Excellent Resort

I went to Grand Hyatt a few weeks after the Hurricane so it was not busy at all. IT was fully functional and lovely. The resort is absolutely beautiful as well as the room. The only issue was with the price of food- It is VERY Expensive so allow for at least $100 per day to eat.

Gorgeous resort

Prior to booking my trip, I read the reviews and was concerned as people complained it was too expensive and that they had additional charges on their bills. You should know I am an extremely frugal person, I booked my trip through, the resort fee was included in my purchase, so I didn't have to worry about that. I had upgraded to the fountain view room and when we got there, it was more a view of the parking lot. the fountain is an actual man-made little fountain, it's really not worth the extra charge. I complained and I was immediately accommodated and they offered to upgrade me to the beachfront view for just an additional 30 bucks. Much better view and worth the extra money. We would watch cruise ships docking and we also had a view of Atlantis. Ask for the full balcony and not the Juilette. The fountain view should not be an extra charge, it's really not that great of a view. There are two towers at the resort, East tower, and West, I stayed at both and honestly the East tower is by far the best for your buck. It is more elegant, the rooms are much nicer and just simply gorgeous. I recommend asking for the East tower. The west tower is a bit more simple, so if you are into simple and modern design then this will be your best option. East tower is a bit more bougie - our room had a double sink, stand-alone tub, shower, and toilet. We asked for the minibar to get locked so we wouldn't incur any charges. We asked and received a microwave and fridge. The resort fee includes Dasani water bottles, and any time we needed additional water, it was sent to our room immediately. One thing, I want to address is that the staff and workers at the hotel are extremely friendly. I read reviews that mentioned rude staff and that is not true at all. We took the time to speak to the staff and we were always respectful and said good morning, good afternoon, good evening. They were some people who would look at you, but honestly, it's because they were trying to figure it out if we were going to friendly or rude. What I witnessed is that the guests were the ones that were rude and disrespectful and not the staff. You have your bougies guests that think they are better than everyone else and are racist. Expensive: Yes it is expensive, but I packed my kids snacks, instant oatmeal, mac n cheese, peanut butter. We went to the store and got some bread and milk. We saved a lot of money by doing that. Food Options: You can either eat at the resort or step outside the resort. There are several fish fry restaurants that are 10. The food trucks on the beach are way cheaper than eating inside the hotel. Remember on this island they have a sales tax and they include automatically gratuity. So DON'T TIP EXTRA, unless if you want to. The Regatta buffet is worth the money. There is an endless amount of choices and everything was absolutely delicious. We ate at the buffet at least 4 times and we got our monies worth. When we ate at the buffet we were so full we couldn't eat lunch and dinner. If the kids got hungry they just had mac n cheese or made a sandwich. Pools: They are so many pools at the resort at least 7 that the guests have the option to. The beach was really nice and clean, the staff set up umbrellas for you. Endless amount of beach towels and lemon water. Overall it was a really excellent and relaxing vacation - 9 days of wonderful weather. The disappointment was the drinks, I was not too impressed with their pina Coladas or mudslides. These drinks were too slushy for me and for the price of 2 drinks it really was not worth it. I just expected better taste. Overall the prices on this resort are comparable to those I have seen in Cayman Island and St. Thomas. You just have to budget. If you want to be extra frugal, they have KFC, Pizza hut, McDonald's, Dairy Queen on the island. There is a Starbucks in the hotel, you can pay cash, they don't accept gift cards. Tried using my gift card and they said no. Starbucks was a bit pricey too. TIPS: Bring your own snacks, cereal, cookies, alcohol. Eat at the buffet - we loaded up or bellies at the buffet managed to eat just one meal per day off the buffet. You can get fresh bananas and apples at the buffet and I took them back to the room to eat later. The food trucks give you large options - there is a food truck that has gourmet hot dogs. My daughter went to another food truck and got a chicken burrito, it was huge and came with Guacamole, salsa and sour cream. I want to another food truck and got a brisket sandwich that came with an option of beans or coleslaw, it was delicious. So many different options and all the food was delicious. Budget: The biggest key here is to budget. Also, negotiate. When we got to the airport we negotiated the taxi ride Go downtown and visit the straw market for gifts...but remember to negotiate - they try to overprice, but I learned the trick right away. Negotiate!! If you are friendly, the people respond with kindness!! Beautiful island, beautiful people. Expensive, yes, but its vacation, it's going to be expensive. You can see your daily charges on the TV, I was able to keep up with what was being charged. I had no issues with billing at all. My other complaint is the beds ---holy not comfortable- the pillows were terrible. I did ask for a better pillow and received memory foam. That helped a little bit. Overall, I got my monies worth here. I give it 4.5 stars - the bed quality and drink quality were my issues. The last issue is that things close so early, by 6 the food trucks are closed. My recommendation is to extend the time to at least 7:30. Also, the bus stops running at 6:30, so if you are still out in the town, you will need to take a taxi back. Definitely, recommend this place. It is absolutely gorgeous.
