  Worst Hotel in Cancun

  The RIU chain has turned out to be the worst “5 star” hotel chain my family has ever vacationed with. This hotel was a complete scam and disappointment, and I hope my review will help others not to ruin their own vacations. From the first day, our experience RIU Palace Peninsula was atrocious. Day one arriving to the airport, the hotel refused to offer the “complimentary shuttle” from the airport since our booking was through Expedia. After finding other means of transportation and arriving to the hotel, we were forced to argue and wait for over 6 hours at the front desk because of a “booking error.” The hotel blamed Expedia, and Expedia blamed the hotel, but they together could not resolve whatever error they were making up. Finally, after being fed up, we had requested to just cancel the entire reservation so that we can move to a new resort. The hotel refused to cancel the reservation and told Expedia that we had already checked in, even though they are refusing to give us our keys unless we paid an additional $3000 upfront (after already having paid $7000 for two rooms). We were forced to pay the additional amount so that the family could just go into the property. Once checked in, we were hit with another round of threats. You lose the bracelet? $150. You lose a towel card? $300. Rodrigo, the representative at check-in, was extremely unhelpful and scammy too. Put our room right above the entertainment stage so it was loud every single night and the kids couldn’t sleep. He didn’t provide us a property map, information on dining or pool hours, and his English was very poor for a 5 star hotel. Then - the $850 resort credit promised with each room was found to be a scam too. This is not credit, but rather $850 in random bs coupons that the average person will not use (such as discount on a wedding package). Don’t get me started on the poor room quality. Tiny uncomfortable beds, mold in the tub, old drinks in the minibar, rusted balcony door, and sand and hair still on the floors. Toilets don’t work and plumber had to be called multiple times throughout the stay. The food was also disgusting. The bulk of what you pay for at an all-inclusive is food and drink. Horrible food quality. Beverages tasted like warm plastic, buffet and restaurants extremely unhygienic. Children licking food and putting it back in the food areas, items constantly mixed together, and nothing was labeled anywhere. Majority of service staff were unfriendly and overworked. The hotel also allowed for grifters to hassle you on their “private” beach. People constantly coming and trying to sell bracelets, massages, food, etc. So much for a relaxing beach day. My advice? Try the Hilton. RIU service and quality is the worst. Would give 0 stars if possible.

  Awesome vibes

  Second time here in Cancun first time In riu peninsula hands down once again if your down to party this is the hotel for you great food great vibes and definitely isn't my last time it's calm most time but remember this is the main hotel all the parties happen at music dosnt bother because of where it's located come by to riu and enjoy thank me later

  Great stay xx

  Stayed for 10th anniversary after staying on our honeymoon. Service, cleanliness and food was still excellent as well as poolside entertainment. Few minor problems in our room with jacuzzi, shower etc which were rectified immediately

  Worth it

  This Riu Hotel is BEAUTIFUL. The room was very clean and all the staff was amazing from the lobby to the housekeeping staff and everyone else in between. There were plenty things to do, different food options and drinks all the time. Our room had a great ocean view. Even the other guests were friendly. My only con was the bed was a little on the firmer side...for me. Not a deal breaker and I would go there again. I would recommend 10/10!
