Wonderful family vacation with excellent service
My family and I had a wonderful week-long vacation at Dreams Sands (wish I was still there!) thanks to the beautiful location, amenities, and incredible staff (Aurora, Brandon, Diana, Fernando, Leandro, Dra. Rodríguez, Explorer's Club, Entertainment Teams and many others!). In my experience, each traveller has their own unique set of criteria so I am hoping to be as specific and helpful as possible. Our group consisted of myself, my husband, our two children (ages 3 and 5) as well as our friends with children the same age. Our criteria was safety, calm beaches for our kids to swim and play in, good facilities, good food, and good service. We specifically picked Dreams Sands because we had read that the beaches on the northern side of Cancún have calmer waters for kids to play in and that the resort was family-friendly (both of these are true!). My husband and I had previously visited Cancún twice but had never stayed at Dreams Sands or on the northern shore. We booked one of the nicest rooms in the hotel with a balcony and jacuzzi tub with ocean views from every room. The room was clean and room service was excellent. Other reviewers have commented on the dated decor, and I would agree. We did not spend much time in our room and it's not something super important to us as travellers, but if ultra-modern decor is important to you then it is something to be mindful of. We were upgraded to the Premium Club due to booking one of their nicest rooms and we enjoyed access to the coffee/tea and snacks at the Premium Club as well as access to the Premium Club pool (very cold but our kids loved the waterfall and fountains!) and beach. While we enjoyed those amenities, I wouldn't say it is something we would pay for had it not been included in our booking. This was our first time staying at an all-inclusive resort and we were not quite sure what to expect in terms of food and we were pleasantly surprised. We ate at most restaurants - Japanese, Mexican, Italian, World Café, Premium Club breakfast - and never had a bad meal. We really enjoyed the outdoor patio room at Portofino/breakfast and tried to eat there as much as possible. The entire wait staff is excellent, but special appreciation to Portofino waiter Brandon for taking such good care of our family and being so attentive to us! We also enjoyed the coffee/ice cream bar that is open almost 24/7. There was a variety of activities offered throughout the day, which we enjoyed on days when we were not doing excursions off-site. I have to say that the entertainment team does a phenomenal job and are incredibly hardworking. You see them there at all hours of the day with smiles on their faces going above and beyond to show guests a good time. We enjoyed the live music in the evening and the movie night for kids! They do a great job of catering to a diverse clientele - couples, families, etc. We were all so tired by the end of the day that the music at night (sometimes until past 10) did not keep us our our children awake. Our children greatly enjoyed the Explorer's Club and all of the different activities offered. Cynthia, María, and the entire time were so kind, sweet, and attentive to our children. They have a range of games and craft activities and even take the kids swimming (God bless them!). We greatly appreciate their kindness to our children and all of their efforts to provide the littlest guests with a memorable experience. They loved painting, making and breaking piñatas, swimming, and playing in the Explorer's Club, Thank you so much, girls! There are four pools (including Premium Club pool) plus a kiddie pool and each pool tends to have its own "personality". The one with the swim-up bar tends to attract adults looking to relax with a drink where as the other two large pools are more mixed use with lots of families. There is also a small hot tub that allowed children to use it, which is either good or bad depending on what you are looking for. One observation is that guests tend to come down very early in the morning to "reserve" a pool chair by putting a towel or other things on the chair. Since young children tend to wake up so early, we were often the first ones at the pool but even then there was already limited seating due to people who "mark their territory" and then go to breakfast. The beach shore itself is not very big (I would imagine due to erosion) but the water is calm and not deep at all, so you can go out pretty far and still be able to stand. We saw some cool fish swimming around, which was pretty neat. When you stay at a place for a week, you notice a lot of things. The thing that my husband and I commented on the most was the incredible service. The staff is warm, welcoming, and hardworking. There are people cleaning, sweeping sand, preparing/serving drinks, preparing/serving food, organizing activities and events, caring for children, landscaping, servicing rooms, and so much more at all hours. I would like to express our gratitude to Fernando and Leandro (security team), Diana (supervisor) and Dra. Rodríguez (medical doctor) who were so attentive and kind when our son fell (he is completely fine!). A cynic might say that it's their job to be nice, but do truly believe that the excellent service at this hotel is a representation of the warmth and kindness that is such an important part of Mexican culture, which I adore and respect so much.

Breathtaking! Incredibly beautiful!
Overall, my wife and I enjoyed our stay (7days, 6 nights). This is our 5th time in Cancun and we have stayed in 4 different places. This was our first time at Dreams Sands. Even though my wife and I are easy to please, we have yet to find the perfect resort but it probably doesn’t exist. So let me give you the pros and cons Pros -(1) the food was AMAZING!!! Great variety of restaurants with very unique appetizers and entrees. This was the BEST feature of the resort. I have read reviews where they said the food was bad but I have NO idea why they would say that. The service at each restaurant was excellent. You don’t need reservations at any of their restaurants EXCEPT if you want the Japanese Hibachi at the Himitsu restaurant. You need to go on the resort app at 3:15 of the day you wanna go to make a reservation. (2) the 3 pools are nice and water was a comfortable temperature. (3) the ocean water was so beautiful, calm and clear. Very shallow though (maybe 2ft high) with calm waves. TIP- go across the street to the gift shop or XOXO mini market and buy a float. The towel attendant will inflate it for you. (4) we were preferred club so we got a room with a balcony. The view was breathtaking. Rooms were very nice although we had to get maintenance to fix our shower which didn’t work but it was fixed within an hour. (5) the singers who performed in the lobby and the outdoor patio at 9pm were outstanding. Cons - (1) I like seeing good entertainment after dinner but their evening shows were lacking. It mostly consisted of a few dancers performing basic moves on the small outdoor stage. I like resorts that have large theaters that put on entertaining shows with talented performers and themes. Plus the shows were at 8pm which is kind of early because we like to stay on the beach until 6:30 and then go to dinner around 7:15. So we would miss half the show. The karaoke show was in the sports bar with few seats so you had to stand up to watch the guests perform. (2) beach lounge chairs were very crowded and close together. It was difficult to get a good chair lounge and palapa unless you came down at 8am to reserve a chair lounge or palapa. If you want an area that’s quiet, go find a seat by the water sports rentals.

Family VK
The hotel is about 20-25 min from the airport. it has an amazing atmosphere for all the ages. Personally the rooms can be fix a little bit (specially the bathrooms and balcony) but everything and everywhere was really nice and clean. The noise level can be a problem depending on your room location like (606-620 right in top of the stage but the view is amazing). The service is 10/10 every single one of them were amazing, helpful and always had a smile on their face. Shout out to Manuela (beach waitress), Abraham (El Patio waiter), Maricruz (spa) and Ricardo (front desk preferred club) thank you so much for all your hard work XOXO.
