Amazing Trip!!!

We had an amazing time. We upgraded our room when we got there to a suit that had a pool attached. This was worth the extra money and where we spent a lot of our time. Everything thing was a short walk a way from our room. We had access to both sides of the resort but tended to stay on our side other then to eat. That staff was fantastic and very helpful and friendly. The only negative is the ocean had a lot of seaweed and rocks. Know when booking that this is a quiet resort. There is not a lot of night life going on. We waited to book our excursion when we got to the resort. We choose to do the reef exploration, which allowed you to snorkel with sharks, sting rays, and around the coral reefs. You could also paddle board, kayak, included a massage.

Needs updating

We have stayed at several Catalonia Resorts, including this one. Pros: Beautiful beach that they cleaned daily to decrease the sargassum / seaweed. Resort landscaping well maintained. Beautiful pools. Majority of staff were friendly. Easy check in / out. The steakhouse, Italian, and seaside restaurants were very good. Adult beach quiet and relaxing. Water at the beach is shallow and allows those who are not strong swimmers to snorkel. Cons: Buffet food was quite bland. Room had stains in the shower and on the ceiling above the bed. Toilet seat did not fit the toilet correctly so every time you sat down, you sat on the rim of the bowl. No hammock on the balcony. Intermittent delivery of towels and wash cloths. Occasional smell of sewage. The beach runner who asks if you are having any problems with your stay does not follow through. If you leave your beach loungers to go to breakfast, the staff remove your towels as they assume you are reserving loungers which is not permitted. The resort rooms definitely need updating. It is not at the level that Catalonia Resorts normally are kept. Overall we had a very relaxing vacation as we spent most of our day lying on the beach and reading. We would return to this resort, but I hope they update the rooms soon.

This was our first time at an all inclusive. The pools and beach are amazing as are the drinks. Food was average, nothing special or great about it. The casino was disappointing. The room air conditioning was hardly functioning. We called a couple times about it but just realized that that was just going to be how the air was. They did supply us with a fan though which helped. Overall, the beach, pools and bar makes up for it all. I would recommend staying here

Catalonia Royal

Let me start off by saying my spouse and I look for adults only, all inclusive, small/boutique resorts. We chose this as it met most of those options. When we arrived very late after a full day of flying, we were checked in, but the room looked nothing like the one I booked. We tried to go back to the front desk and request room change, but were told it was too late "to do anything about it", but to come back in the morning at 9am- what we determined the meeting would be, was a sales pitch to move to a more expensive room/time share thing. Needless to say, we did not go and stayed in the room I didn't book the entire time. The room was not updated, and bathroom was poorly designed, no privacy, large tub, tiny shower, and one of the sinks was plugged. And it smelled very musty. The staff: overall a grumpy crew, but with a few standouts. The lady hostesses at sea blue, the ladies at the bars were friendly. Meals: although there were many restaurants, the options were limited. We love spicy food, and there was not any to be had. Overall, the food was bland and disappointing, compared to many of the other resorts we have stayed at. At all of the restaurants, we felt very rushed, staff taking your plates before you put your fork down. Beach: The beach was nice. We didnt have a problem finding a beach chair. The major problem was smoking all over the resort, including on the beach. Yuck! Smelled smoke the entire time. Entertainment: We are not big entertqinment/show people, but they have a wonderful violinist down by the main pool in the evenings that you should listen to one night. We make the most of everything, so enjoyed urself overall. We will not be returning to this resort, and probably not to the DR as it just did not compare to other places we have traveled.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive Dominican dream escape.

Chillaxing at the infinity pool with shaded, cushy loungers & hammocks on the beach.

The self-serve Bloody Marys and mimosas at breakfast.

Escaping via the spa: massages by the sea, Turkish baths and sauna.

What We'd Change

Casino Punta Cana closes at midnight, but the resort's club, Cats, and the bar by the pool are both open late for night owls.

Why You Should Go

It's 20 miles from the Punta Cana airport. Vacay cocktails will appear pronto.

Two gorgeous golf courses designed by Alberto Sola are near.

If you're up for meeting up with Lady Luck, there's a casino onsite.

Soana Island is an aahmazing excursion and is relatively near. So worth it.
