    Sunscape stay

We went to this hotel as a dive group. We were put in the renovated building Royal Palm close to the dive shop...run by Ocean Encounters. Great dive shop and great people. The hotel is a run down property that could use some serious updating. I saw the reviews before I left, but some are accurate and some not so much. Rooms in our building were ok. Nothing fancy, but clean enough. The doors have a large space on the bottom, so no door sweep, which allows cock roaches and wind to enter the room. AC was ok. If door sealed would be much better. Our room 2122, not prime location, but was quiet. Oceanview in this building is facing the pool and entertainment area, so noise complaints. We ate at the grill for lunch and at dinner we had some good steaks there. Oceania had good salmon, and the Italian restaurant was very good! Most meals were hot, fresh and good. The buffet was just ok, ate there for breakfast only. The staff at the bar were mostly ok, one lady stood out she was always pleasant and sweet. Tip the waitresses and bar staff, plus room staff, you will be rewarded. We didn't use the bar pool or any of the pools, considering no one at the bar pool ever left to use the bathroom....yuck!! Pool water filters into all pools, so we skipped the pools. Nice lagoon beach, protected by stones against the waves. Weather was very windy and very large waves a few days that we were there, so diving was just ok. I think diving at Bonaire was much better, more to see as far as critters! Be kind, keep your expectations in check and enjoy yourself. Hyatt is in name only, not Hyatt quality.

Beautiful beach, basically no VIP/Conceriege services

View all Sunscape Curaçao Resort, Spa & Casino linebacklehman Newark, DE Sunscape beautiful view, mediocre service Review of Sunscape Curaçao Resort, Spa & Casino Reviewed today If you want to sit on a beautiful beach and are ok with mediocre service at the bars, concierge and Sun Club VIP lounge , this is the place for you. If you want to experience average or above average service, please stay at a different resort. We are in the Sun Club, the room needs updated, but otherwise it is great. The door would not close without being slammed, wifi doesn't work in our room and the AC cannot keep up with the heat. I reported these issues to the VIP concierge on our first day. These may seem minor, but wifi access is mandatory for reservation or information at the resort. A QR code is used for everything. We were told to visit the lobby to have better access to the wifi, now mind you, in the lobby there are 3 to 4 concierge sitting there along with someone in the VIP lounge. They claim that all info concerning restaurants opened or closed or entertainment is available via QR. If you tell them that the page will not load even in the lobby, they will not look up the info for you, they insist that you use the web page, even if it won't load. Very frustrating. As for the door that would not close without slamming, I had to complain at least 2 days before it was fixed. The food in the restaurants is ok, but until yesterday, day 5 of our trip, the only hot meal we had was the Japanese hibachi meal. There are 4 bars and some wine in the VIP lounge, 2 bars are supposed to hv high end alcohol for the Sun Club. One of those bars in the small bar in the sun club area, the bartender is a very nice lady, this bar closes around 5. The other bar is the Roundevous bar in the lobby, it closes before the entertainment ends for the evening. So having access to high end liquor is not always available. Last night the bartender for this bar disappeared for at least 15 minutes, leaving only 1 bar available for the entire resort. Our reservation included a free bottle of Liquor for our room. Monday when we checked, we forgot to mention this. I returned to the VIP lounge within 15 minutes to ask about the liquor and was told that since I did not mention it on check-in we would receive it the next day. I did argue with him that it had only been 15 minutes so his statement was ridiculous, he then stated that he did not have it in stock for us and that it would be in our room the next day. Oh and yeah, this is the same person I reported the door, wifi and AC to. Late afternoon the next day we still did not have our liquor I returned to the VIP lounge to ask about it only to learn that none of our issues had been reported. I have contacted Hyatt concerning all of this, they said they would contact management, but I have not heard from them. There is a Hyatt representative on the resort today and I have talked to him. He said they are receiving a large number of complaints. As I said beautiful view bad service. The waitstaff in the restaurants do the best they can, with limited help. There is no apparent management.

    Better than expected

Sunscape is a great option for an all inclusive vacation on a budget. I was a bit nervous due to some reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. The property is dated but I found it clean and the grounds are well kept. If you can spring for the honeymoon suite it's worth the view. We were on the first floor so we were pretty much on the beach. The AC and shower worked great and the room was clean. We used this as our home base while we explored the island and visited various landmarks and beaches. The snorkeling at Sunscape was actually the best out of them all. The food options were a bit limited for a picky eater such as myself but I always found something to eat. Oceana for breakfast (Sun Club) was my favorite and Blue Water Grill was my favorite for lunch and dinner. My only complaint is that the room service was never available, and that's supposed to be part of the sun club perks we paid extra for.

You get what you pay for

No room service unless you are VIP. We were placed in a VIP building (the last and furthest from the main hotel) but had to go to the main hotel area to get coffee, food, and amenities. Food service at the buffet was hit or miss depending on who had your table for drinks & cutlrey. Sometimes they ran out of clean forks & cups. The food was ok but not great and the resturants fulled up quickly so the buffet was busy but stocked. Staff at the bar were super attentive though.
