  Good hotel, but worker deliberatey damaged by passport at reception because he was wrong.

  Great hotel , good food, amazing facilities had a great time and recommended the hotel. The only thing I dont recommend is having to deal with Dennis. After my friend who made the booking for us months earlier was sick and had miss our tour and go straight to our new hotel i came later to meet my friend in the lobby and check in. Dennis wouldn't allow me through security because after telling him the correct name the 2 rooms were booked under and what we booked on he said it was only 1 room ( this was a lie or just beyond me how he wasn't knowledable enough with the system to tell if it was 1 or 2 rooms. Finally hr miraculously worked out it was 2 rooms booked but insisted my friend booked 2 rooms for himself only. Why anyone would do this is beyond me at an all inclusive resort. Thankfully after managing to speak to another woman on the phone at the security gate she was able understand that 2 rooms were booked and probably not for 1 person. Then at the check in desk I was unfortunate enough to encounter Dennis again who after more frustration because he couldnt search a booking by the name and who it was through he deliberatey used his thump to bend in and attempt to damage the photo page of my passport which I have never seen any other hotel worker do before. I immediately took it back and managed to straighten it out. But you can where he has done it on the edges still. Be wary of having to deal with him and ask for anyone else if you can. Know this man is also a liar and will damage your things when you prove him wrong. Absolutely should not have a job in a hotel Other than that good hotel, and worth the stay

  Disappointed

  My Husband and I chose to come here for our Honeymoon, as we had previously stayed at the Palace Macau in Punta Cana, as this was beautiful. ( no rooms available there) Riu Republica was described as 5*, and although it looked like a larger hotel, the description still appeared to be high quality, which we hoped for, as it was a special occasion. We read that the Hotel was great if you liked to party: we are young at heart, and enjoy a good time, but this was crazy! (frequent loud, shouting/screaming in the early hours. Food discarded in the communal areas/stairs from the night before) The Hotel is ENORMOUS! Beautiful grounds, and the initial impression is good. Rooms: large and clean, but in need of lots of tlc. Mini bar included. Of the 3 plug sockets in the room, only 1 worked adequately. Restaurants: 2 buffet : lots of choice, but average. The Speciality restaurants weren't, in our opinion, any different than the buffet food. Both myself and my Husband became ill with sickness and diarrhoea.. we don't have any known cause of this, but we had spoken to other guests who had also been ill. We are very careful what we eat. Lovely position on the gorgeous beach, plenty of pools. We managed to find a quieter pool, which suited us better. Staff are very friendly, but it did seem that tips were expected. In conclusion, we feel that the Hotel is far too big, and feels uncontrolled. Security are nowhere to be seen to control any anti social behaviour. Although there is a mixture of ages, there are predominently young people getting very drunk for most of the day and night; one young man had collapsed outside our door ( we made sure he was ok - too much alcohol) The Hotel needs to be downgraded to 3* in our opinion, after having stayed at the Palace Macau, which cost a similar amount, but was far superior. We won't be returning.

  Rubbish hotel . POOR FOOD . DO NOT GO

  Was awful . Food always cold and me and husband were sick . Entertainment wasnt great either . You couldn’t swim in the sea as always red flag . We moved down the coast to Bahia romana was absolutely beautiful . Food was amazing and we had a fantastic week , thank god we moved

  If you like to have a good time and aren't expecting a 5 star resort you'll love it here.

  Just returned from a week long solo trip and had a blast! I only ate at the buffet as I didn't want a set time to eat. I thought the food was great, always fresh and a good variety. The nightly stage parties at the resort, and RIU Parties at the RIU Party complex were all great. I mostly drink beer and stuck with that at the resort. The few mixed drinks I had were good and strong. It definitely wasn't as easy as I hoped meeting people being a guy (haha) with most people already having "their group of friends" but met 3 different groups of people and a couple solo travelers throughout the trip after people loosened up later in the day/night. The beach was great with no seagrass while I was there with plenty of chairs. I stayed on the top floor in room 4057 with an ocean view (mostly blocked by the tall palm trees) in front of the party pool. I could barely hear any nose from the partying with the balcony door shut. AC in room worked great and I never saw any bugs in the room except a couple nat looking things (that probably traveled in with me from outside or having the balcony door open) but that's expected on a tropical trip. I did however see 2 roaches in the hallway while walking on the first floor. My only real thing I have to gripe about is the elevator situation. The elevator by my room was getting completely replaced. I had to use the elevator on the opposite side of my room. By the 3rd night it quit working. But that was from someone literally kicking the steel door and caving it in as I clearly found out while walking the stairs down and saw the damage. Luckily there was still another elevator on the other side to use which was the furthest one from my room. I've traveled to 10 or so different Caribbean islands/resorts all being 3 or 4 stars. This riu was no different if you're not expecting a top notch 5+ star resort. You'll definitely have a good time if you like dancing, drinking, a nice beach, and a party atmosphere

  A So-So trip

  At the beginning of the week everything seemed great but as the week went on the service became slack. Rooms were not made up regularly. Vomit in the lobby not cleaned up, bathrooms in public areas with doors that don’t lock. Transfers to different RIU hotels were supposed to go every 20 mins and after waiting over an hour we complained and had to wait an additional 10 mins for a 7 min drive. At the Breakfast buffet, the servers were just standing around and didn’t ask if you wanted coffee and you had to flag them down to get any type of response. We booked a deep sea fishing trip- paid in full- got up and waited in the lobby at 6:45 am for the pick up at 7:10am. And they never showed up. They never gave us any email or any notification of the cancellation. We were told we would be reimbursed in 10 days- I’m not sure if it will even happen. We paid for a late checkout as our flight to Canada was not to depart until 11:15 pm and we had a day around the pool only to return to our hotel room to find out they had deactivated our keys- ugh so we had to go back down to the lobby to complain to get our room key reactivated. Such a hassle. I think we will go back to the Bahia Hotels.
