Could have been better...
The staff were all very helpful, pleasant and willing to help us with anything. We were very happy with the number of english speakers, as our spanish is beginner level. The room was neat, clean and well looked after by kind and caring workers. You will have any need looked after! The resort itself is showing its age in places. Walls are cracking, baseboards too. Upgrades are really needed. The views are exceptional! The weather was VERY hot (37, 38, 39 C every day) with high humidity. If you do not like humid, don't go to Huatulco at this time of year! Sadly the food was nowhere near up to our expectations. Most was lukewarm at best, and of very average quality. My GF is Celiac, and therefore we required a place that had gluten-free options. That was what Secrets was advertised to have, and a big reason why we chose it over other resorts. However most of their restaurants had (at most) 1 option, and it was of poor quality.

Does Not Live Up To Secrets Reputation
My wife & I have stayed at a dozen AI's on both coasts and enjoyed them all. This is the first time I can say we were truly disappointed We booked a preferred swim out suite & were placed in building one at the top of the hill, as far away from the pool & beach as possible. I don't see how you'd call that preferred. We were able to change but had to pack up & move 3 days in. I should mention that after check in we had to sit with two different people trying to upsell us on dinner & spa packages as well as the usual great freebies if you sit through the time share hard sell. This was all before we could even get to our room. Dinner reservations weren't required which was nice but half the restaurants were closed on any given night. We were told it's because we were at the end of high season. The booking price certainly didn't reflect this. The food in general was not what I expected from a resort of this caliber. The Mexican buffet was bland, the bbq buffet had more variety but was repeated on successive nights in a different location. The Asian restaurant used fettucini noodles for chow mein & Mongolian beef. The main buffet was not open for dinner. Castaways & Cin Cin were the only restaurants worth a second trip. This is the first time I've ever been sick at a Mexican AI. Once after eating at the Asian restaurant & once after the first bbq buffet. We never ate off site all week so it's not hard to nail down the source. Nightly entertainment was about middle of the road compared to other resorts. The room itself was nice enough but nothing to write home about. The grounds were clean & groomed. The buildings showed external cracks, the pools were missing multiple tiles. It seemed as though only one of the three main elevators was operating at any given time. Overall it gave the impression of an aging property in need of maintenance. Housekeeping, room service & pool service were about the only bright spots. Staff were helpful & prompt. Compared to my personal standards when it comes to AI's this one comes in at the bottom. I was excited to try a Secrets resort for the first time. Their reputation has always been top notch, high end luxury. If this is a true reflection of their acceptable standard then I can honestly say I'll never stay at another. We really didn't notice any particular benefit to paying up for preferred status. While it's hard to complain about taking a tropical vacation this one failed to meet expectation. In fact I'd call it a colossal let down.

With Thanks and Gratitude
We spent 9 blissful days at the incredible Secrets Hualtuco. We enjoyed the hospitality of the friendly, always joyful team in multiple ares of the resort. We especially enjoyed our delectable breakfasts overlooking the bay at Castaways with our amigos Carlos, Heidi, Gaby, Stefany, Ruben, Guadalupe, Daniela, Gloria, Ivonne, Rodrigo and Mirelly. From perfectly prepared lattes by Mathilde in Coco's Cafe to fresh papaya fruit bowls with our authentic Mexican breakfast experiences we are heading home to Canada with full hearts. We visited the spa for an immersive hydrotherapy and deluxe relaxation experience with couples massage, facials and treatment provided by our amigo Ezequiel and other incredible practioners. We visited the health centre daily and were always greeted with a smile and a visit with Obed and his team. The resonating sentiment around the resort from all the team is "It's my pleasure" and they authentically deliver a wholehearted experience. We stayed in a swim-up suite which was absolutely delightful and received extraordinary service from our poolside concierge, Ricardo. We feel so elated to share our experience and will have fond, heartfelt memories 💖 from our 9 days in perfecto Paradiso. Muchas Gracias to all the team at Secrets Hualtuco. Until next time, your friends Suzannah and Roberto

You will be absolutely spoiled
Beautiful resort, outstanding views, and delicious food. But what stood out the most was the staff! David, the maître d' of Cin Cin who made our dining experiences and our stay magical. Nathaly, the buffet hostess who remembered our preferences and brightened our mornings, Carlos from the Marlin pool bar, the bell boy who went out of his way to help us figure out what happened to our shuttle. All the serving staff who went out of their way to accommodate food allergies.

First time visit!
Big thank you to all the staff at Secrets Huatulco! Special mention to Alejandro, awesome tennis lesson and water aerobics! Amir and Ximena were also a great addition to the entertainment team. The hostess at the buffet were awesome and always remembered us!
