Great deal and great service!

My husband and I recently booked a trip through Cheap Caribbean with Riu Guanacaste for our honeymoon! We loved every minute of it! The resort was huge and family friendly with many dining options. We were able to book many fun and safe excursions at the resort. We were well taken care of and were able to relax as well as go on adventures.

My stay at Riu Guanacaste

The resort is nice rooms are average the beaches are different from the Caribbean , but nice . My disappointment comes from the food I enjoyed the breakfast buffet but lunch and dinner seem average they also need more restaurants and an option to reserve them. Another things I feel like rooms should have snacks and the Pool área should have another bar with snack bar . The positives the country’s is very green and fun and outdoorsy and we enjoyed the nightly entertainment the pre show was our favorite when you could interact. We really enjoyed the Italian restaurant and the gourmet one

Great hotel location, beautiful grounds, clean

Overall, the hotel is good and the staff are friendly and very nice. The buffet at the main hall (Liberia) was good especially the breakfast and lunch. We did not dine there for dinner as we opted for the specialty restaurants. You just need to arrive there 20-30 mins and fall in line to eat at 6pm or you may make a reservation at 7:30pm for a later dinner. We enjoyed the steakhouse at Ocotal the best. Our waiter Ignacio made it special for us. The rooms are just okay, but it is clean. They always made the room daily and stocked our frig with soda, waters, beer, etc. There is also 4 kinds of alcohol mounted on the wall for you to pour. We never touched it because we're not heavy drinkers. The shower needs more water pressure. I loved the A/C in the room. Wish it would turn off when we leave to save electricity. It only turns off when you leave the sliding glass ajar. Staff is always cleaning the main hallways, bathrooms, showroom, sidewalks, etc. Try and get a room facing the animal sanctuary. Our room 2007 faced the beautiful trees and every morning we woke up to howling monkeys and spider monkeys. We can see them climbing up the trees. In the afternoon, we walked on the path most of the workers used and we could always see the monkeys hanging on the trees. Wifi is limited to 3 devices. No way around it. The hotel needs to update the key-less access cards. You're given an actual key to open the door. The drinks are tasty, but lacks alcohol. I always asked for there strongest drink which was called a Torpedo. There are several bars, but the one that is open 24 hours is called Sports Bar. They have a pool table, fooz ball, and ping pong table. I think they could use a few arcade games like Galaga, Pac man, etc. It was a hit at another resort we visited in Jamaica. The pool was nice and you servers would come around to offer drinks. Water is warm in the pool. My wife wishes it was a bit cooler. My daughter played volleyball in the pool and other kids played water polo. I was able to get a scuba lesson trial for free in the pool. It's offered daily from 9am-3pm. It was my first time trying it. We played volleyball on the beach and people were usually there for a nice friendly game. The shows are ok and will last 1 hour starting at 9pm. The hotel usually offers a preactivity before the 9pm show like casino night, etc. They will bring out a bar out in the lobby which is always nicely decorated. The hotel should offer activities after 11pm. It is dead and nobody walking around. In fact they turn off the lights in the lobby area. We did only 1 excursion and booked through Vic from Victours Guanacaste. He is at the beach on a hammock. He is very trustworthy and friendly. He gave us a great deal and we did the canopy tour in Canon de vieja which included ziplining, water tubing in a 2 kilometer river, horseback riding, mountain climbing, hot springs/mud bath, and lunch. We got a private tour just the guide name Keylor and my family, no other outsiders. Can't beat that! Normally Vic comes with you, but he was booked so he brought on his number one guy Keylor to accompany us. He was the friendliest and nicest person ever. There are about 4 to 5 guys offering their tour services, and we chose Vic of Victours because he was not pushy and I answered all our questions. We looked him on this website and specifically searched for Vic or Victours and everyone gave him thumbs up as well. Overall, it was well worth the money. Costa Rica is nice and it will grow on you as you spend a few days. I enjoyed the resort. I would recommend it for the price we paid.

What's to Love

The all-inclusiveness: the food, the drinks, the everything.

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Three sparkling pools, surrounded by lush greens keep you refreshed and cool. Pool side bars quench your thirst.

The liquor dispenser in the room lets you craft your own cocktail (soda water and mixers are stocked in the fridge.)

The beach isn't crowded and the tropical background adds to its peacefulness. Find your perch.

The stunner of a view with green lush landscapes and rolling mountains off in the distance - breathtaking.

Riu knows how to put on a show and the live entertainment day and night won't disappoint.

Some great rocks nearby for snorkeling - pack your own gear if you want to make sure you get a mask.

What We'd Change

The walk from the lobby to the pool doesn't offer much shade. Luckily, the pool's swim-up bar offers quick relief with ice-cold beer.

Why You Should Go

Riu is not far from the airport in Liberia - a quick 20 minutes to your tropical oasis.

A great spot for adventure-seeking tourists with excursions like Rincon Nature Park and the Safari Park nearby.

The beachy tan sands are sometimes rocky under the water - just grab shoes to wear & you'll be set.

Laid-back Costa Rican resort with lots to experience in the area - unique foliage and wild life add to the charm.

Much-needed spa time lets you get uber relaxed - massages, steam baths, facials in tropical paradise.

Activities galore - tennis, ping pong, beach volleyball, windsurfing, kayaks, paddle boards. Game on.
