Great time!

Occidental Punta Cana was Absolutley amazing! The beach was beautiful! And the pools were nice. Room was clean and comfortable. Saw a couple bugs tho. Also check out time was 12-00pm and at 1045am they cut our power to the room.. which i wasn’t to happy about but overall it was amazing. Some staff were a little rude and didn’t help. Others were amazing and sweet and friendly. Food was eh. Best place was probably the taco place or the snack place above the pool. Overall my stay was amazing. Everything went smoothly i had no problems whatsoever minus the power going off at 1045.. i researched for months on a resort to stay at and this place was def an amazing pick! I would most def return to Occidental Punta Cana !

BLAH

I seriously don’t ever write reviews but this deserved one and not in a good way. After a long and complicated red eye flight, from the moment we got there, the front desk staff was rude and unorganized. We arrived before check in time but we were checked in and were given our room numbers written on the hotel map beforehand when we received our wristbands. We were told to return at 3pm for our room keys because our rooms weren’t ready which we understood given the fact that we had gotten there at 12:30pm. We had lunch and booked our excursions (the excursions rep was very helpful, I wish I would’ve gotten his name) When we went back to front desk to get our room keys at 3pm, we suddenly were in separate rooms when we specifically requested rooms next to each other and double beds in each. The front desk person that assisted us, Bladimir, gave us the biggest run around as to why the rooms that were originally assigned weren’t available. It was lie after lie. We asked to speak to a manager on several occasions and they were never able to present us. We finally gave in and headed to our rooms only to realize that one of the rooms had a king size bed and not double beds like I had requested. I understand if this were a last minute request but this trip had been booked since November and it’s April. You would think they’d have more than enough time to think ahead to accommodate us. Throughout the rest of the stay the food was mediocre at best. As a Dominican myself, I can say it was certainly not the best food. The only thing I appreciated was the fresh fruit at the buffet every day. We had to leave the hotel for dinner on two occasions because we were so sick of the food. (Literally). Thank goodness for the excursions that we decided to go on because otherwise the trip would’ve been that much worse. One of our two rooms had 3 occupants and somehow only 2 towels were always placed in the room for the first 3 nights by housekeeping even when asked for 3. My friend spent almost two hours to get an extra towel. I don’t know what they have phones in the room for because front desk never answers. To top it all off, Wi-Fi wasn’t free and very expensive for it to work so poorly. We booked a massage on the beach on our last day there and the masseuses were late! We had to extend our check out which only allowed us to stay in one of the two rooms and we were also charged $10 per hour after such a terrible experience that morning and throughout the trip. Apparently the spa and hotel don’t have anything to do with one another which makes no sense. It was very frustrating to save up and wait on this trip for 5-6 months and for it to be this mediocre. My friends and I are honestly satisfied with very little but the rudeness and unwillingness of the staff drove us over the edge every day. Overall, my friends and I made the best out of the situation and simply enjoyed the beach, pool, and sun. The resort grounds were pretty nice and updated and some staff members tried to be as helpful as they could but the hierarchy and miscommunication of staff was very evident. Next time I’ll spend my hard earned money at Bavaro Palace Deluxe where I know I’ll get the service my friends and I deserve.

Great Value for the Money

Nice resort. Beautiful beach. Grounds are well kept. Food quality is fair to good. Steakhouse was our favorite. This was our second consecutive year for the resort. We really enjoyed it each year. Hard working staff. Beautiful location.

Relaxing vacation

Overall, we enjoyed this vacation. Accommodation's were clean. Food at the restaurants was very good. The personal pizza's from the snack bar were great and perfect for a late night snack. Pools and beach well maintained. Unfortunately, if you didn't exchange your beach towel early enough in the afternoon, they ran out of fresh towels everyday...we had to use the same towels 3 days in a row. The nightly entertainment/shows were enjoyable. Entertainment staff were very energetic and got everyone involved in games, dancing, etc... . The shops at the hotel have mostly souvenir type items. We wanted to stop at the Harley Davidson store in town but wasn't sure if it was wise to venture out on our own. It would be nice if the hotel/local tourism office had a shuttle running back and forth to local shops and downtown just to spend a couple of hours away from the beach and pools. We booked a sea walk/snorkel excursion (Dolphin Island-Sea Quarium) through the hotel...would highly recommended...Staff was fun and friendly, divers were very patient and reassuring (I was VERY nervous). An incredible experience!!! A must do!!
