Rude Staff

I have stayed at a number of all inclusive hotels( I even got married at one) I heard great things about the Riu in general which is why I booked the Riu Bahamas, This was by far the worst experience I have ever had at an all inclusive. The staff was rude and mean! You always felt like a burden to them. From the front desk that would get annoyed if you asked for change to the restaurant staff who seemed miserable. It definitely appeared that they were understaffed and underpaid a very poor appearance and representation of the Riu. I had read some mixed reviews but I gave them the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe people were just uptight and expecting way too much of the staff. At an all inclusive you would hope that you can sit at one of the restaurants and have dinner. We went down at 6:30 our first night to eat and signs were up that the restaurant have reached capacity for the evening. There were still plenty of seats open but I guess they can only feed a certain amount of people each night. There is no reservations or system so you wait on line for an hour to find out if you will even be able to eat there. Another night we tried the Japanese restaurant and were told by nasty staff to come back and try at 730 and no guarantees we would get in. We ended up eating at Atlantis 2 nights and paying a fortune when we paid to be at an all inclusive hotel and then eating at the buffet the other nights. Even at the dining hall/buffet they were understaffed we asked for napkins and drinks 4 times and never got anything before we finished eating. What an awful experience. The pool staff were rude and nasty as well - and unsanitary- one of the drink ladies was in the restroom the same time as me and came out of the stall DID NOT WASH HER HANDS and then went to make drinks with NO GLOVES on . Overall i was very disappointed in the RIU. Thank god the beach was gorgeous it was the only thing good about this hotel.

Not worth the money - better options

Where do I begin. I travel often and this was my first adult trip since becoming a mom. It was extremely disappointing to say the least. First the staff is extremely rude. They rarely make eye contact let alone converse with you unless of course you show them a $5 tip upfront. The food was pretty awful other than the Asian fusion type restaurant. Both me and my fiancé got extremely ill for a day from the food. The drinks are also all made with low end liquors with no options of an upgrade for a decent vodka or tequila. So drinks are mainly juice and never consistent. The pool looks so much better on the website. You get in and it’s so small so people are on top of you. The absolute worst part of the trip was the beach and the loitering that’s takes place. It NEVER ENDS. These people do not let you relax... they are selling you bags, cigars, jet skis, jewelry, hats... it doesn’t end and it’s literally EVERY two minutes a new person bothering you while you’re trying to relax on a beach. I stopped going to the beach day 2 because they were so aggressive in behavior and rude when you said ‘not interested’. My biggest concern is for the moms and dads or newly weds looking for a place to relax — this is NOT the place. It was not worth the money and my worst trip yet. I travel often and would never recommend this place.

Had a great time

We stayed and riu from 12/27-01/6 and enjoyed every minute. The food was excellent and there was a buffet on new year;s eve that was better than I have ever seen. I ate at least a dozen lobster tails....some steamed and many grilled. new ear;s eve celebration was great with dancing and Junkanoo....(dancing in costumes) that had everyone up and going. The restaurant situation isnt great because you have to wait in line to get a reservation....the restaurants open at 6 and the lines fore by 5:30....we decided once to wait and got the reservation for later, but had to stand in the line first....the restaurants were worth the wait in my opinion though. service was excellent and the 24 hour bar had great martinis.....(be careful they are strong--I wasnt careful enough. If you are going to go scuba diving this is not a great location. There was one dive shop close, but not my favorite. The other one is about an hour away.Mixed reviews on that one based on the dive master. But both are monstrously expensive....So Nassau is not a diving destination as far as I am concerned. The beach was the best in Nassau, but the water was a bit rough the time we were there.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Primo beachfront locale - three miles of satiny sand hugged by luscious, aquamarine water.

The Renova Spa - the massages squeeze the stress right out of your bod.

The rockin' theme nights twice a week - get ready to kick it. Put on your party pants.

Krystal Fusion Restaurant - it's a journey into the unexplored terrain of epic new sensations.

The unfailing, beachtastic service & attention. You'll feel like the beach royalty that you are.

Did we mention this resort has the only infinity pool in all of Nassau/Paradise Island?

What We'd Change

You may not find as many on-site activities like the other mega resorts, but the prime beachfront property makes up for it.

Why You Should Go

There's a hoppin', Vegas-style casino next door - grab sweet Lady Luck and try your hand.

The water sports (jet skis, water skiing & more) will blow you out of the water. Hang on!

You can dive into aahh-mazing excursions like swimming with the dolphins.

Atlantis next door has a great nightclub when you want to get your dance on.

The inventive entertainment staff is off-the-charts creative. They won't disappoint.

You're close to downtown Nassau - see the old quarter, museums, zoo and botanical gardens.

Bahama Mama Mia does this Riu have it all. And then some. Let's start with the dreamy, three-mile stretch of silky sand, where you can chillax, get your drink on (and on - no one's counting) and ignore the world, or hit a game of beach volleyball and burn some calories. And that's just the tip of the beachberg. Toggle between the Jacuzzi at the epic infinity pool and indulge in stress-ousting treatments at the lush spa aka Relaxation Central, or hit the slots next door and hang at the always-festive, hip bars until the sea cows come home. Is that a "yes" we hear? When might we expect you?
