Beautiful Hotel, But Service and Cleanliness Fall Far Short
I recently stayed at the Bahia Principe Grand in Ocho Rios — both overnight and with a day pass on separate occasions — and while the hotel has a lot of potential, there were some serious letdowns that impacted the overall experience. 🌴 The Good: • The hotel itself is beautiful, with great amenities including several shops, a spa, a well-equipped gym, and access to a wide range of excursions. • I enjoyed a sunset yoga session, and the poolside games added a fun, lively touch to the atmosphere. • The kids club seemed well set up, though I didn’t use it personally. • Music and entertainment were okay — not amazing, but still enjoyable. • The restaurant food was very good, but unfortunately the à la carte restaurants were almost always fully booked, even though they didn’t appear busy. Guests with day passes are likely to miss out on dinner due to how the restaurant hours are structured. 😕 The Not-So-Good: • The check-in process was slow and chaotic. I found myself waiting far too long each time I visited, with no clear communication and staff disappearing for long stretches without explanation. • The attitude of the staff, particularly some of the bellboys, was unhelpful and dismissive. When I stayed alone with my daughter, a staff member took one look at my luggage and suggested I carry it all upstairs myself — no offer of help at all. • My room had a broken shower and was not cleaned properly. Even worse, I found a cockroach in the bath and later in the bedroom. When I reported this, the response was indifferent. No apology, no urgency — just a general sense of “we don’t care.” I couldn’t sleep that night and honestly just wanted to leave. • While the hotel offered an extra hour in the room as compensation, it didn’t make up for the discomfort and lack of proper care. • The older rooms are quite outdated and need serious refurbishment, both in terms of decor and cleanliness. ⚠️ Final Thoughts: This hotel has some lovely features — great facilities, fun activities, and a nice setting. But unfortunately, the shockingly poor customer service and lack of attention to basic cleanliness overshadowed all of that for me. Staff often made me feel like I was inconveniencing them just by asking simple questions or requesting help. Management urgently needs to take feedback seriously and invest in improving both staff training and maintenance of the rooms. Until that happens, I would hesitate to recommend this hotel — especially for guests who expect good service as part of a relaxing experience.

Immaculate and very clean but attention needed in other areas
The bedroom was fine, I enjoyed the bed and jacuzzi bath tub, the Air conditioning needs servicing, and, electrical sockets need updating to accommodate British and European guests. Onto the food, not all the food was fresh some foods were repeated for Lunch and dinner and the next day, so the safest thing is to go to the chefs that are cooking food fresh for you, you cannot go wrong, Now onto the alcohol, the bar staff are great but the drinks are not, very cheap brand alcohol, quite shambolic for a hotel that charges a minimum of US$250 - £200gbp per night, minibar in room consists of soda, water & 2 Red stripes only, pool area is excellent but beach needs maintenance very Rocky and pebbles in the sea so stick to pool area.... overall a very clean hotel... immaculate... but for the reasons listed above makes this a four star, come on bahia grand you can do better than this, at least 60% of your staff are very welcoming and polite, up your game and the remaining 40% of staff will follow making you one of the best resorts in Runaway Bay......

Great time at Bahia Principe
I absolutely loved my experience. The staff was totally professional, accommodating and fun. The food was good at all the restaurants as well as the buffet. I purchased timeshare with them and do not regret it! I truly Can’t wait to return!!!

Visited May 29th-June 5th
We had a lovely stay. The resort is very big and lots to do. You will never get board. The buffet with the Jamaica dishes was very tasty. Ice cream is always runny and soft. The staff that looked after us in the buffet is excellent and my room cleaner was very nice. Overall I would go back but will have to walk with bug spray. The mosquitos were brutal in the rooms.

poor, but could be improved
I have been to Grand Bhai previously with Tui, I loved it last time this time was a let down. Whilst I had a refurbished room which look good - the toilet smelt real bad always, the shower head was leaking I have to take it of and reposition the washer, I spoke to reception and nobody came to sort it out. The was a lamp to the side of the bed when switch on fell out of the wall, it was just sitting in the gap. Many of the restaurants were closed or we were told they are fully booked but walking pass the were always half empty, when we did get a Al cate restaurant there was not enough staff to serve half a restaurant. The kids pool area is so dangerous, it looks very rusty and the flooring around the pool is marble effect which makes it very slippery, my grandson fell and banged his head twice within 45 mins, it really need a different type of flooring. We were expecting a nightclub on site which has now been closed down but still being advertised. The entertainment team were great with what they had to work with. Front desk team very rude, not helpful and waiting staff seemed very unbothered by anything, lots of shoulder shrugging going on.
