Not a great hotel

We did Cheap Caribbean’s “Deal of Fortune” and were placed at The British Colonial Hilton. The property is downtown and easy to walk to many places. The pool is nice and the private beach is clean. It is somewhat sheltered from the open ocean and there were no waves. Waitress service is available but 2 times we had to go to the bar and ask for a waitress as they didn’t come by. The pool area was not crowded. The hotel needs upgrading. There are holes in the hallway carpeting. The room was clean and the bathroom was updated. Comfortable bed. No table and chairs in the room. We ordered room service once. The food was decent but should have been better. Overall the people here are very nice. The vacation was very reasonably priced so there is no surprise that you get what you pay for.

Long nassau weekend

Very nice historic building in a central location. The view is amazing! The cruise ships pass less that 100 yards from shore, it's great to watch. The pool was a bit cold, but it is February, beach is clean and large , caribbean was warmer than the pool. We had a couple overcast days that were perfect for on foot sightseeing, queens staircase, wattling distillery, Junkanoo beach, fish fry and others are all nearby. We didn't eat at the resort at all, we walked or taxied to local restaurants and there are plenty. The people were great, very friendly and helpful. Only "downside " it is a bit expensive compared to some other caribbean destinations, comparable to the Cayman. 12% tax and 15-17% gratituity are on all checks. We will go back and I would be comfortable recommending and staying at the British Colonial Hilton. And, we booked here on the "deal of fortune".

Deal of Fortunee

Purchased the deal of fortune so did not find out what hotel we would be staying at until a week before. The room was nice but the resort seemed a little outdated overall, especially when compared to the resorts on Cable Beach and Paradise Island. Fitness center was nice, pool was really cold, no hot tub, no pool table, no ping pong, etc. Beach is well-maintained but on the smaller side and right next to the cruise ship port. They have kayaks but the roped off swim area is a little too small to actually have fun using them. The cruise ship area is incredibly busy with cruise-goers from 9-5 but then the town shuts down in that area. Luckily we found some great restaurants about a mile from the hotel at the Fish Fry/Arawak Key. Hotel is also within walking distance of John Watlings distillery, Graycliffe Hotel and Queen's Staircase - all of which we had a good time visiting. Staff at the hotel are incredibly friendly and helpful - they make this place! Overall, it is fine as a base if you want to explore the island.

Below 4.5 Advertised

This was a Deal of Fortune. Cheap Caribbean advertised the British Colonial Hotel as a 4.5 hotel, but it was a 3 at best. The hotel is historic but old. There is a intense smell of mildew throughout the hotel. The shower is rusted and the carpet smelled. The pool is dirty but the beach is nice. What made up for these down falls is how friendly everyone is. EVERY SINGLE staff member is friendly and polite. You are in the heart of the shopping area where shops are within walking distance. Be prepared to spend a lot of money. The dinning oppositions in the hotel are ridiculously expensive. The island is lovely and the people here are kind hearted. Because of our hotel stay I probably would never come back the the Bahamas, but I wouldn’t discourage others from visiting I just would tell them to stay at a different hotel
