Honest review of the Dreams Tulum Preferred club

We stayed at DREAMS Tulum for one week in January 2026, in a garden view room with two double beds in the Preferred Club. Check-in: Very good service. Friendly welcome with warm towels. Our luggage was delivered to the room. No welcome drink, but there's a bar in the lobby. Room: Very beautiful and spacious, with a sitting area. Large balcony, though only two chairs. The bathroom is big, with an enclosed toilet, two sinks and everything was very clean. The mattresses and pillows are good quality. Soundproofing is decent. No difference in the minibar for Preferred Club. The gardens are beautiful event at night and well maintained. The palm trees are stunning. Pools: One quiet, large pool with no music, though still some children playing. Another long pool with activities. Both are quite cold but very clean. There is also a shallow splash area for young children (1 foot deep). Beach: Beautiful long stretch of white sand. Yes, there is seaweed, but you can step over it and still enjoy the warm water. Lots of coral — water shoes are a good idea. But there are also nice sandy areas with shallow water. It’s not a place for swimming. The Preferred section is quieter, but the water is nicer in the regular section. Lounge chairs: Not many shaded areas. You have to get up early. It’s the first time our chairs were taken — twice actually in seven days — even though our towels were on them and we had only gone to eat. Kids’ Club: Good, with nice water games and slides. But they can close without notice. And you must stay at the hotel. Split schedule blocks. Restaurants: The food was definitely the biggest disappointment of our trip. The buffet has very limited options and low quality. In the morning, smoked salmon only available on weekends, very long wait for a fried egg/omelet or bacon (which is hidden) (20–30 minutes), no sausages, no hard-boiled or poached eggs, only overcooked scrambled eggs available without waiting. They also reuse meal from the previous day (meats for tacos or fajitas), and some tasted odd, even questionable. At lunch and dinner, the selection is limited, no seafood except shrimp. Having been to several resorts in Mexico and elsewhere, the food here is inferior and comparable to Cuba. That was not expected for a « unlimited luxury ». Best option: Portofino is open for Preferred Club members at breakfast. Service is slow but the food is better. Bagel with a little of smoked salmon, poached eggs, benedict, more choices of juices ... and bacon. The « à la carte » restaurants, although no reservation is required, are disappointing. The best ones are El Patio (Mexican), Seagrill (beautiful view, good ceviche), and Portofino (Italian, good lasagna and pomodoro pasta). Gohan (sushi) is absolutely inedible, and having a sushi bar was important to us. Tasty fish, salmon unfrozen with grey fat still on. On the other hand, the wine (four varieties) is excellent. This was our first experience at a DREAMS resort and unfortunately the last, as food quality is very important to us. But it was still a beautiful hotel. Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an/Akumal or Akumal Bay are better choices.
