Not as good as it once was

This is our third time at a Riu in Aruba The first time we stayed at the Riu Palace in Aruba it was great. The service, food liquor and rooms were all excellent The second trip to Riu Aruba we stayed at Riu Antilles all adult in 2018 Not A good experience at all I paid for a suite which not available for my first 2 nights of a 5 night stay. the hotel was a makeover of some other hotel and it showed Rooms and furniture were terrible food and service not up to par we switched to Antilles because the palace was no longer adult only. This was a big mistake I would never stay there again. Fast forward to 2020 we decide to go back to the Riu Palace Aruba since it was so good our first time We knew it was not adults only bit we did not expect the children to be a issue and they were not an issue. But the level of service was not good rooms need updating Place is Just average 2.5 out of 5 will not be back On a positive note the food at the dinner buffet was very good we ate there 2 out of 6 nights. The other 4 nights we left the property and ate in the many good restaurants in the area

Beautiful beach, but I expected so much more

Pros: Beach is the best along the hotel strip by far. Beautiful white powder sand and no sea grass unlike other parts. Pools were nice. The view from our room was amazing. Room was clean. Overall, hotel employees were very nice and helpful. The only hotel employees that were not helpful were the spa employees. They were kind of rude and seemed judgmental. The buffet was very good for breakfast. Lunch and dinner buffet were okay at best. The restaurants for dinner were not good at all. We were very disappointed. I wasn't expecting amazing food but I was expecting it to be much better than what it was. They wouldn't fill our Bubba cups but let us get multiple drinks at a time to pour in our cups. No one tried to sell us anything like time shares or upgrades as I've seen them do at other all inclusives. We felt very safe everywhere we went on the island. We took a UTV tour and it was awesome, definitely recommend it. Also went boating and water skiing with the people right by the pier and that was great as well. Had dinner at passions and the food was great but that part of the island smells like sewage so they did a good job masking it with candles. Cons: Dinner restaurants were not good at all. Room service menu was very limited. King bed was as other people said, two beds pushed together with a very annoying space between them right were I would normally sleep. Pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable as well. De Palm tours staff have a table in the lobby and were not helpful and kind of rude. We couldn't even use the airport transfer we bought through cheapcarribeam from De Palm tours because we were given incorrect info on how to reserve our ride back and what time to catch the bus. Coupons we got from booking through cheapcarribeam were practically worthless. Can only use one coupon per person so I got $10 off a $70+ pedicure and that was it. The others were for other expensive spa services and scubacarribean tours. I don't snorkel or scuba so all those coupons went totally unused. the rooms themselves were non-smoking but our neighbors were smoking on their balcony so that made ours smell. The casino allowed smoking so the lobby was very smokey at times and people smoked random other places on the resort and the beach. Not a big deal, but I would have loved a schedule of events to know when the different activities were happening.

1st Time in Aruba

Stayed at the RIU. Food was great, people were great.Top notch place. Took an excursion, "Off Road Safari" which was also the best. Our guide with DePalm Tours was Giandro and Shelton. Great guys and made the whole day fun. We went into town, walked the streets, rented a jeep and toured the whole island with no worry's or ever feeling uncomfortable. The people of Aruba were the best minded and thankful people I have meet in a long time. Keep in mind this is a dessert island and not a tropical island. Rated 10, A+, 5 stars.....and thank you to all those who we came into contact with. Highly recommend!!!

Our Recent Stay

I love coming here because the property is situated on a beautiful part of the beach with soft sand and a great pool. All inclusive option is the way to go as the food is good.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Palm Beach is one of Caribbean's best beaches - the sands are so soft, the waves so gentle. It's paradise.

At the main pool, the hot spot is close to the swim-up bar. Lots of mixing and mingling and music.

The staff is awe-mazing, making sure everything is taken care of just for you. You want for nothing here.

Martini drinker? Pull up a seat at the lobby bar. The Espresso Martinis here are legendary.

The ocean waters couldn't be better for whatever water-adventure you're heart desires. Snorkel, anyone?

What We'd Change

Aruba's white sands and calm waters will be your favorite, but get there early to get the best seat.

Why You Should Go

You're in a prime location here and as one of the most tourist-friendly islands, you'll fall in love.

Champagne bubbly awaits you once you arrive. Cheers! Vacay starts now.

Rent a bicycle and you can tour the island at your own speed. Downtown is full of shopping & local flavors.

Picture-worthy sunsets. Grab a cocktail and perch yourself along the shores. It's worth it.

Daily bus service runs up and down the hotel strip. Bonus part: cost is around $2.50.

Some of the best snorkeling and diving in the area - coral-encrusted shipwrecked Antilla sits underwater.
