We recently stayed at the Riu Republica on the last week of March.  I hope this review will help you make an educated choice. There was some pluses and minuses to this resort. I will state the pluses first.   The price was right. Our all in price was around 1600 each person and we flew out of Buffalo airport.    Opon arrival the airport was a zoo. That's not the fault of the hotel. But I can't leave it out. We waited no less than 1 hour and 30 minutes to get out of the airport and the same on the way home. Punta Cana airport has some major problems.   Our transport was Amstar. We book that with cheapcarribian when booking our trip. That went well. No complaints.    Our check in went well. Fast , curtious and pleasant.     Our room was clean and fresh. We were in the newer section of the resort. In the back. By the water slide. We were on the garden side facing the road and lots of trees. It was quiet for the most part. The other side of the hall , rooms faced the pools and bars. They would have been very load most if the day. And evening. Our walk to the lobby, bars and restaurants was all covered walk ways. I say this because it rained a lot and it was a long walk. So we were dry-ish.   The resort was 90% neat and tidy. The other 5% was the quests being slobs. Cigerett butts left behind by guests was the most mess that we found. There were 9 pools. All with different types of music and a quiet pool. No Jacuzzis though. I did miss that. Love the bubbles. The beach was long and nice. The dry sand was hard to walk on but by the water was ok. There were far to many chairs on the beach. There were a mess all the time. There was yoga and other excersize classes and a nice gym but we did not take part. The night time entertainment was just ok. It was the same dance troup every night doing different style dances. They were good but not Vegas good. There was also some funny entertainment at the other end of the resort for those who wanted to be silly. Classic stuff like getting people to take off there shirts. Lol . The disco was not good. To small to loud and to much strobe lighting. They must not know that it causes seizures. Yes someone did go down at the disco. Don't know why. The food was just average. We liked the buffet the most the steak house was second in line and all the rest were not good and off the list all together. Missed the mark, as they say. The bars, well. I will not have anything good to say about the drinks. We are not big drinkers so when you pound 5 shots one after another you would think you would be on the floor. Nope. Not even a buzz. So if you are looking to get a little happy on your vaca, you will need to get drinks from unopened containers. I.e., Champaign, wine, cans of beer from the room. So the last point. Why we are changing were we travel. We are NOT smokers. But at all inclusives, everyone else is. We could not find a seat at any pool or on the beach with out sitting next to a smoker. It was the worst. I would hope that if the RIU company reads this review they would consider making at least one pool in there huge resort a non-smoking pool. It probably won't help us. We will travel the states going forward.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

A palatial retreat where the mixin' and the minglin' is only with adults - no kids or crying babies at this resort.

You're located on Dominican's Macoa Beach - the mind-boggling ocean views go on for days.

Taking the introductory scuba lesson (it happens in the pool) - you'll be ready for the ocean waters in no time.

The pools are spacious - you won't bump into each other - no one wants to be that close (especially if the bathrooms are faraway).

When you're ready for your next cocktail, all you have to do is just swim on over to the bar.

Detoxing in the steam bath at the gym (all those icky work impurities will stream out of your pores).

The whirlpool bath that makes you feel like a jelly fish.

What We'd Change

The resort is large, but you really don't feel crowded and the restaurants can accommodate everyone easily and there is plenty of room at the pools.

Why You Should Go

So close to the airport you'll land and be at the resort in a flash - you want your vacay to start immediately!

The Mediterranean-style village Altos de Chavon is near - authentic architecture, swoon-worthy boutiques, cafes & more.

Also in Altos de Chavon, check the Amphitheatre for Kandela! - don't miss this Caribbean musical review.

See the lush landscapes at the Punta Cana Ecological Reserve: plants, animals, coral reef, freshwater lagoons & more.

Hone your golf skills and tune up your tennis swing - both are available near the resort.
