Wonderful Time @ the Bavaro

Right from the easy check-in to the time we checked out, we had a wonderful time! We were there the last week in Jan.'18. We were so happy when we saw our suite. Plenty of room. A sunken living room with an L shaped couch, coffee table and on the other side of the room there was a small dinette table and chairs. Glass slider led out to a covered balcony with another couch, small table and patio chair Bathroom has both a stand up shower and a tub. I also as a makeup mirror ladies. We would go to the Main Buffet in the morning. We met an awesome waitress and waiter, Mariel, who was just so sweet and Margarito who was polite and attentive. They would spot us as we were walking in and welcome us with open arms. We always found plenty to eat and a good variety. We spent most of our days around and in the pool. The foam party in the pool was so much fun and we were disappointed the they only did it one day. The beach is beautiful and great for walking. There is a "straw market" just past the Grand on the beach. They did not bother us as we walked by. We ate lunch at the Buffet near the pool or the BBQ on the each.Again, plenty to eat and a good variety. We ate at the Japanese restaraunt one night and it was very good and entertaining. Another night we went to the Mediteranian for surf and turf. We didn't like that so much. We are from New England and realy don't care for the waum wata lobstah ( New England Accent ). Every other night we ate dinner in the Main Buffet where we were again met by Mariel and Margarito. They were just so nice! Always plenty to eat. The shows are really good considering that they are put on by the "Star Friends" ( dancers and singer that are not pros). My husband did go to the casino and I went once - it is small and I have to say that I did win but not my husband :). The drinks were hit or miss depending on which bartender was making them. Once my husband found a bartender he liked he would return to that bar to get a drink. All in all, we had such a great time that we are already planning another trip there!

Great resort

Returning again and again because the service is always consistently good. Great location and the smaller bungalow style accommodations ( with no more that 8 rooms per unit) add to the tropical vacation appeal. The beach is great, nice waves but not as bad of a current as other sections of this long stretch of white sandy heaven. Decent restaurants to choose from and good choices of alcohol, premium brands.

Great All Inclusive

This was my first trip ever to an all-inclusive. I relied largely on the reviews, so I will do my best to help other travelers with my experience. Although this was my first all-inclusive, I do travel fairly often. This trip was with a group of 7 adults and one child. I will start with the good; The resort, resort grounds, pools, beach, etc are all beautiful. Well manicured, well laid-out, and a pleasure to experience. Also the service we received from everyone was excellent. They absolutely want to make your trip the best it can be and we had outstanding service from the front desk, to waiters, waitresses, bartenders, even the cleaning staff, We did have an issue with one of our rooms when we checked-in. One room had a strong musty/mold smell. We called the front desk and they sent someone out who basically sprayed the room down with a strong smelling cleaning product. We told them that was not going to be acceptable and wanted a new room. They did give us a new room, which was even closer to the beach, so we were happy with how they handled the situation. The rooms themselves are a good size, nicely laid-out and with decent amenities. (We stayed in a "Junior Superior Suite"). The rooms could use a little "refreshing", the grout work needed some attention, there was rust on some of the fixtures, etc. But over-all a pretty nice room, and very clean. The food was hit and miss. The buffets were very good and had a very large selection and great presentation. Some of the items at the buffets, I didn't like, but there were other items I had that I thought were excellent. I was disappointed with the sit-down dinners. It may have just been the restaurants that we chose, because some of the restaurants we didn't try, looked a lot nicer. But we did the Italian Restaurant and the "Steak & Seafood" Restaurant. I thought the food and selection at both were really bad. The Steak and Seafood restaurant had Salmon as the only seafood choice. I wouldn't call that a seafood restaurant. We also did a Japanese Hibachi restaurant one night, and that was very good.I also wasn't real impressed with the drinks. They did not have top shelf liquor, Absolute was the best Vodka they had, and they only had one beer choice (Presidente). Maybe this is typical of All-Inclusive? Their frozen, specialty drinks were good, but that's because they are so sweet it masks the cheap liquor. Overall we had a great time, loved the facility and would come back again. I can't say enough good things about the service, including the service we received from Cheap Caribbean (also a first for me using Cheap Caribbean) I was amazed at how we were greeted at the airport, driven to the resort and had support for us there anytime we needed it

Beautiful property but terrible haggling

Once we entered the gates into Iberostar it was absolutely beautiful, but as soon as our feet touched the property is when the haggling began. “Buy this excursion, buy that excursion, meet me for a special breakfast to discuss our property.” We have been to many Caribbean islands and this was definitely the first that actually allowed so much haggling inside the resort. You couldn’t even lay on the beach without people coming up to you incessantly wanting you to buy stuff . As a matter of fact the first two mornings that we were there we got a phone call at 8 AM wanting us to meet in the lobby for a so called meeting. On the second morning I pretty much let them have it and told them I was on vacation and that I wasn’t buying anything! The property is absolutely beautiful but we will not go back to the Dominican. save your money and go to Aruba. Aruba is absolutely gorgeous and serene and the only haggling is outside the resort in the open air markets. You will be able to lay on the beach in peace.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive on the all-awesome Bavaro Beach.

Lucy's Club for the kiddos - sand castle-making, face-painting, movies & more.

Chilling with collagen treatments and Thai massages at the stress-defeating spa.

The disco "DC-6" that's styled after an airplane & the DJ that spins tunes in a cockpit.

What We'd Change

This place is seriously gigantic, but we love that golf carts are available for getting where we need to go.

Why You Should Go

It's 30 minutes from the airport - your dreamy Dominican escape will kick in before you know it.

You can enjoy privileges at the other two Iberostars - Dominicana and Punta Cana.

Dressel Divers is right on the beach - get your scuba on.

There's a casino where you can hang with Lady Luck - don't keep her waiting.
