Lots of Empty Promises

This is my second trip to Lifestyles and probably my last. Most of the restaurants were closed. The food in the restaurant was almost the same as what was found at the buffet. Perhaps they went cheap because we went during the off season. The icing on the cake is when they cancelled the banquet due to the weather when it was clear skies and a perfect night. Again, it seemed they wanted to cut cost due to the off-peak season.

Worst Vacation Ever

Please read before you book this resort. I am not one to complain, and as it is it has taken me almost 6 months to write this review because I work very hard for my money, and put my family and our time together first. That being said I know I had to write this because I do NOT want anyone else to have the experience that me and my family had. I would like to start out that my fiancé and I have used Cheap Caribbean in the past to book our vacations, both together and separately, and combined to have book 5 trips in the past 2.5 years, and 3 in the last 12 months. Every other time has been fantastic, but this trip was a nightmare. In the first 24 hours we had to have our room changed 3 times. We booked two rooms for the 5 of us, and the initial rooms we walked into initially were disgusting. The mirror had paint splatter all over it, the lights were falling out of the ceiling, there was hair on the floor, the toilet was broken, the sink looked horrendous, the shower was not one I would ever step foot in, let alone with shoes on. If this was supposed to be a "clean room" for a new guest to stay in, we were terrified what our trip was to be like. We did not even start to unpack, we told the nice employee helping us with our luggage that there is no way we are staying in this room, and immediately called the front desk. They said they apologize and would try to get us another two rooms. I quickly called cheap Caribbean's international help line and they said they would call us back within an hour. After an hour of not getting a call back, we call Cheap Caribbean who said they spoke to the hotel and they said they were working on getting us new rooms, but if we wanted to change resorts we could do that, but it would take 24 hours. We said, all we wanted to do was have a clean room to stay. While we waited to hear back from the hotel, I told my fiancé and the kids to head to the buffet and grab some food and drinks, as we were all hungry after the over hour shuttle ride (which was advertised as 20 minutes) and now waiting for a room change. My family returned shortly with disappointed looks on their faces, saying the buffet was closed, and would not be opening for another hour. It was 5:30!!! I again called the front desk to ask if there was any place to get food now, and they said not at the resort we were staying at, but at our sister resort Cofresi they could get a shuttle and eat at their buffet. I said "you mean to tell me at 5:30, NORMAL dinner time, unless you have a reservation at a resort, (which you have to make at 11:00am the morning of or the day before), you have no where to get food?" I was told yes, there is no where to get food at this time unless we took the shuttle, which my family didn't want to do at that time because they wanted to be close when our room was available. Finally our second set of rooms became available, but they were both rooms with king size beds. Our two sons and our eldest sons girlfriend were to share the other room, but there was only one bed. They offered to bring a pull-away bed for our youngest son, but after spending what we spend for our 4 night vacation, we were not going to let our son stay on a pull-away bed for the 4 nights. They said that is all they had until the next morning, and Cheap Caribbean couldn't get us to another resort until the next day, so we could stay in this room or our previous room. We decided since we were exhausted and wanted to just get down to the beach and get some food, that we would stay here, but would need to be moved in the morning. In this room the showers were horrible, they sprayed water, but not on you, it actually flooded the bathroom but it was difficult to wash the soap off. And there is no way we would stand in the shower without sandals, and again, the toiled seat was falling off. But the room smelled more clean and looked a little better. The furniture was still very outdated and beaten up, more hair was found throughout the room, but we were too exhausted and knew we would again move in the morning. We finally got to the buffet which was horrible. Having gone to all-inclusive's before we had some level of expectation, but this was so disappointing. Birds were flying in and out of the venue, and they were eating off the food displays, and pooping around the tables. And workers were just walking by and acting like this was ok. There was not place to get water yourself, yes other drinks were available (warm juice, no ice, slightly chilled milk, soda with no ice), but something as simple as water you needed a server to bring to you. We sat at a table and waited, but no one came over to us. They were all huddled in a circle socializing, not serving any tables. So I walked over to one of the staff to ask for water and silverware for our table and they all look annoyed as though I was bothering them. In Mexico this would never happen. After disappointing meal we wanted to go down to the beach, but that closes at 7, and the pool we went to go to had debride and cigarettes floating in it. In fact the more we walked around, the more we saw how dirty the resort was as a whole. We all just decided to go back to room, and just wait till tomorrow. The drinks that both me and my fiancé got were disgusting and throughout the entire trip we were not happy with the selection at all. The next day we got moved to the Cofresi resort, which was actually a beautiful room, but we had already lost one day of our 4 night vacation. And even though the rooms were more up to date and clean, the shower stopped working on day 3, the AC went out in our kids room, and they had power outage issues. Also the Pearl buffet which they advertised as the "largest international buffet in the Caribbean" every time we turned on the TV in the room, was closed the entire trip. On the door was posted a sign that said " For Our convenience the Pearl International Buffet is closed". Yes that is not a typo, that is what it said, for the resorts convenience the buffet was closed. Well we were happy they were not inconvenienced at all... The beach is horrible, being almost non-existent and rocky. They do have a nice place for you to lay in the sun in the VIP "beach" area, but it is above the water and you have to walk down a large set of stairs to get down there. In the VIP beach area they have what they consider "premium drinks" not available at the other bars in the resort, but these drinks were just average spirits and not anything I would consider premium. The regular drinks were all low end and not something I was able to finish much on the trip. At this resort they try to push you to become a VIP member (i.e. buy a time share) which opens you up to a much different experience at the resort. Supposedly you can get multi-room villas, a personal chef, and your villa stocked with all your own premium liquor, and food choices, but this was obviously not a package we would ever consider given the poor level of service we had already experience. Also they advertise 10 restaurants, yet for our stay the only ones available to us were the Mexican, Italian, and Brazilian restaurants. 3 out of ten, even when trying to book a couple days in advance. The Brazilian restaurant was horrible, but I will say the Mexican and Italian were not bad, our favorite was the Mexican cuisine. Also everyday they sent someone to our room to try to have us sign a disclosure to not say anything bad about the resort since they moved our room. We refused every time and at one point they threatened to move us back to the original room. Please beware, this place is not at all advertised.
