Honest review
Our experience at Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica was just okay. We arrived at the hotel around 10 PM after a long day of traveling, with a 3-month-old baby and a 6-year-old in tow. Unfortunately, the check-in process was disappointing. No one assisted us to our room; instead, we were simply pointed toward a sign and left to find it ourselves. After such a tiring day, the least they could have done was help us get settled. The room itself was quite outdated, especially compared to the Bahia Principe branch in Tenerife, which we had visited previously. We had requested a queen bed, a fold-out bed, and a cot, but upon arrival, we found two double beds and no cot. Space became extremely limited once the cot was finally brought to the room. Additionally, the phones in our room were not operational for the first couple of days, making communication difficult. The buffet food was decent but lacked variety. Regarding à la carte dining, we visited four restaurants. The food was lovely overall, although at The Knife, it took nearly an hour to receive our mains. It was disappointing that we couldn’t experience some of the other restaurants because they did not allow guests under 18, which I found to be quite unfair. The main pool was decent, although the sun loungers could have been more comfortable. The fixed parasols offered limited shade, making it difficult to find relief from the sun. Drinks at the bar were also disappointing; on several occasions, ingredients for cocktails listed on the menu were unavailable. It was also noticeable that bartenders were more attentive to guests who tipped them. Another aspect worth mentioning is that the hotel offers day passes to locals. While it was lovely to meet and interact with local visitors, during the Easter weekend the resort became extremely overcrowded. There simply weren’t enough sun loungers for everyone, leading to people laying on the grass. It also made accessing the buffet at lunchtime difficult, as some of the day pass guests did not queue like the hotel guests, which created additional frustration. As for the kids’ club, my daughter absolutely loved it. However, there was an issue with the talent show—she missed her opportunity to perform because we were only informed about the event three hours before, and dinner conflicted with her scheduled slot. She was very upset, and earlier communication would have made a big difference. Another point to note was the airport transfer service, which we booked through the hotel’s website. We were a party of five—three adults, one child, and one baby. Upon arrival at the airport, the vehicle provided was too small for our group, but to their credit, they quickly arranged a larger one. However, the return transfer was poorly handled. Three days before departure, we went to confirm our pick-up and were informed that the driver would collect us at 6:10 PM, despite our flight being at 9:30 PM and the airport being an hour’s drive away. We requested an earlier pick-up time, but the representative told us to return the next day to complete a change form. When we returned the next day, a different representative questioned why we hadn’t completed the form earlier. We explained the situation and also requested a larger vehicle for our luggage and party size. Unfortunately, on the day of departure, a small vehicle arrived again, and we had to wait an additional 20–30 minutes for a larger one to be arranged. One highlight of our stay was Julie at Guest Services. She was an absolute star, helping us organize a birthday cake and candle for my daughter’s birthday, which made her day extra special. Lastly, the check-out process was confusing and not well explained, very different from what we’ve experienced at other hotels, which left us uncertain about the procedure.

Go elsewhere- no service and run down dirty property
Do not go. This resort is run down and hospitality is absent. People smoke cigarettes and pot freely throughout the resort grounds. Locals come in and have children filling large ziplock bags of food to take while there on day passes. Hard to get service throughout resort. Requests are required daily for things you shouldn’t have to ask for- toilet paper, coffee and room cleaning or other issues. Not good value for money- spend your money elsewhere.

Fun for families
Bahia Principe hotel shows its age. Food at the restaurants was excellent, food at the buffets was average. Pools were clean and fun for the children. Beaches were small with Pebbles. The hotel will be experiencing a makeover next year. Staff were excellent!

Wedding experience ruined. Awful customer service. You couldn't make it up
Where do I begin...... We booked here for our simple wedding celebration and family vacation. I had been to Bahia last year in Punta Cana at their Luxury Esmerelda resort and had an amazing time. So I thought this would be a safe bet. From the off, I should have realised it was not going to be the same... I wanted to book extra rooms, which I did via the main hotel group site. When contacting Bahia, they would say I needed to contact Booking.com as they could not view my original booking. After booking extra rooms, suddenly they could see my original booking and link everything. I had to cancel those rooms and again I was invisible.. If you book through a third party, they are most unhelpful even though you are visiting their hotel. On arrival, they gave us adjoining rooms. But the room for us, the main couple, was awful 22612 on the 6th floor, next to an elevator shaft, which the wind howled through. The room had a bare long corridor with a bed and table with two chairs squished into the top end. Neither the phone nor the tv was working.. it was nothing like the photos. It was just awful. Like the attic in a haunted mansion. There was no way I was staying in there. The other room was just like the image, so I couldn't understand why they would put us here... We went to reception and asked for a room change. They said the hotel was full and couldn't change us till the following day. I said I was not sleeping in that room. They then found a room. However, this room had two separate beds. Fair enough, it's only one night. We go to the wedding department to let them know where here. The person we deal with is not there on that day, so they ask us to come back the following day. Day 2 we go to weddings she says she didn't receive deposit payment confirmation. Hence why no one knew who we were the day before! We were not booked in for our ceremony. (I did email this!!!!!...) However, there are no more weddings on Wednesday (tomorrow) so we can be accommodated... They then rush us through to choose the flowers cake photo package. By now, I'm starting to come up in a stress rash. But I plough on through. After this, it's the second room change. The third room is good. So, at least we are now settled. The wedding ceremony itself was charming. After cutting the cake, they said they would bring the rest to the room. The cake never arrived, nor did they put any banner on the door. Just married, etc. Simple touches that help to make you feel special. The next morning, I emailed to say that the cake never arrived. I was told that it would be delivered today. That evening, there is still no cake. So I went to reception to enquire. The receptionist said the cake had been locked in a fridge in the weddings department, and no one had a key to the wedding department!!!! At this point, I said I wanted to speak to a manager. At first, I was told there was no manager on site. I said, "That's impossible. I've worked in hospitality, there's always a manager, I want to speak to a manager and if there's none here, get one." Another member of staff interviened and told me to wait he would see what he could do. Suddenly, a manager turns up Eleanor. She too feeds me the story about the cake being locked in weddings... But she resolves to find out what happend in the morning offering us a free couples massage, getting a "honeymoon" banner put on the door and giving my husband and I all access vip pass for he duration of our say. Nice, but my grandson is with us, and children are not allowed in the luxury areas. That's why we didn't book luxury to begin with. So the pass was useless. So the next morning, they confessed, the cake did not exist anymore as It was delivered to the WRONG room... I told you you couldn't make this up.!! They then said that they would have a new cake delivered that day... A cake dud arrive later that day, when we came ba k from an excursion a cake was waiting alongside a bittle of cava, but not even the same type of cake, this one was a dry victoria sponge. Our original cake was a moist vanilla cake. Oh, and they delivered no glasses, plates, forks, or knives with them. I went down to ask for the missing essentials and was told they would be delivered to the room. An hour later, still no one arrived. I then went to reception again and said "ill wait here, just have someone get the items and bring it here to me." I was told "No." They could not bring the items. She could not leave the desk, and I needed to return to the room. By this point, I was angry. My voice raised, and the tears started flowing. I couldn't believe I was crying over a cake that by now, I wasn't even interested in as the moment had been ruined and stamed on days ago. But I could not hide any longer how upset I was over how they had treated us from start to finish. It was a horrible experience. I had given up on hoping for them to do better and, quite frankly, was just ready to go home. The whole thing was an utter nightmare. The chap who interviened last time Damien came over as he could see how devastated I was at the whole experience and went to get the items and hand them to me as the receptionist was still ignoring me. She was the same kne who lied about the cake the night before... Let me reiterate that the only reason I booked this resort was because we had an amazing experience the year before in Esmerelda. But I did notice that when I told others I was going to the Grand in Jamaica, they did not seem to share my enthusiasm. Now I know why!!!! Honestly, it did not seem like the two hotels were of the same brand. The staff are rude and incompetent and just tell lies, anything to get you to go away. It's ridiculous. Some of the rooms are embarrassingly awful. Taps from showers come off in your hands, and on the top floor, large pools of water form when the rain falls. Outside room 22612 and my daughter saw cockraches in her room 22613. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that there were cockroaches in the "Takara" restaurant. I have photos two alive and one I squished as it headed towards me. This hotel needs locking down, staff retraining, and some pest control hired. The hotel and staff are not fit for purpose. Bahia Principe, you managed to ruin what should have been a truly special time in my life. It was an absolute failure from start to finish. Your brands reputation is in tatters with a resort like this in your portfolio. I was going to book for your Tenerife resort for December/Jan 25/26. I shall look elsewhere for accommodation. I would not advise anyone to book a holiday at Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica unless you want to have your vacation/ event ruined. Wendy 💫
