Dream Dominicus: Fluency in Spanish is essential..

3 women 4 night 5 day Preferred level stay at Dreams Dominicus in La Romana We flew into the Santa Domingo airport, we were promptly met at the airport for our transfer to the resort. 1 hour 15 minute transfer which we expected. Upon arrival at the resort, we checked in and were instructed to wait while they readied our room. I went to the bathroom and discovered the Preferred club room with food and drinks. Since we were hungry after a day of travel I asked if we could wait in there rather than at the reception desk. It wasn’t initially offered to us. When we were finally taken to our room (45 minutes later) we realized that one of us would need to sleep on a pull-out sofa or 3 of us would need to squeeze into the King bed. We asked to either upgrade or down grade from our suite accommodations that was listed as appropriate for 3 adults. Initially we were told the resort was fully booked, then with persistence we were shown an upgraded option for an additional cost or down grade. I was told that the down grade option was a difference of $50 per night by our assigned butler after he spoke in Spanish to a manager by phone. We opted to down grade. At this point we had been at the resort for 3.5 hours. We were hot as we hadn’t settled into a room yet and didn’t change, we are tired, and still hungry. I was told we would need to then go back to reception on the other side of the resort to fill out a form for the down grade. I was initially given a form about sustaining an injury . I refused the form, the reception clerk said it was the wrong form and they would bring the correct form to our room. They brought the form to our room for signature which I signed. I discussed that the butler told me I would be reimbursed the difference in cost with the person who brought the form. Once settles in our room and unpacking we realized there was sand in our drawers that hadn’t been cleaned properly. Housekeeping came and cleaned out the drawers but I had great difficulty in explaining the concern due to the language barrier. Positives: The resort was quiet, clearly not at max capacity. The grounds are beautiful, the food was excellent, and the spa treatments were phenomenal. The language is predominately Spanish which made it difficult to communicate with waitstaff, housekeeping, and management, this should be noted on the Cheap Caribbean website so customers who don’t speak Spanish could opt for staying at the Dreams La Romana instead. On our last day, I asked to speak with a manager to inquire about the promised refund for the down grade in room category. We were presented with an invoice of charges in Spanish and paso currency and told the manager was in a meeting. The manager was unavailable and in a meeting on our 1st night as well. I insisted on speaking to a manager. I was eventually told by the manager who spoke perfect English that the form that I signed on our 1st night was my voluntary agreement to down grade and that no compensation would be issued as it was my choice. The women that I spoke with on our 1st night and our assigned butler were both present during our checkout. I asked our butler about the figures he wrote on a piece of paper showing a $50 dollar difference in price and that he said I would in fact be reimbursed that amount after he spoke to a manager. I also asked the women who I spoke to who had me sign the form on our 1st night about our discussion of the monetary compensation before I signed the form. She informed me that she told me she would send champagne to our room but did not tell me I would be given a monetary reimbursement. I will never return to this resort. I felt lied to and manipulated. I had previously stayed at the Dreams La Romana and had an amazing experience which is why I chose another Dreams resort thinking the experience would be the same. The staff spoke at Dreams La Romana speak English, the room and resort was exceptionally clean, and the check in and Check out process was expedited. Dreams Dominicus pales in comparison and I will not return or recommend this resort. I travel extensively and have never encountered such treatment. I was significantly disappointed by the entire experience.

Horrible Experience

Dreams Dominicus not to be confused with Dreams La Romana which is an exceptional resort. Dreams Dominicus was a total disappointment this is my second time staying in a Dreams Resort and this one is ruining the brand. To start off we payed for the preferred upgrade and it was a complete waste of money the preferred option is not recommend in this resort the preferred club is 0.5 miles from the beach and the transportation that they provide takes years to get to the preferred club because they only have two golf carts. Also I had to request the minibar upgrade and the turndown service for my room which is something that should be done with out any quiestions this took 4 days and over 5 calls to the front desk to get it done, after all that the room keep up and the turndown service was mediocre to say the least. There's is zero pool or beach service no one comes to ask if you need something to drink you have to chase them down at the beach, at the relax and preferred pool is just one bartender obviously that person can do everything so you have to go get your own drink unlike the other seems resort which serve your every needs this resort is completely under staff and mismanaged. Then is music and activities very repetitive and the music that is good or varied last for about 30 minutes on a good day, the music in the in the main pool the supposed dj would come in the morning hit play in a playlist that was the same boring song everyday and disappear for the rest of the day not a welcoming atmosphere. The food in the World Cafe that is supposed to be the staple of the resort is just pathetic same food every single day with different names same beef ribs eyes and chicken and pork nothing changed for two weeks, and then chaos hit when the hotel got a little booked there was zero plates in the buffet during dinner time and the personal was running around with out any direction only to find out the supervisor was outside the cafe on the phone, the chef of that kitchen super boring, and they rant out cheese, so no pizza or pasta that night the lines to get your food cooked where endless just a total mess. In the morning of that weekend there was one cook to do creps, omelettes, and fried eggs three different sation so one of the guest decided not to wait and started cooking their own food a total lability for the hotel. The food in the preferred club breakfast and lunch is super limited so you won't find all the stuff you normally would assume is their. In the preferred that by the beach same thing happens the bartender have supper bad attitude and the food is awful, this place is so disorganized that they rant out of BBQ ribs one day and when asked they said they could get any more when they had plenty in the buffet that's for everyone, no exclusivity at all. The dress code is ridiculous at the world Cafe you need to where a shirt with sleeves, no tank tops allowed, during lunch and breakfast when your either going to the beach or your in the pool many people are turned back and have to do the walk of shame back to their room to change. The next thing is the restaurant service is horrible the employee have bad attitude they are not very hospitable, on top of that we were given dirty cup and uncooked food. On the Dominican day celebration that they are supposed to do every week according to my butler Joan Manuel they sever they same food from every day but with a twist they put some food outside by the pool to make it harder for you to eat it, plantains, fried cheese, and salami a repetition of another day so sad. Now to talk about that butler service I got for complaining to Patricia Alvarez the manager of sales that was in charge that night, the butler service sucks not because the guys are bad but because the hotel is so understaffed that they have them doing other things like stocking the upgrade minibar, when I asked one of them to bring me icream to the beach he said that I could go get it my self at the world Cafe because he was decorating a room. That's not the service I've gotten before these guys should take some notes from Danny G at Dreams La Romana. If I didn't call the butler then they never called me to check and see if I need anything. To finalize this nightmare our bed had bed bugs and for some reason and our baby got bit in the face and the arm. Now I do want to point out one employee and that's Jose Martínez this guy's attitude and drive make this dysfunctional run he make magic and trust to show the people around him so that it get a little butter he should be running the hotel.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. If you stay here I suggest getting a room on the lower level. There are no elevators so you have to really climb a flight of stairs to get to your room if you’re on level three. Also walking from your room to the restaurants is kind of long but it was all worth it. The restaurants they had weren’t good. I stayed at the buffet because they just had better food there. The beach is beautiful BUT they had a lot of rocks so watch your step before stepping in. The pools were perfect, and the spa is worth it. The workers at the resort really made the experience in Santo Domingo worth while. What I didn’t like is that they didn’t play any music, the club was Whack, the Pool closes at 6pm. So after that they play spa music. Which was a downer. But other than that my stay there was fantastic. This resort is really for families, and older couples.
