A little disappointed

First I just want to say this is soley my opinion on my observation and experience at this resort. This is a beautiful resort, grounds well manicured, very clean. Villas very nice but bathrooms could use some updating. Food was mediocre at most, if you are a person that would like to have an adult beverage you are going to wait until 10:00am when the bars open. Pool doesn't open till 9. Everything seems to run late at this resort. This resort has to employ many but I really didn't see more then maybe a handful that look or acted like they liked their job. They truly did gravitate towards customers that spoke the language. Make sure you take bug spray if you visit, you will need it in the evening. Once again this is a beautiful resort and even with a language barrier and less then exceptional service it was my vacation and I made the best of it.

Poor service

vacation family. The rooms as the pictures, spacious and good accommodation, the cleaning on the room in general was not that good. And the Staff were not very polite. The food options in the poll restaurant were pretty limited each day and also in the buffet. The cleaning was not that good in general, tha maintain de of The hotel and restaurants were seem old and not very well maintained we found popo I’m the pool and early in the morning in the restaurants for The beach you can found cockroaches not very pleasant to seee. The attention of in the staff in general was poor. The beach is beautiful and not very crowded, so it’s family friendly especially when you travel with small kids, the transportation across the complex is pretty good and fun. The shows were good at the bar in the reception, but it was difficult to get a drink with the staff.

Did not like it!

Facts: - Service was slow and service personnel were rude and unhelpful most of the time. The only exception was the personnel in the italian restaurant that was super nice. - For all the services you have to tip otherwise they will look bad at you and continue to be rude - Pools were not very clean and you could clearly see back-splash tiles missing. We had an specific incident were my sister saw poop inside the pool and we call the lifeguards to alert them because they were not even noticing or looking into the pool, they were on the side of the pool participating in the pool activities - Room comfort: rooms were not very clean, they were outdated and lack maintenance. We had issues we the air conditioning that was never solve and with the bathtub as well. - Dining options: very limited and the food was the same that you could find in the buffet but label differently - Cleaning: in general the installations look dirty, specially the pool bars and beach bars and restaurants. My sister actually saw cockroaches coming from the back of the kitchen one morning. I will not be going back to this hotel and probably will not be using cheap caribbean again after this experience

Really good resort (just a step under great)

Just returned from our stay at Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro. An amazing trip and this is a good, just maybe not great, resort to stay at while in Punta Cana. One of the many all inclusive resorts in PC, this particular resort is actually a group of seven different 'level' resorts that share some restaurants and amenities. Pretty easy to see which resort you are in, as well as being identified by staff with wristbands. The different level resorts offer different restaurants (in addition to sharing a few of the specialty restaurants), and appeared possibly different amounts (bigger glasses) and types of liquor. CONS OCEAN VIEWS It looks like all the rooms are pretty much the same in layout (but with either two queens or one king), with none that really face the ocean. A few balconies in some of the villas close to the water can possibly see the water, but not many from what it looks like. IN ROOM FRIDGE We had medicine that needed to be kept cold, and noticed on day one the refrigerator was room temp. Went to desk to advise/get repaired. First told 'refrigerator is not a freezer' (which I didn't say or expect it to be), but they wrote down my room number (on the back of a brochure) and said they would send maintenance to look at it. That never happened (even after a call was made to concierge to tell them the same). All drinks were always room temp (if not warmer). We would get buckets of ice to keep meds cold. When fridge was not restocked (of warm beers or water), when we called for replacements, warm ones were sent. CABANAS/CHAIR ACCESS Signs clearly posted on all cabanas (at beach and at pools) that they do NOT allow people to reserve spots. Unfortunately no one enforces these rules at all, and many seem to get up at 0600, reserve spots, then don't come down to use those spots until 1000-1100. This results in a lot of unused spots, with people wandering around to find one. We got to the beach one morning at 0730 thinking we would beat the rush, but ALL chairs were covered in towels....with only a handful of people in sight. You could get other chairs and drag them a short distance to a nice sunny spot, but you can forget about a thatched canopy (or enforcement) due to lack of adherence to this 'policy.' ALCOHOL It's an all-inclusive, so don't expect great liquors. Honestly the tequila was horrible (as a shot), but didn't stop us. Blended drinks were slightly better. check bars for hours (most bars unless right by the lobby closed at 530). The pool bars (which all close at 530) would often run out of liquor (didn't make sense...there is plenty on site)...one time it was just after 5pm and they were out of everything but gin and presidente (the only beer offered as all-in). Bring your own Yeti or similar or be stuck with their tiny 10oz cups. If you don't, you can also find beach vendors selling, or at the shop area in front of the resort. ENTERTAINMENT Live music/dancers were great. Performing nightly on the resort as well as in the "Village" (large common area shared by all seven resorts). Pretty much all the salsa, bachata, etc you could want for. Disco at the Village opened at 1130, and would get hot and crowded (but we had a great time). Other 'theater' type entertainment we only saw one night. It was trivia, and if you didn't speak Spanish, you would really struggle as that's what the host primarily spoke. Cool with that as we're in the DR, but just as a note. PROS FOOD Buffett dinners/lunches very easy to access, and never felt overly crowded. Only negative is in the main dining room, tables did not get bussed/reset frequently. One night we arrived around 730pm, and wandered around for 10 minutes before someone helped seat us at a table (that still had a couple of dishes, and was not clean). No one came to clean the table, and we sat there with no silver and at a dirty table. Theme changes daily (different types of food), with some items there daily (caution on the Dorado fish...one style has bones). Always burgers, pizza, etc for the kiddos. Plenty of deserts, also. Specialty restaurant reservations are allotted based on the number of night you stay. We stayed five, so were allowed two reservations. We had the Japanese (Mikado) and the Mediterranean (Pescadaro). These were probably two of our favorite meals. Good fresh sushi and what was basically stir fry (she had chicken/shrimp, I had steak/chicken). Options were limited at Mikado, but tasty. Service started slowly, but improved. Pescadero had a wider variety of food, and a seafood buffet that essentially came with all chose entrees. a TON of food. The crab legs/claws on the buffet were kind of a waste, as there were no crab crackers to effectively get to the meat, and there was neither butter sauce nor cocktail sauce (for shrimp) either on the bar or on request. Kinda odd...but the food was still tasty. PEOPLE Just about everyone was very friendly, offering a smile and an Hola whenever we were walking around. Some of the bartenders were a little more surly/unresponsive, but hard when they're basically working for no tips (we and others were tipping at times), but not everyone did this all the time. Hoping being at an all-in their wages compensated, but unsure. Felix was GREAT at the front desk. Super friendly, always smiling and always seemed to be there. They did stumble a bit as we stopped by desk to ask for late checkout night before we were leaving (on phone were told we would have to go to desk). Then told we needed to stop by the AM we were leaving. we did that...and then were told 'manager not here right now, come back in an hour.' We had already stopped by there twice, and weren't going to spend another 30 minutes going to/from desk in HOPES that someone would be there to help...especially not on our last day there. Checkout (room key deactivated) is at noon, so we decided to get to our room about 1145 to finish packing. Phone was ringing at 1207...'You checking out yet?' Said they would send a cart, no one showed up after waiting for 15 minutes. Fortunately one of the VIP carts was heading to lobby and gave us a lift. CLEANLINESS Resort and room were always very clean. Our room was turned daily, and there were constantly people moving around the resort cleaning up the common areas. Trash rarely noticed, and the landscaping was immaculate. One day there was bad seaweed on the beach, but the crews were always there with rakes, cleaning it up and scooping it away. Water is not crystal clear due to the side of the island PC is on, in combination with the silty (but very smooth) sand and seaweed. Don't plan on snorkeling at this resort. SHUTTLES This IS a big resort, but there were always shuttles going to and from all areas. We walked when we felt like it, shuttled when we didn't. Great to have the shuttles if you were packing a lot of stuff to/from the beach, or were just worn out from the all day activities. Overall we had a great time. the weather there is amazing (about 85 year round), the people were mostly very friendly, and we enjoyed our stay. Great to meet so many from other countries (felt like Americans made up about 10-15% of the people there, mostly French and Hispanic), and experience the DR inside and outside of the resort. We would likely not visit this location again just because we enjoy seeing other places in the world, and rarely revisit locations due to this (so no reflection on this resort at all). A few small details that could be cleaned up (fridge, liquors, late check outs) that would make this five star, but overall extremely enjoyable and would recommend

Resort Update
Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts has informed us that their Punta Cana complex will undergo improvement projects beginning on July 1, 2019 and continue through late 2019. Included in this project is a complete transformation of the Las Olas I and Las Olas II beach restaurants. Work will be done from July 1-December 15, 2019 between the hours of 8am and 8pm. The services (snacks and drinks) will continue as usual but from the Piscis restaurant and other stations placed around the main pool and beach area. The rooms closest to the area in Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana, Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro, and Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar will be blocked during this time to minimize guest disturbance. Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana will also receive a complete makeover for the lobby bar terrace. This will take place August 20-November 30, 2019. Due to the location of the work, no disturbance to guest rooms is expected and all services will continue as usual at the lobby bar.
