Great beach and spa; mediocre room and staff

Beach and resort amenities exceeded our expectations. Great beach bars and upkeep of the shore.. However, the room left much to be desired (Shower with little water pressure and tub that leaked) and the staff was very pushy upon arrival to try and get guests to attend a timeshare tour. They event went so far as to call us at 8am in the morning, waking us up, to get us down to the tour. Only once I angrily asked them in person to stop calling, did they relent. The spa was amazing and worth a whole half day relaxing there. Overall good value but I wouldn’t go back.

Needs Improvement

We found our experience here to be less rewarding than at other destinations we have visited. The property was nice and well maintained, but the map we were given was very small and difficult to read. There were insufficient signs to direct us to where we wanted to go. Only after about 4 days could we find our way around. The "frozen" drinks at the bars were pre-made and sitting around in containers, mostly melted by the time they were served. The frozen drinks should be made to order in a blender. The selection of drinks was quite limited. The waiters around the pool came by very infrequently and often got our order wrong. There were too many vendors trying to sell us stuff we did not want. The English skills of the staff were much less than those at other resorts we have visited in Spanish speaking locations. The waiters at the restaurants were very pleasant, but they frequently got our orders (and those of others around us) wrong. This was so bad that it became a quiet joke among patrons. The inaccuracy of meal orders was absolutely not due to a language barrier as we speak adequate Spanish and we verified our orders with the waiters before they left our table. The quality of the food was average. We were particularly disappointed with the Mexican restaurant in terms of both variety of selections and quality of food. We do not plan to return to this resort.

Same money for not the same service

It would be very helpful to understand before hand that it depends who you book the trip with reflects if your eating strictly buffet food and drinking cheap alcohol vs top shelf alcohol and fine dining. We were in a party of ten and had to separate during the best of times. That was a bummer!

A Mediocre Experience

We visited Grand Palladium Punta Cana after having a wonderful experience with the Grand Palladium in Riviera Maya in early 2016, however, this resort just doesn't measure up. On a positive note, the pools and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We also had outstanding massage at the spa and enjoyed some quiet time in a warm climate. The Hemingway bar had some really decent cocktails, too! Unfortunately, thats where the good stuff ends. The food, overall, is pretty gross. This is certainly not a place for foodies (or anyone with taste buds for that matter). After gathering a huge plate of seemingly-passable items at the buffet each day, I'd only be able to choke down one or two things (mostly safe carbs). When we checked in, we were told that none of the restaurants required reservations besides the hibachi restaurant, which we could reserve a day in advance. Unfortunately, they were not able to get us into the hibachi restaurant at all during our 4 night stay. On our first night, we arrived at Portofino (Italian Restaurant) at 7 and weren't seated until 9. The food was not good, except for the pepperoni pizza. (How do you mess up pasta??). On the second night we learned from our mistake and arrived at the Indian restaurant at 5:45: fifteen minutes before opening. Service went well and the food here was the best we experienced during our stay. On the third night, I was surprised the Mexican restaurant could be so bad! By the 4th night, we had resolved to eat at the sports bar, where the pizza and snacks were decent. It was a great place to hang out and watch bowl games. Since our dining experiences were less than mediocre, we tried to order room service one night, which never showed up. My spouse called back after an hour and they told us the food was coming, but still nothing arrived. This happened TWICE during our stay. The room itself was clean and the mini fridge was well stocked, but it's impossible to shower without at least a gallon of water winding up on the floor. It was easy to figure out why they gave us so many towels! I imagine the resort was overwhelmed by the influx of holiday travelers, but it was very frustrating at times. Overall, it was not worth what we paid, but we did catch some rays in a beautiful place.
