Don't go here
for 2 days to get a soft pillows. Used app, phones not answered. Toilet sprayed water all over floor, dresser drawers stuck, had to push/pull REALLY hard to open and close. Same with closet door and table between beds. Blankets rough. Went to front desk for resolution, no help. Went to manager the next morning and said I wanted to wait there til I got pillow. He wouldn't let me. I said "I just want a Dann pillow and have been waiting since yesterday" . He said I didnt have to swear at him. I said I don't really think dawn is swearing. He said he didn't have to talk to me and was very rude. Food SUCKED!! Drinks had like 1/2 shot per drink. Pools beautiful but getting towels traded out was major hassel. Not open certain times, but no signs saying when they were open. Got ripped off by shop near by an excursion (charged ny card $526 US instead of $59 US) and wanted to report to police. They told me I could take a taxi to police station but that nobody speaks English at police station, so it probably wouldn't do any good. TERRIBLE SERVICE

Rude personal, a cockroach in one of the buffet areas
I am extremely dissatisfied with my stay and the overall experience. The hotel itself is old, although generally clean. However, many things in our room were not working properly, including a power outlet, the hair dryer, and the bathroom door. From the beginning of our stay, renovation work was taking place on the exterior doors, creating constant noise and making it impossible to rest. Later, all the exterior doors were painted, and the smell was overwhelming and unbearable. It caused me a severe headache. When we went to the front desk, the receptionist was not informed and had to run to the office to ask the manager after every question. Because I refused to stay overnight in such conditions, we were moved to another room on the first floor, which smelled strongly of mold and swampy lake water. I returned to the reception and asked to speak with the manager, who behaved very unprofessionally and even laughed at us in a demonstrative way. After almost two hours of arguments, we were finally given a normal room — without any apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Additionally, when I later asked for water, I was refused, which felt like retaliation for the earlier incident. Overall, it seemed that if you want basic comfort or proper service, you are expected to pay extra, even though everything was already paid for. To make matters worse, I personally saw a cockroach in one of the buffet areas, which is completely unacceptable. Also, cocktails at the bar were mostly ice — about 80% — and the quality noticeably improved only if you left a tip. Without tipping, the drinks were poorly made and disappointing. Overall, this was a very unpleasant experience, marked by poor management, misleading information, and a lack of basic respect for guests. I would not recommend this hotel or its services.

Cons outweigh the pros, but we had a pretty good time.
My husband and I went to Hotel Riu Republica for our honeymoon for the past week. I made a list of pros and cons to get straight to the point, but overall, we did have a nice time for it being our first time out of the country. Pros: - Gorgeous areas, nice staff, and strong drinks. - Pools and beach area were cleaned every day, along with all the tables and bars. - Booking transfers and excursions through the hotel were very easy and user friendly. - The Steakhouse and Jerk Chicken were the best food on site. Cons: - Reservation times for the steakhouse are BERY unclear and it makes it hard to be seated. - The drinking age in the DR is 18, so if you are on the pool side near the beach, be prepared to have kids invading your space with their own speakers and volume. - Kaori (the Asian buffet) made us sick. Not quite food poisoning, but sure came in a close second. - Mold smell and mosquitos are everywhere. - Hotel needs a lot of upgrading. The elevators barely worked while we were there and we woke up without power on our first night. Overall, it was a great experience, and we would love to go to the DR again, but we might go to a different hotel the next time. Although, I never found any bed bugs, roaches, mice, etc. it was a very generally clean place.
