WORST VACATION

We just returned from our trip and we couldn’t wait to come home. We travel a lot and we go to DR every year since we are Dominican. This time it was a disaster. I traveled with my husband, 10 month old and a 14 year old and I’m also 7 months pregnant. DAY 1- We arrived, checked in and it was fine. We received a room on the THIRD floor. We arrived at the room and there was an instant feel of mugginess and we were not impressed. AC barely works and the lighting is terrible. Now, we’ve stayed at this resort 2 times prior but always stayed in the Hacienda room. They didn’t allow us to stay there this time because we had 4 people. We get dressed and go down to the pool. My 14 year old sister takes the 3 towel cards and goes to get towels the worker gives her 2 towels. She explained she gave him 3. My husband walks over and the employee gets NASTY and accuses my husband of wanting to steal more towels. You think we traveled from New York to steal towels?!?? RIDICULOUS. Moving on to the nighttime, we went to the lobby to get WiFi. The gentleman helps us and notices I’m pregnant and insists he change our room to the first floor since I shouldn’t have gotten a third floor room. No problem, we return to the room at 10 pm to pack up and head to the new room. We get to the new room and it’s full of bugs. They said they can spray chemicals to kill them. We refused since we have a 10 month old infant. They told us they can send us to our previous room and move us in the morning. No one ever called us so we just let it go and stayed in the room. DAY 2 -we walked to the lobby and my husband falls while holding our baby. Slippery floors and no signs- Thankfully they both were ok. Food was ok, nothing spectacular at all. We had to tip the guest services guy in order to get dinner reservations at a decent time. If you don’t, you will eat at 10 pm. We had reservations for hibachi and this is where things got bad. My husband had an allergic reaction to the food. He kept gasping for air and said his throat felt small, he couldn’t even swallow water. Clearly it was a life or death situation. They took us to their 24 HOUR medical center and dropped us off. 30 mins of standing there banging on the door while my husband was struggling, and NO ONE CAME. The employees that walked by seem unbothered and said maybe they went to eat and continued on their way. UNBELIEVABLE. He continued to throw up and eventually started to feel his throat opening up a little. We went back to the room where I gave him Benadryl and went to bed. Day 3- Food was ok, couldn’t get someone to bring us a cup of water or forks. We had to keep asking for it since they were too busy seating everyone else that came after us. Day 4- finally some sun, we went to the kiddie park and it was nice, not that crowded. It was a breath of fresh air literally because there weren’t any smokers that I noticed. Everywhere else SMOKING EVERYWHERE it’s annoying. We went to give in our towels in exchange for the cards and they ran out of cards so he told us to bring the towels when we check out. As if we needed anything else to carry but ok. Day 5- best day ever- checkout time. Everything was fine during checkout. When asked how was our stay we were honest and the employee actually said that the 24 hour medicinal clinic is a complete joke and is there only for insurance purposes- go figure. Moral of the story —SAVE YOUR MONEY. Spend a little more to stay anywhere but here. This was a downgrade for us. Complete circus.

First Caribbean Vacay

Weather was definitely a disappointment. The one day I had, I had my trip to Sanoa Island. Made the whole trip worthwhile! Strongly recommend! Considering the weather, the resort should be prepared and have a “weather” activity or activities ready for bored guests. The food was a major disappointment! Wasn’t bad, wasn’t good. The Principe Grand Bavaro staff were awesome! The accomodations were not. I’d not recommend this place. I’ll be going back w/ excursions planned, but more than likely to The Palladium.

Group Trip and Anniversary

My husband and I love Punta Cana, so on out 5th trip we decided to bring our cousins and their wives. We were so excited for them to enjoy the perks of an all inclusive and enjoy Paradise. We aren't extremly picky in general, craked tile, outdated fans and some dust doesn't bother us, however there were just too many problems during this stay. The room: Yes the rooms are outdated, but as I turned down the sheets the very first night there was hair and stains, both red and white on the base sheet. Also two lights were out, so in the main room it was extremely dark with the two bedside lights only. When we called concierge there was no answer. My husband went to the front desk and they did send people in a timely manner. BUT The maid scoffed and shook her head when I asked her to change the sheets. We even tipped, but we felt like we were bothering her, when after being up for 19 hours all I wanted was a clean bed to sleep in. The maintence man came and replaced one light bulb, left and never came back to fix the other. The shower/bathtub did not drain properly and every night I stood in water that covered the tops of my feet. The toilet on more than one occasion did not flush, we were consistently opening the lid and repositioning the lever. At one point the chain came off completely and luckily, as we were leaving the room we were able to ask a maintence to help fix it. Our 2nd most impactful experience was when we were at dinner at the steakhouse, the first A la Carte restaurant that we went to. When we arrived we were not given water nor asked about drinks, but were given the wine menu. When a member of our party asked if it was included we were told "no, room charge." When we said no wine we were scoffed at and given a dirty look which the man turned around and walked away. My husband and I were so very embarrassed and in awe. The other couples that were with us were upset as well. I have never had a poor experience in the Dominican republic and due to that incidence would out of all the resorts I've stayed at would rate this the lowest. I will not be staying with this resort again. Why would I want to be a guest at a place that makes me feel like a burden. The common complaint is that there aren't enough chairs. There are, however you have to be out before 9am to get a spot. And although they have signs saying no reserving and towels will be removed, towels and shirts sat on chairs overnight and though rain and but were not removed by 8:30am. When chairs did not have any owners come from 8:30am-3:30pm the items and towels were still left on the chairs for the next day. We would like to give recognition where recognition is due. We did had a great experience at the breakfast buffet every morning with Bernardo. He reserved our table andalways made sure we had enough coffee, water and mimsoas. He was super friendly and kind. At the Italian we had Leonardo who right away asked us what drinks we wanted and never let our glasses go empty. Made our second night at the A La Carte resturaunt a fun and pleasant one. This was continued by our final night adn third reservation, at the Tex-Mex with Merlin. He was funny and kept us entertained as well as always keeping our drinks full, espeically out water, which was a bit of a running joke, until he finally just left us with the pitcher. He called us by names, Princessa, Commander, Reigna etc, and these names made us feel not like burdens, but more like friends. So thank you for helping making our vacation better. These staff deserve recognition, however the rest of the staff may need a lesson in guest service, and treating a customer with curtosey and not disdain.

Resort Update
Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts has informed us that their Punta Cana complex will undergo improvement projects beginning on July 1, 2019 and continue through late 2019. Included in this project is a complete transformation of the Las Olas I and Las Olas II beach restaurants. Work will be done from July 1-December 15, 2019 between the hours of 8am and 8pm. The services (snacks and drinks) will continue as usual but from the Piscis restaurant and other stations placed around the main pool and beach area. The rooms closest to the area in Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana, Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro, and Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar will be blocked during this time to minimize guest disturbance. Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana will also receive a complete makeover for the lobby bar terrace. This will take place August 20-November 30, 2019. Due to the location of the work, no disturbance to guest rooms is expected and all services will continue as usual at the lobby bar.
