Was scared from the negative reviews, but all was fine!
We were there from 10/29 to 11/6. Yes, the food selection was limited but we ate well. Yes, the air conditioner could have been cooler. We called for a fan and it was delivered and made a big difference. They even called soon after to make sure it was delivered and that we were good. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. We bought the sun club upgrade and well worth it if you want decent bourbon or whiskey. I snorkeled every day, well protected reef with a great variety of fish. Don’t miss the fire show!

Pleasantly Surprised!
I was concerned from the previous reviews how our stay would be...pleasantly surprised! The AC worked great! The buffet food was good and the specialty restaurant food and experience was excellent! The best part though was the beach-spectacular! The reef and rock barrier kept the swimming area like a lagoon-looked like a still pool. The entrance to the water at the beach in places is rocky but there are plenty of sandy entry points-Just amazing! Only issue we had was never knowing when the pool bar would open or close-appeared to be at the desire of one bartender who was not friendly or very motivated. Everyone else was great! We loved the island as well and will definitely go back.

Poor customer service
Check-in experience was awful. Booked a King deluxe ocean view room and upon arrival staff said they were full and could not accommodate and gave a two bedroom queen room as an alternative with no refund. They told me that my room selection was a preference not a guarantee: however, I paid extra choosing that room.I was supposed to have an ocean view and while the room faced the ocean, there were palm trees in front of the window, and you could only see a sliver of the ocean. Staff did not seem happy to be there and did not seem eager to help justify their overbooking resulting in very poor customer service. I stayed at the resort for seven days and it seems like it was common practice to do that with rooms as half of my group as well as overhearing other people at the resort this same situation/problem kept coming up. After three days, they were able to finally get me the room I originally booked.

Basic and affordable with a stunningly beautiful beach.
Basic food and accommodations but the beach is amazing so if swimming in a protected lagoon like setting is important to you, this could be the place to chose. The specialty restaurants were good. Customer service was average with a few standout people on every service line that were exceptional. Overall had a great time!

very good vacation
This was our fourth trip to Curaçao. We had stayed at Mangrove/The Rif three times before, but this time we wanted to give Sunscape a try. After reading all the negative reviews, we weren't sure what to expect. So we left without very high expectations. The hotel itself is indeed quite outdated, but our room was very clean. Our air conditioning worked very well. It was just very noisy, but that didn't bother us too much. The location is really GREAT! We had a room in the Plover building, on the ground floor, so we could walk straight onto the beach. Our room had the most beautiful view! We did ask the reception for a broom, because being right on the beach, there was sand everywhere. They looked at us strangely, but the housekeeping team was very happy with this, because we tried to keep everything tidy. The food: It's basic. But we never left the buffet hungry. It could have been a little warmer. We also ate at the Italian restaurant once, and it was very tasty. Breakfast had everything you could want. If you want to have a really nice breakfast, try Bliss the Berry @ Mambo Beach (walking distance). Highly recommended! We don't participate in evening entertainment, but there was something to do every night. Staff: 10 out of 10! What friendly staff! Others may say otherwise, but for us, this really made our vacation. It's not a tipping culture, but they really appreciate mutual respect! Some even came to say goodbye on the day we left. We always rent a car, because Curaçao has so much to offer that it would be a shame to stay at the resort the whole time. So we had a fantastic vacation and will definitely be going back. If only to see all the staff again :).
