Satisfied

The Grand Bahia Principe Aquamarine was very nice. Staff was very attentive and eager to please. The resort was clean and easy to navigate around. The room I stayed in was spacious and clean. The buffet was actually rather good. I was satisfied with the ease of checking in and out of the resort. I would definitely stay there again and recommend to others.

Not All Inclusive

We arrived at 2:35 PM. Made to wait until 3:00 PM to check in. We paid for a resort view room. Given a view of the loading dock where all the employees wait for the school buses to pick them up or bring them to the resort. All hours of the day and night repair noise is heard. The resort claimed they had no resort rooms Inclusive? My drink is not included. It is on a list that one needs to pay for. I was told I didn't have to pay for it at dinner. But it was the imitation. So much for inclusive. No security at the pool or beach. Watch your belongings! Things disappeared regularly. One needs to make a reservation at the restaurants. Even though they are not full, you can't get a seat and need to eat dinner at the buffet. Wine at the dinner was very poor. If you want decent wine, you need to bua bottle.

Not so Good Experience

- The workers at the resort are aggressive trying to earn tips. If you don't tip them, they will walk right by you next time. - We had to wait over an hour for our room to be ready upon arrival. - When we went to make reservations at all the 8 (Advertised Restaurants) for the week, we were told they were not available. The only reservations we could get were at 10:00 PM at two of the restaurants. On our last night, we went to one of the nice restaurants that was supposedly booked and they let us come right in and there were over 25 empty tables. - We booked an all day excursion through AMSTAR. We were told it was close to our resort. We were told to be at the front at 07:15 for a 07:30 Departure. The driver showed up at 08:15, the bus ride was 50 minutes (NOT Close), and when we got to the place (Escape Park), it took over 1 hour to get checked in. Almost three hours before we even got in the park. When our day was done, a guest paid one of the drivers to take him and his family back to their resort first vs. going back to the park. We had to ride 30 minutes in the opposite direction to take his family back then go back to the park. The only thing about the excursion we enjoyed was the snorkeling but they only let us do it for 25 minutes. - My wife and I both got sick while we were there and stayed sick for 7 days. Bacterial stomach issues! - I paid for an AMSTAR driver to pick us up and take us to and from the airport. He did not show up to pick us up on our date of departure so we had to call a taxi and almost missed our flight. Had to pay the taxi driver and additional $50.00. Cheap Carribean decided they would give me a $24.00 credit which is less than half of what I paid (Not counting the additional $50.00 i had to pay). - NOT A RELAXING VACATION.

Great Vacation

Before going on this vacation, I was a little worried based on the reviews, but was going for college spring break with two of my friends, so we needed somewhere fairly affordable. We are all pretty low maintenance, so we figured we could make the best of it, but this hotel exceeded all of our expectations. The staff were very friendly and escorted us to our room. We thought the food was better than expected for an all-inclusive buffet. The drinks at the pool and beach were very nothing fancy, but were very refreshing, which is what we needed. We had read some reviews about poor service from the maids, so we tipped every day and received wonderful service. Our beds were always nicely made up, the floors were clean, the bathroom had been cleaned and we always had fresh towels. The beach could be a little bit crowded, but the pool in our hotel was lovely and never had too many people around. If you're in college and looking for a wild spring break, the Aquamarine is not the place for it (I'm not sure about the other hotels in the resort), but we weren't looking for that so we had a great time relaxing and hanging out at the beach and pool. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the Dominican Republic.
