Nice getaway!

Hotel was clean, entertainment very professional. Didn't like the package sales people trying to sell you vacation deals, We like to go anywhere we please, without being tied in to certain destinations, Food and services were very good. We just had bad luck, losing almost a day, due to hurricane Irma., We would recommend this place to anyone.

Well priced resort great for a girls trip

I recently returned from a trip with some girlfriends for a few days to Now Larimar, one friend booked the trip for herself and when she told me about the deal she got I decided to join her. I have been to Sandals resorts in Jamaica many times so I had an idea of what to expect in my head, this was my first time at an all ages resort so I was concerned. Check-In - The check-in process was easy. All of the front desk staff and bellhops were very helpful and friendly. We were handed fruit juice and a damp cool towel upon arrival. We arrived at the resort about 1:00 and unfortunately rooms are not ready until 3, we went for lunch at the Carnival buffet and hung out in the lobby until our rooms were ready. The bellhops hanging around made sure we always had full beers in our hands as we waited, around 3 on the dot we were taken to our rooms. Checkout- Quick and easy, just turning in the room key and towel card and completing a quick survey. Rooms - The rooms are nice sized with a huge king sized bed, a desk, a dresser with a TV on top and I had two chairs and a little table. There was a double sized closet with a safe inside. A mini fridge that was stocked daily with soda, water & beer, a coffee maker and a HUGE bathroom with a large shower, a separate room for the toilet and a massive jacuzzi tub. Plenty of towels were provided and they leave shampoo, body wash and lotion that have a piney smell. My balcony was very large with a table and two chairs. The AC only gets as cold as 21 Celsius...I would have liked the option to get it a little cooler but it was fine. Housekeeping was efficient and did a great job. I came back one night to rose petals and hershey kisses on my bed that she had turned down. I was located right by the elevator so I was concerned about noise but it was very quiet, I rarely heard anything when I was in my room. Wi-Fi - The wifi in my room was very strong and I had no issues checking social media or watching youtube. I did not put international on my phone so I was at the wifi's mercy and I really had no issues...I was able to pick it up at the pool, in the courtyard and restaurants and on some spots on the beach. Beach - The beach has lots of loungers and thankfully a good amount of shade available. There is a decent amount of seaweed but I did see them working to remove it as they could. The ocean was a great temp and wasn't too rough. The staff is great with walking around and removing empty cups, plates, etc as well as getting drink refills. My biggest issue with the beach was being constantly bothered....cigars, jewelry, sunglasses, excursions, etc. Pools - The pools are clean and are large enough that we noticed kids but they weren't right on top of us. We could rarely find shaded loungers around the pool...tons of loungers with towels on them but very few people actually sitting in them. Restaurants - Carnival Buffet - A typical resort buffet with lots of seating. I was always seated quickly and drinks were constantly refilled. The omelette station at breakfast is great and fruit is plentiful and very fresh (I ate POUNDS of mango in a few days). Barefoot Grill - I saw hamburgers and hot dogs. There were a few hot options in chafing pans and a cooler with sandwich/sauce toppings and desserts. Several times while sitting on the beach I would grab a plate of cheese fries. Tamarindo - Mexican restaurant with some different options. I tried the cactus salad which was different and vinegary and the Yucatan style fish that was good, the exquisite banana dessert was amazing...some type of banana cake with ice cream. Spice - Reservations are required and when we checked we were told that the day we wanted they were only available at 9:30 or 10...we did not want to eat that late but were told we could eat the a la carte rather than the hibachi show which was perfect. This was our favorite food all week...we each ordered several appetizers before our meals knowing they would be small and they were delicious. Excursion - We took a shopping trip to Punta Cana Treasure. Nice free trip from the resort. There were vendors set up in the courtyard one night that seemed to have similar prices. We also arranged an excursion to ride dune buggies, go to Macao beach and to swim in a freshwater cave. We got about 15 minutes at Macao beach and there were so many people at the cave that I didn't even walk down in but my friend who did said you could jump about 25 feet down but she did not feel safe at seemed like very few people were actually jumping and swimming. Both the beach and the caves were swarming with vendors. Cons: Towel Cards. This was one of the things that I just didn't like. You are issued a card at the beginning of the week to get a beach towel and you have to turn your card in at the end or you're charged $30. Maybe towel theft has been an issue but I wish they just had towels out to take & return them as you need them. We were often at the pool after the towel stand closed so we would have to take our wet towels back to our rooms and hope housekeeping didn't grab them. I felt like it was one more thing I needed to keep track of. This is a nice resort that I would recommend to anyone wanting to check out Punta Cana, kind of low key as far as all inclusive resorts go. It was perfect for us who just wanted a relaxing girls trip, it would be great for a family trip. The resort isn't huge and it's easy to navigate. The entertainment staff does a great job of providing activities throughout the day at the pool and shows in the evening. It's clean and very well kept up. We used bottled water to brush our teeth and didn't have any stomach issues. The staff was all incredibly friendly and helpful, anyone was happy to answer questions or take photos. We did tip daily to housekeeping, wait staff, etc. but it seemed like tipping was all over the board...some people tipped constantly and some seemed to not tip at all. I didn't observe any difference in service level. Reggie & the other Amstar reps were so helpful with all of our questions. Yendel was always looking out for us and saying hello and hooked us up with the shopping trip that we did versus the other free resort trip. Cesar at the front desk was very helpful getting us in room locations near each other. All of the wait staff was quick and friendly and remembered you from day to day. We had a great time and the price was right, I would not hesitate to return!
