    Read before booking

This was one of the most disappointing resort experiences I’ve ever had. The entire setup at Bahia Principe Gran Coba feels like forced segregation. Because I stayed at the “lowest” hotel, I had almost no access to the others, while their guests can go anywhere they please. Every guest is marked by bracelet color, so you’re constantly identified and reminded you don’t belong. It feels degrading and humiliating. When I booked, there was no mention of this ridiculous system, and all four hotels were priced the same. Had I known, I would have chosen Tulum or Akumal, which are clearly far superior. Instead, just getting to the beach means walking through hotels where you don’t feel welcome — and with a foot injury I got during my trip, every step was painful. Having to limp past areas I’m “not allowed” in only made it worse. To add insult to injury, we made friends staying at the Tulum hotel. We even ate there with them before without issue, but this morning when we met them again, we were denied drinks — simply because of the color of our bracelets. Imagine paying thousands for a vacation and still being treated like a second-class guest. When I was asked to explain my 3 star review, all they offered me was a laughable $4 discount on an “upgrade bracelet” so I could finally access what other guests already enjoy. That’s not customer service, that’s exploitation. And this when I have 1 day left here. Bahia should be honest in their advertising: explain this system clearly before people book. Otherwise, scrap the whole concept because it ruins the vacation experience. There is a positive side to the hotel and it’s the staff at bars and restaurants, they are adorable and give an amazing service! Carlos and Ernesto at the Terraza bar, the barman at the poor people’s beach, and one of the ladies at the Lobby bar were excellent.

Avoid hotel is filthy 2 star at best

Awful experience! Arrived to a less than helpful receptionist told to check map when asked where things are! Room was disgusting dirty sheets broken furniture ants crawling on cabinet. Rest of hotel not much better sunbeds filthy fans above guest services absolutely caked in dust. Complained to guest services told would need to pay 300 dollars to upgrade refused but offered to pay difference it would have been for tullum next door was told they would speak with manager and to return in 1/2 hour. As walked away spotted a sanitary towel stuck to the floor in reception and noted several staff just walked past therefore reported to guest services. Returned in 1/2 hour as requested to be met by the rudest most unhelpful woman called chrystina who point blankly said they would be doing nothing. Had to request several times to speak to the manager who when we advised of the full story agreed to move us next door to the tullum free of charge.

    Not a great holiday

The hotel is lovely. The food is average to good. The staff work tirelessly, however, the bar staff definitely show favouritism to the locals that arrive and take over from Thursday to Monday every week. Trying to get a drink at the pool bar is near impossible because of groups of locals ordering vast amounts of drinks. There is a queuing system at the main bar and snack bar. The problem is that there is only one person at the three bars serving a hotel full of guests. Obviously causing a massive queue. Guests also bringing thermos in to get more drinks again causing delays at the bars. Self service beer, water and fruit juice always running out, again adding pressure to the bars. Our room was nice and the cleaner again worked tirelessly. The grounds of the hotel with the wildlife was really nice, again hats off to the staff. On checking in we were given very vague information about the hotel, shown a map on the reception desk and nothing more. I would suggest at paper printed map given to arrival guests to aid location of facilities. I have stayed in Bahía Príncipe hotels before but found the managing of this one lacking somewhat. Would I return to this hotel, definitely not for me.

Really bad service go elsewhere! An hours wait to get a drink! One person serving at the bar for hundreds of people!

Service terrible! One person serving at the pool bar and swim up bar ! Had to wait an hour just to get a drink! If you’re Mexican you get served first! Totally strip the buffet and take over the whole resort! Waiting to get a drink and they are ordering for family, friends not queuing just go straight to the front and get served ! Stood behind someone and they ordered 27 drinks and carried on ordering! Not a fair system! Breakfast on a morning queue out of the door and when you get in the buffet is empty stripped by the locals! Snack bar normal people take a couple of slices of pizza not the locals they take the whole counter leaving you nothing and having to wait again! Never ever would I come back and can’t wait for the flight home!

5th time Bahia Principe Grand Coba, still as good as the first time in 2012

This is our 5th time Bahia Principe Grand Coba and still as good as the first time in 2012. We love coming back here for the resort itself and for the staff. We booked through TUI.nl and I sended the hotel an e-mail to request a specific building forvour stay. They reacted very fast and put us in the requested building. We were very happy :) Breakfast in restaurant Kukulcan is still very good. Never an empty buffet. As soon as a dish threatens to run out, it is immediately replenished. Wonderful staff; Perpetue and Juana Maria (always working together) and Rosa. Table always beautifully decorated. Same goes for diner. Never an empty buffet. In the evening lovely music, silent disco and much more. Eventhough it was low season still plenty going on in the evening. My compliments for the staff at the lobby bar, especially Noemi and Ofelia! Room needs an update (we know they are working on that), but still very neat and clean. We cannot wait to come back next year!
