Used to love coming here, but now won't be coming back

This is my 4th time to this resort, though it's been 10 years since my last visit, and wow, what a difference. The resort is beautiful, but operations, service and general maintenance have gone way down. I'm halfway into my trip and am generally pretty frustrated with the service. This time I am travelling with my family, and we arrived late after a delayed flight, and discovered that the door on our room was broken, and had to wait another 20 minutes for a very kind bellhop to come back and get a key that would work with the door. We had asked for a king bed woth a cot but was given 2 double beds. We agreed to sort it out in the morning, and found that the shower head was broken, the tub wasn't cleaned, and there were no facecloths, hand soap, or general Toiletries in the room, and no blankets on the bed, just a sheet. We also found out the next day that we weren't given towel cards and our bracelets to get into our room wouldn't unlock the door. The next morning we asked for a blanket in the room from housekeeping, and was met with a ton of attitude from the woman saying she would try. We were travelling with our 2 year old and despite trying to turn down the A/C, the room was freezing. We visited front desk and asked for a room change, and they put us on a list, citing nothing was available. We asked if housekeeping could clean the tub (there were dirty patches in it and hair all in the drain) and bring a blanket, and she said she would have it done. That night when we went to sleep the room hadn't been touched, there were no blankets, but someone did come at almost 10pm to bring towels which we already had. On our third day we went to the front to check in on the room change status, and were finally able to switch, making sure to ask for a blanket, and she said she would bring one up herself after we got settled. We got to the new room and found no cot, there was hand soap and face clothes there which was great, but the AC was barely working and the fan in the room makes a terrible creaking noise while it's on, and the soap dispenser in the shower was empty. We again called the front desk that evening to ask about a blanket, and we were told they were all in the laundry. These things may seem trivial, but we saved up for this vacation and spent a lot of money on it, and we're so disappointed with the general service and responsivity for basic needs. Operationally, it seems like something is really missing. Buffets have no plates for extended periods of time, food isn't replenished to meet the demands of the busy hotel, and most of the customer service facing people seem miserable. Don't bother phoning front desk in the day; they won't answer, be cause I'm sure they are too busy. Each time.we had to go down to the front desk it was a 15-25 minute wait to talk to someone. There arent enough lounge chairs around the pool for a fraction of the people. Also, don't get scammed into spending your time with the privilege club sales seminar - they are misleading and deeply manipulative in their practices. We are 3 days in and still can't get a blanket, even though it's less needed now that the Air Conditioner doesn't really work in our new room. I was really excited to show my family this resort that I made so many memories in, but its just not worth the money for the frustration. Pros for balance: food is good when it's available, grounds are very pretty, kids water park is great (though the tiles are hot and slippery so be careful walking around it), raggae night on Sunday was a good show, but comparatively they used to have dance/theater shows nightly with a disco that was open, and it looks like it's just one night a week now for a live band. Cons: one of the beaches is very rocky, with big boulders in the water. It likely can't be helped because it's the ocean after all, but just know that. We will try the other beach by the kids waterpark and see if that's better. Obviously the service, maintenance and operational efforts are a con. Wifi wouldn't let us log on also. I heard that the previous owner passed away and the resort has been bought out by the Hyatt and will close for a year for renovations. Unfortunately a lot of this just feels like they have given up and have a pretty low standard for customer service and cleanliness/comfort.

    DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Check in took over an hour and they tried to initially tell us they couldn't find our reservation! There were no towels in our room for the first 7 hours until we finally went downstairs and threw a fit. The rooms and common areas could have been cleaner. Air conditioning in our room and the restaurants and the sports bar was extremely poor. Be prepared to sweat all day every day. The app never functioned properly! The a la carte restaurants were underwhelming. Staff extremely rude and dismissive of requests/complaints. Worst experience ever!

    Kids Club is the BEST!!!

We stayed at the Bahia Principe for 10 days, it was incredible! From morning to night we were well catered for, nothing was too much & the kids club is out of this world (I barely saw my almost 5 years old) shout out to, JoJo, DeeDee, Shanique, Brit & Nesi!! I have never felt more comfortable leaving my child with a group of people & he loved it, every morning he would ask what time kids club is, we had to peel him away, the activities they plan are great, their friendliness is contagious and we loved every one of them. Thankyou for making our stay so wonderful!

    Beautiful vacation in paradise!

We just came back from a 10 day vacation and we had an incredible time at this resort. I have no complaints at all. The people working there are so friendly and helpful. Whatever you need they help you with so you can enjoy your stay. I also loved how kind they were towards my children. Our room was lovely and close to all amenities. I loved that the pool, beach and kids water park are all close to each other. Not a far walk from anything. The food was fantastic. Lots of fresh meat, fish, seafood and everything tasted great. The bars were awesome. We tried so many different drinks and even asked for special creations which the bartenders happily made. The shows were great, kids entertainment was great. Pool and beach were perfect. The water was so clear and you can even see some fish. The service at the restaurants was excellent. I have no complaints and am so happy we chose this beautiful resort with everything it had to offer. Thank you for a lovely and memorable vacation!

    Horrible resort.

Worst resort ever, my family and I were at the resort and for three days after check in we had NO towels NO bath rags. Our shower was NOT draining well and clogged every time we had a shower. Our coffee maker was also broken upon arrival. We called numerous times to only be told someone would come and check on it and nobody did. Eventually we got towels on our third day of travel. Staff was rude and arrogant majority of the times. Again run from this resort DO NOT BOOK!
