Just my review
( Just would like everyone going down to this resort know that the rooms closest to the lobby and buffet are terrible ,,we had water seeping in our room from air conditioning and there is mold in the bathrooms I mean a lot and the shower glass wasn’t ever cleaned had to do it myself , we had no hot water for about three days and when we had it it was just warm .one of our friends got sick with what we think was food poisoning ,he was so sick he was in bed for 31 hours and the last day I had bacon and got desperately sick…I mean so sick they asked me at the airport if I needed a doctor I said no I just want to go home… the food was terrible I really terrible,,,you even had to ask for bacon which I wish I didn’t .the rooms are run down and dirty..I shall never return there,,we were a group of six and shall never I mean never go to this place , I’ve been travelling down south for at least 17 years and even Cuba has never been this awful ..just be aware and read all reviews ..everything is decent was either for vip or members only couldn’t even get French fries or ice cream .there no place for children or seniors to go in swimming at the beach because the waves were so powerful..there are no chairs at the beach ,what little beach that was there.. I’m glad to be home

Sub-standard room
We didn’t have water in our shower until Thursday (2/5). There was only a trickle of warm water coming out of the sink. There were no chairs or luggage racks in the room. We are two older ladies having to work out of our suitcases on the floor. There was a broken down cabinet there but there was no way we would put any of our clothes in it. They did give us white bath cloths but the towels (both hand &bath) which had once been white were a tattered dingy gray color. The telephone didn’t work. The sliding glass doors didn’t lock. Which did not make us feel very safe. There was a big crack in the glass at the shower. It was cold the first couple of nights and there was no heat. The employees were nice and very helpful. It could have been a nice vacation had the room not been so bad.

The resort is huge and difficult to get around, They do provide shuttles,
The rooms at the Tropical are in serious need of repair and upgrades, the bathrooms are super tiny Poor plumbing, Please be aware before you book.

Amazing Experience - Would go back !
Our trip to Puerto Plata instantly improved when we switched from Cofresi to El Tropical. From the moment we arrived, the difference was clear. The resort is beautiful, well maintained, and exceptionally clean. The beach is spotless, and the Blue Lagoon restaurant offers amazing food. The entertainment staff is outstanding — a special thank you to John and Ricardo, who truly made our stay more enjoyable. We encountered one minor issue in our room, and it was fixed immediately, which speaks volumes about their responsiveness and professionalism. The buffet offers themed dinners, so the food selection changes regularly and stays interesting. Our room was perfect and very clean, and it was obvious that El Tropical holds its maintenance and room service teams to high standards. Every minute at El Tropical was fun, relaxing, and stress‑free. We would absolutely return and highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Puerto Plata.

The Good, Bad, Ugly
Alot of stairs to get to ocean, and no chairs down their. Lack of sunshade in pool areas, staff always harassing to sell stuff, most staff at buffet were good, rooms aren't great we had black mold in our bathroom,if you don't tip you get crappy service. This is the worse resort I have ever been too. Pool in adults area was broken too and they never refill beer or pop in your fridge , I asked several times and nothing. The pictures are deceiving. Mexican restaurant was amazing food.
