Oct 18, 2026Good, but definitely not great
This was our first time to this particular resort, but we have been to Playa many times. First off the property is huge and to really see the whole thing you need to hitch a ride on a golf cart, which are very easy to flag down. Property seemed very well maintained, clean and overall naturally beautiful. The property was basically built in a mangrove swamp so there are lots of canals, bridges and boardwalks over and through existing mangroves…which is cool and unique. Rooms are adequate but honestly a little tired. The room we had was a ground floor poolside suite, which is a little misleading since it’s not really poolside. The building itself is close to the pool, but in no way shape or form would I consider it poolside. Biggest complaint about the room was the mold/mildew smell. We had maintenance come clean the coils, and got a dehumidifier but the smell persisted. I understand it’s the tropics, but we’ve never run into this issue before at any other properties down here. One more issue we had was bugs. Yes we are aware of the location and bugs are just an unavoidable thing here sometimes but again, have never had bug issues at other resorts in the area. We had our room fumigated once, found a bug in the sheets that night, had our room fumigated once more and that seemed to do the trick. The pool scene is nice, there are a number of different options for pools, and none of them seemed overly crowded. The beach scene is a little different since the sargassum has pretty much invaded all of this area of Mexico and the Caribbean…so that’s not really something that can be avoided. Also note that TRS does not really have a beach, if you want to sit on a beach you have to walk down to the adjoining property. Staff were all great and extremely helpful and kind. Spa was good, but could probably use an update. Food was pretty mediocre at both buffet and sit down restaurants. Liquor selection at TRS was great, but if you ventured to the other adjoining properties, the selection dwindled. Check out and transportation from our room to the lobby was disappointing. We asked for a golf cart transportation for us and our luggage to the lobby. The porter came early so we asked him to give us a few minutes, which he kindly agreed to…after a few minutes, we walked outside with our luggage and the guy had left, so we ended up trekking it with our luggage. Again not a huge deal, but disappointing. Overall, good not great.

Our trip overall was good but as members of their Travel Group we excepted more for our group. We didn’t have a butler for the first 3 days of our stay. Once we got one he was great! We use to get discounts on the Chic Show but not this time, very disappointing.

Celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary ❤️
My husband and I have been travel club members for over 12 years. We have seen many beautiful properties as we’ve traveled, but what keeps us coming back to Palladium Riviera Maya is the amazing hospitality and service we receive from the service staff! Starting with Ernesto at the beach club who was one of the first servers we met over 12 years ago who always greets us like family that are visiting his home! He creates me my own special mocktails every time I come and makes sure we lack nothing while we’re hanging out at the beach club , to Armando who kept our room clean all week at TRS villa 69, Raul at La Dahlia and Hacienda buffet who gave us superb service at breakfast and lunch and the TRS Helios waiters Martha, Caesar (Horacio), Daniel and Magdalena who made us feel like we were the most important people there. They are all who keep us coming back year after year! They are what makes your resort super special to us! Palladium would not be the same without them!!
