a bit let down

This is supposed to be a 4 star resort but it disappointed. The buildings and grounds are great. The food is good. We did not have to get in line early to sign up for the restaurants for that evening (except for the Hibachi grill because of its show). We just showed up at 6:30 and always got in right away. No wrist bands are handed out either. The dissapointing aspect of our stay is the beach area. The water is great but it is so crowded on the beach sand that it is difficult to navigate through the beach chairs. Very few trees to provide any shade and those areas are even more crowded. People stake out the chairs early by putting their towels down but I think more than half are abandoned for most of the day. No one from management watches this so we could not get on the beach sand mid to late morning. A lot of guests leave their towels and empty drink glasses laying around. The staff should at least be picking up the garbage and abandoned towels fairly regularly throughout the day. The beach area looks bad by the end of the day. Half of the beach frontage is for "preferred members" only and those spots are just as crowded as the "poor" section.

Very nice

While the overall experience is quite good, I would like to make a remark on the way the business is being conducted . There is a big area on the beach which is fenced and accessible to those who are willing to pay more... It is the best part of the beach with bigger umbrella’s, etc. They created a special club and they offer you to pay extra $70 a day to access this elite area. I see each as unfair business and don’t agree with this. The public area on the beach has a very limited number of umbrellas and contrary to the area for which you have to pay extra.

Very nice vacation

We ended up at Dreams Dominicus because our original reservation was for a resort that was going to change ownership/management during our stay. So, Dreams Dominicus wasn't our first choice. We initially booked at Dreams La Romana because it had an "adults only" area. Dreams Dominicus doesn't have any such areas. That being said, the grounds are lovely and the people/staff are wonderful. We ended up in one of their swim-out suites and rarely left our private pool area. I would definitely stay in one of those suites again...VERY comfortable!! I would rate the beach area as OK. The resort is long and narrow with not much beach frontage. What you have is lots of people crammed into a relatively small space. We would walk down to the beach and float around in the ocean for a while. But, we never planned to spend extended time down there. Just too crowded and noisy. If your into loud music, beach volley ball and that kind of scene, you'd probably love it. Also, the beach is pretty steep to get down to the water. You have to be fairly agile to climb back out of the water and onto the flat part of the beach. The food is also OK. I've never cruised, but imagine the buffets/restaurants as being on par with a cruise experience. For breakfast, I'd skip the steam tables and have something made to order at the omelette or crepe station. Either of those with some fresh fruit and coffee became out go-to's. Lunch was typically room service at our private pool. Our best dinners were at the Bordeaux...thanks Eddy for the memorable experiences both nights we visited with you. O-H I'd skip the teppanyaki (where they cook at your table) at the Asian place and the Italian place altogether. Both were mediocre. I'm still not sure what the Preferred Club afforded us. It seemed like those areas restricted to Preferred Club visitors were not monitored and we came/went without ever having to identify ourselves. And, the World Cafe was much better for breakfast than the Flying Fish (Preferred Club) If you get the $200.00 in "resort coupons", you'll have to spend an additional $500.00-600.00 out of pocket to redeem them. It's not like you get $200.00 to spend. Beware that you'll be asked to participate in a 90-120 min sales presentation for their vacation club. We got suckered into this and wasted two hours of our precious vacation time, never using the spa certificates we received for participating. Most of the spa experiences were considerably more than the certificates and would have resulted in additional cost. Once again, we didn't want to spend precious vacation time indoors nor additional dollars. I'm focusing on those aspects that didn't quite meet our expectations so other travelers might benefit from that feedback. All that being said, the country and people we met were simply wonderful. They greeted us warmly and consistently asked us if we needed anything. I would say we would return albeit to an adults-only resort, which is what we initially booked.

Decent

The resort is tiny compared to others around it. The resort itself is nice and new but crammed. The beach is tiny and you're on top of one another with not enough umbrellas. The beach is sloped in spots where they could fix it. The entrance to the water is angled pretty well which makes beach walks harder but it's the same on other resorts as well. Biggest complaint is the staff constantly bothering you with spa and timeshare sales pitches. The staff came running up behind us several times to ask about spa and timeshare crap. It's rude and horrible that you get this in the resort. I expect soliciting on the beach but that didn't happen here. Only in the resort where you think you should be free of that tactic. Overall for our deal we enjoyed it. But I would never choose this resort again because of the size of the beach and the constant sales pitches
