    Birthday Celebration

Overall, the resort is excellent. We were very well taken care of especially by Jose at the Market Cafe. He saw that my husband had troubles with his knees and went out of the way to accomodate us. We did notice that the resort is not very well suited for folks with mobility issues. All of the chairs are low - beach, pool, balcony etc. It makes if very difficult to get up out of the chairs if you have an issue.

    Disappointed

My wife and I checked into this resort hoping to spend some quality time together, but it turned out to be a complete disappointment. At check-in, we were offered a $100 per night “Preferred” upgrade, which supposedly included a better room, access to a few extra amenities, and a spa offer (a 25-minute hand massage). None of this felt worthwhile. From the moment we arrived, the entire hotel smelled like sewage or stagnant water—completely different from other Cancun hotels we have stayed at. The room layout is poorly designed. There is very little soundproofing, so any conversation or footsteps in the hallway echoed loudly inside the room. There is no real barrier between the entrance door and the bed area, making it impossible to escape hallway noise—imagine people laughing loudly right outside your bed. On top of that, the sewage smell was also present inside the room. We noticed that the bathroom floor was constantly wet, as if the toilet or plumbing was leaking. As part of the “Preferred” upgrade, we were assigned a butler, but we barely saw or interacted with them, making that feature essentially meaningless. The food at the so-called “fancy” restaurants was another letdown. Portions were extremely small—for example, shrimp dishes had tiny, almost millimeter-sized pieces. For an adults-only resort, the atmosphere was also poorly managed. One guest was visibly drunk all day, every day, and constantly using offensive language. We never saw any hotel staff intervene or attempt to calm the situation. The most frustrating experience, however, was the spa. A couples massage was initially priced at $260 per person for 50 minutes, which we found outrageously expensive and decided to decline. For comparison, we’ve had couples massages in the U.S. for around $110 per person, including a choice of oils. Later, a spa representative approached us in the lobby and offered a “deal” at $175 per person, which we negotiated down to $140 each. Once the session started, we were told that choosing an oil would cost an additional $20 per person, something that was never clearly explained beforehand. We declined, believing it should have been included at that price point. The oil they used instead was not smooth and actually seemed to make the massage more difficult for the therapists. After the massage, we were rushed through the sauna and steam areas with unnecessary instructions on how to alternate between the sauna, steam room, and hot tub—despite the fact that we are very familiar with these facilities and did not need guidance. The entire experience felt rushed, overpriced, and poorly managed. Overall, we felt that we wasted our money at this resort. Unfortunately, I do not recommend this hotel.

    WOW

I was skeptical at first. It had been a long time since I had stayed in the hotel zone. Well, it was nothing like I remember. The hotel itself is very nice, but I never felt it to be uncomfortable as in too upscale. The service was tremendous. Each floor has a personal butler to take care of all your needs. Ours was Oscar and he was outstanding. He never pestered you but was always there when you needed him and he made sure everything was going as planned. I cannot say enough about the food! This was not resort food this was 5 star restaurant food. We ate at the Asian restaurant 3 times!!! The sushi was out of this world! The waiter Jorge made it even more special as he was fantastic. Italian was also as good with a wood fired pizza and lasagna, I would kill for to get in the states. Steak house equally as good. The pools were very nice. No swim up bars but the service was great, so you never had to go without a drink. Every day they cooked something fresh in the pool area that was fantastic. They even carted in a fresh tuna, cut it up and made sushi poolside as well as fresh grilled tuna. I would go back in a heartbeat if the chance arose!

Our Home Away From Home in Paradise

We returned from our fourth stay at Secrets the Vine, Cancún in August 2025, and once again, it was absolute heaven. We usually stay for 10 nights, and each visit to date has been wonderful. We stay in a Preferred Club Deluxe Ocean View Room which grants us access to the preferred pool area. This is our favourite pool as it is peaceful and perfect for relaxation. The lively pools are great, but not for me. I prefer to read a book while being served Pina Coladas at my sunbed. Having stayed in many All Inclusive Hotels in the area over the last 20 years, I feel we have a good level of comparison, and we find the restaurants in STV to be of a high standard. The food is always fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented. We highly recommend the wonderful service by Manuel in Bluewater Grill, and Juan in Dragons. But our absolute favourite is Olio where we were treated wonderfully at every meal. From the manager, Esteban, who personally checked in with us at each meal, to the hostess Yazmin, who always sat us at our favourite table with the wonderful views of the Caribbean, to the amazing wait staff of William, Rosa and Victor. I love how William remembered my preference for iced green juice served in a cocktail glass every morning without me ever having to ask! The service was always so personal, and every dish (and drink!) was fresh and delicious. The only area where we felt there was room for improvement was the butler service, or if I’m honest, the lack of butlers, rather that the quality of service itself. It didn’t feel as attentive as we’ve experienced during previous stays. This may be due to a reduction in staffing, as we noticed that the number of butlers had decreased from two per floor per day to one, with no visible cover on days off. We did notice the butler desk on our floor unmanned many times during our stay. That said, this was our only negative comment in an otherwise exceptional holiday and did not detract from our overall enjoyment. After four wonderful stays, we can confidently say that Secrets The Vine has become our home away from home and we are now counting the days (and our pennies) until our next trip!

A good time in Secrets Cancun

We found the people who worked there friendly and helpful. The food was generally excellent if often served after it had sat out for a while. The choice of food was excellent although I would have liked more types of fish. The rooms are quiet and clean. The gym has a great variety of machines that all worked. Our biggest complaint was the constant upselling at meals for wines etc. that were extra cost. This should not happen in an all inclusive. Oh, and they tried to get us to buy into their version of a hotel timeshare scam.
