Go somewhere else
I read the negative reviews and thought that people were exaggerating or being picky as I’ve been to Bahia Principe hotels before and found them to be great if you’re used to 3 star hotels, maybe not truly 5 star, but really good. That said, this hotel is crap. It’s a bit tired but that wouldn’t matter if the rest was up to scratch. But it’s not. The drinks aren’t on the same level as other Bahia Principe hotels, the food in the buffet is nice, but barely warm and definitely not the same quality as other hotels of the same brand. The real negative though, are the a la carte restaurants. They’re abysmal. Not even just not amazing, which they are in other Bahia principe hotels, they’re honestly a joke. Other than that, something to be aware of, because the beach is next to a river, the sea is completely brown, with snorkelling a complete no-no. If I were you, I go to a 3 star hotel with good reviews, as that would be far better than here.

Beautiful stay, outstanding staff
We were very impressed from the start of our stay, after checking in my husband and I were transported to our room. The room was spacious, we found the bed was very comfy, although we did hear other people saying different. A nice low bath so it was easy to have a shower. It looked like they had removed the bidet. No problems with the room at all. The room was cleaned and fresh towels in whenever you needed it and the mini bar in the fridge stocked every day, we had 2 cans lager, 2 bottles of coke and a bottle of orange and we had fresh bottles of water every day. We were lucky to have a ground floor room with a table and chairs which overlooked the pool Very thoughtfully they leave you an umbrella in your room which we really needed especially as we had an awful thunderstorm on our first night. Food was presented fabulously and was quite nice and varied but I thought it would of had a bit more taste to the main dishes, most were a bit bland. Best things were (for me anyway) was the crispy bacon at breakfast and the desserts. Drinks were offered all the time and the staff in the restaurant was fabulous, it was very clean and the food was topped up regularly. Bar staff were very quick and we saw no favouritism. No member of staff ever lingered or seemed to expect any tips. Entertainment team were great and the entertainment shows were wonderful. Pools were lovely, as we don't swim we enjoyed the outdoor Jacuzzi every day and it was cleaned regularly by a pool attendant as it got leaves in it as it was near trees and the toilets were right next to it. The beach was lovely for the first 13 days where you could see fish and jelly fish up close to the beach, unfortunately on the last day seaweed had washed up along with bits of plastics and other rubbish, whether it came from the river downstream, which we had heard it does or if it came from out at sea like a couple said it had, we don't know, but it made the water very cloudy and dirty looking but it didn't smell and the fish were still swimming close to the sea. It made it look very uninviting, such a shame. But the next morning they had a tractor out clearing it all up although it was still washing up a bit. Personally I wouldn't give it a 5* due to the blandness of the food, the issues with the seaweed and rubbish being washed up on the beach, having to pay for drinks at the beach bar and showing the obvious removal of the bidet and repair on the shower door in the room. If the kiddies are interested in wildlife and insects then get them to keep a look out for land crabs (which we saw 2 of) but they've got some nasty claws so be careful, green snakes that live in the greenery and trees (which we saw 1 of) and lizards they are in the lobby centrepiece and outside (which we saw a few) and the birds are lovely, take a look in the trees in the hotel village which looks like finches and in the hotel grounds there are little black birds called chinchillas (I think that's how its spelt).

The best holiday
I spent an amazing 11 days here . I don’t understand any of the negative reviews. The staff were all so helpful. Ronny always had my drinks ready at the restaurant. Nieve kept my room spotless. Delgis the TUI rep went above and beyond to help. Reception staff helped as had taken the wrong travel plug . Quickly sorted. Shout out to Franklin entertainment, Luis pool bar, Francisco and Darliana. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

Nice Place - Too many children running wild throughout the place. Not a relaxing experience for elderly visitors.
The resort is very well maintained. There were too many locals with too many children. I could not enjoy time in the pool or hot tubs due to the noise and splashing by the children. It really was substantial enough that I would not return there. I would consider the adults only resorts in the future. It is not a relaxing stay for vacation due to this. Children were running wild and there was no security to keep things calm and safe for the elders.

Bahia Principe Grand La Romana Did Not Disappoint
Second time to this beautiful resort. Last time was in January 2020. It was excellent then and we were glad to see that the service, food, cleanliness, and overall upkeep of the resort sustained the pandemic. Food was so excellent and there was such a wide variety that we decided to, for the most part, skip the a la cartes restaurants. Though we did go to the French restaurant and the food was good. Rooms were large, well maintained and very clean. Staff is very friendly and always acknowledge you even just to say hello. Made you feel welcome. The Beach is well maintained and though there were days when the seaweed came in, the staff was right there raking it up and hauling it away. Lounge chairs were mainly new and comfortable. Lots of places to sit. The Beach is long and nice for walks. The water was not as clear and inviting as it was when we went in the winter and there were small jelly fish... and/or something else in the water that would give tiny stings occasionally. But we figure it is the time of year. Definitely not something the resort can control. The pool was crystal clear, large, and very well kept. Various activities throughout the day. Pool bar was very good and the staff was great at making you laugh while getting you your drinks. Nightly entertainment was very good. A few of the shows were your typical cheesy type shows that you get at most resorts... But their Variety show and their Circus show were excellent!!! They also do a white night with music and dancing on the beach... So be sure to bring something white. Definitely would recommend this resort and we probably will return.
