Experience

It was not at all what I thought it was going to be. The servers were great. There was nothing luxurious about the rooms, the shower had a broken handle, the lre was caulk everywhere in the bathroom, the paint was chipped everywhere, the morrow was chipped, the room was clean but was from 20 years ago. Half of the restaurants were closed everyday so you weren't able to go to the better ones. the hotel was supposed to give us a breakfast in bed which never showed up so it was overall a very disappointing trip being my honeymoon.

Much needed getaway

My wife and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary by going to Dreams Punta Cana Spa and Resort. It was an amazing experience. The staff was wonderful. Plenty of entertainment. And the food was delicious to our liking. Grounds were well manicured, and the pool and beach were beautiful. The only real negative for my wife and I was the room. It is outdated. We found out that Dreams is one of the oldest resorts that is in Punta Cana (20 years old). You can really see the age of the facility in the quality of the room. We slept great in said rooms, just would have like for it to be a little more modern. Outside of that, we had a phenomenal time. Wilson, the head chef, made us a Dominican cuisine just for my wife and I all because we asked. We would definitely come back and visit again.

Dirty room, lazy staff, bland food

Had a totally lame experience here. Our room had AC that we couldn’t change the settings on, dirty curtains, weird stains on the bathroom wall. One of the beds tilted to one side. There weren’t great outlet placements in the room to charge phone without unplugging the lamps. The staff is friendly but lazy. Won’t go out of their way for any reason. One towel stand didn’t have any towels and the man attending the stand made no effort to let us know when he’d have more towels or offer to get more towels. The food is bland, and there are NO vegan options except at the buffet, and there it is mostly salad. The chef at the buffet had no idea what was in the different dishes and made no attempt to find out. The restaurants were terrible except, surprisingly, the Japanese one. But it was still flavorless and bland.

So much fun!

The resort staff deserves 5 stars for super friendly service. The huge pool is amazing. Wether you want party and musik and decide to stay at the beach bar area, or you prefer peace and quiet and stay closer to the main area, the pool offers a place for everyone. There are turtles, fish ponds and flamingos, the kids love that. The explorers club takes your kids almost all day and entertains them in case you are not in the mood for it. The core zone offers plenty of games for the whole family, ping pong, pool, foosball, chess, you name it. A group of gardeners deserves 5 stars too, for maintaining the greens better than the English their lawns. It would be great, though, if they used more rakes instead of these noisy leaf blowers. The beach gets cleaned of sea weed several times daily if necessary. The shows every night are very entertaining. If you want to stay in your room, they offer plenty of TV Programs and the wifi is excellent, we could stream Netflix. If you like to see brides in pretty gowns, there were one or two weddings a day. On the beach, in the park, on the terrace, very pretty. They even have an office with a wedding planner. The spa is nice, but in my opinion overpriced. A massage costs more than in NY, about the same amount as a cleaning lady in the hotel makes in one week. There a photographers who take pictures. One picture cost 20$ in Nov. 2019, either as a print or in an e-mail. Nowadays everybody has great cell phone cameras, so I did not see many people purchasing pictures for obvious reasons. Once a week they have vendors in the resort, trying to sell you metal fashion jewelry, some with their famous larimar stones, for prices way above what you pay New York street vendors. They also offer paintings, cigars etc. People bought very little. As to the food, the restaurants are better than the buffet, and you don't need a reservation. The main buffet is okay, it offers more food on weekends than during the week. If you like it fancy, you can walk over to the Now Onyx, their sister hotel, and eat there, that buffet is totally amazing. The rooms are fairly large. We upgraded to a room with direct pool access. You walk out of your terrance and can jump in the pool. There are two things I was not happy about, however, they would not stop me from coming back. First, on weekends Dominican families come to the resort on day passes. That is okay, after all you can't come to their country to vacation and then ban them from their own resorts. However, the rules for the pool are that you can't swim in your clothes. For some reason, these people keep their clothes on in the pool, swimming around in shorts and t-shirts. Many guests found that unsanitary. The rule about the swim clothes should be enforced. The second thing is the mold problem in the rooms. The rooms smell like mold, water drips from the AC onto the floor, making it wet and slippery (we always put towels on the floor). Our backpack was covered on mold after sitting under the desk for a week. I believe there is little than could be done about that, it is just because of the humid weather. We kept our terrace door open a lot to air out the room, but I could see that this is a problem for people with allergies.

What's to Love

The refreshing champagne and chilly towels that welcome you into beach bliss.

As of June 2018 you can bring your furry friend along!

The massive, aahh-mazing pool that stretches from the lobby to the beach.

The 1,643-square foot on-site casino. Lady luck is waiting.

The Deluxe Swim-Out room. You'll feel like royalty, or a rock star. (Or a royal rock star.)

The flamingos, peacocks, parrots, turtles and more - it's like a tropical zoo.

Explorer's club (kids 3-12) with everything from sand castle contests to Plant a Tree & Corn Harvest Project.

Red Cross certified staff supervise the aforementioned club. A relief, right?

Parents get a pager from the Explorer's club, should they be needed for anything.

Chilling in the spa's Zen garden after the Tropical Oasis Body Wrap.

The FREE windsurfing and sailing lessons. (Gotta love free.)

Seaside dining with only the stars and candles to light your night. (There's a fee, but go for it).

What We'd Change

You'll want to keep an eye on the schedule for the restaurants, but there are so many options your taste buds will rejoice in their around-the-world tour.

Why You Should Go

It's 40-minute drive from the airport, but you can relax - you're already in earth-heaven.

Upgrade to the Preferred Club, get a private lounge & beach, and much more.

Browse the Dominican market with fine handicrafts, hand-made jewelry and more.

For some "you time," there's yoga/stretching and aerobics.

Our world-class golf courses are near. The concierge can hook you up.

Saddle up and go horseback riding. It costs, but it's magical.

Get starry-eyed with the Stargazing Rock 'n Roll party and movies under the stars on the beach.

Tennis (and clinics) are here - nothing like hitting the court under the palms.

Head to the baseball cage for some family throwing and bonding time.

Play Mexican Bingo and after you win, hit the water cycles.

The ocean trampoline is a fav among the kiddos.
