This was our third time visiting. We have enjoyed our time a lot! Our stay was particularly made special by kind efforts and service of staff at the main restaurant: Francisco, Margarita, Emilia, Azucena and of course Saul who are always there with a kind smile for guests! Kids club staff also made the kids time fun and special: With special thanks going to staff there: Guillermo and Ana and Kasanadra and Itzamary and Adriana, and Montse and Angel! Evening events were especially cool and creative! Loved the movie party at the lobby with popcorn and cakes!! Maria at the Guest Services has been an instrumental and amazing help with our stay!!! Thank you! Also thanks goes to Lizbeth there for helping us! Additional thanks goes to lifeguards who do a great job keeping an eye on guests and are really attentive especially in the kids club. Thank you! I give a five star review but also wanted to make a couple of suggestions below on the things that could be addressed. - carts could run on a better schedule and maybe more carts are needed for the resort, it would be easier to get around in the heat - a few reviews mention it as well: there are issues with labeling at the buffet, most missing or inaccurate, I saw that staff was working to address and label them properly but still it could be improved. Otherwise we were happy and grateful!!! Thank you!

Mexico, mayans, you've been a pleasure to visit, wholesome and unforgettable.
As a hotel complex spanning many kilometers, WOW! Simply put one of the nicest, friendliest, cleanest complexes I have ever stayed at. Staff members created a welcoming, helpful and comfortable atmosphere. Room we picked was the twin room, brilliant. Spacious, clean and over looked a well maintained garden area, block 7. Hotel blocks are often loud, but pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was and free from door bangs and flushing noises. Housekeeping staff are polite and courteous, and the coffee in the rooms is some of the best i've had. Expeditions teams and associated companies were faultless, managed to get 2 paid trips and a freebie, cenotes and chichen itza, swimming with turtles and another cenote, then a catamaran cruise with reef swimming. Personally not a fan of sailing, but what a magical experience. Hosts on the trips we're amazing and a credit to the high standards of the hotel and experiences available. The grill house, what an experience, foodies heaven. Tapenyaki bar, never been before, highly recommended, amazing show and food to die for! Pools always clean, entertainment through out the day was fantastic. Beach seaweed was a tiny issue, but the volunteers clearing it were doing a brilliant job and keeping on top of it. Being able to see baby turtles in natural habitat, and the care taken by the clean up crews, beach lifeguards and ecologists is eye opening and educational. The mayan natives around some of the tours are amazing when treated with dignity and respect. We'd heard horror stories of how tourists had treated some like spectacles, demanding access to their homes to see how they lived and snapping cameras in their faces and not respecting the local customs, such a shame as their customs are an honour to be witness to.

Not what we expected.
We were in a queue of five couples at check-in and queued for 30 minutes to be attended to. We were then asked to sign the screen on a tablet with no explanation given as to what we were signing for. We were given no information about the facilities or the layout of the complex. There's a QR code on the key wallet you're provided with, which will give you some limited info and show a basic plan but we had to figure that out for ourselves, and unless you're prepared to spend a fortune on mobile data, you'll need to request the WiFi password to access the QR code, because it won't be offered. All accommodation is in "villas," which are 3 story blocks with no lifts, I'm a pensioner and my wife has a chest condition. We were allocated the top floor, and at times, it was a struggle to climb the stairs in the heat. There were no other rooms available, allegedly. The room itself was large with a king-sized bed and a sofa. The pillows are smaller than those that most Europeans would be familiar with. There was also a small table and a couple of chairs and a small fridge which was restocked daily. There was a filter coffee drippy type thingy with one bag of coffee provided daily. The drippy thing provided enough for two cups of weak, tasteless coffee, and there was no milk (not even long life stuff) but only creamer. Obviously catering to the Americans rather than the British. Two teabags were provided, one camomile and one English breakfast tea, and surprisingly, neither of them were Liptons. The inclusion of the teabags is a rather pointless exercise however, because there's no kettle to boil the water, and the useless drippy coffee thing wouldn't get the job done. Thankfully, I don't feel the need to drink tea. I'm not yet old enough. The decor and furnishings were shabby, and whilst initially appearing to be clean, it became apparent that the cleaning was superficial. Walking in barefeet meant they needed to be washed, and that was immediately after showering. when the bathroom mirror steamed up, it revealed someone's previous drawing on the mirror. The top of the rainfall shower head was thick with grease and grime. There was no grid on the wash basin drain, so small items could easily disappear. Fresh towels are provided every day. Shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner are provided, but weirdly, they are wall mounted at standing shoulder height, making them difficult to access when using the shower and impossible to reach when sitting in the bath. The buffet restaurant is pretty much the same as any other all inclusive buffet with a lot of repetition and a lack of labelling, which is reminiscent of Forrest Gump's box of chocolates There is a Mexican selection every evening, but it's not my idea of Mexican food. For example, the chilli beans had no chilli, which was in a separate location. Incidentally, there are several "a la carte" restaurants available to book, but you'll need to do it before you arrive. Otherwise, there'll be no availability. But don't bother with the Mexican one. They offer little more than the main restaurant and its self-service buffet as well. Avoid the cereal at breakfast time. It's in the "kids' corner" for obvious reasons. What looks like cornflakes is actually a vastly oversweetened version of Frosties, ditto the "cocoa pops." I didn't attempt the third offering, the brightly coloured e numbers so beloved of our American cousins. The pool area is reasonably attractive, and the pool water is surprisingly warm and a very pleasant experience. But, there is an excess of white concrete that doesn't combine well with the bright sunshine and creates a lot of glare. As well as the poolside bar there is a self service soft drinks bar which is restocked in time for the 10.30 opening time but rapidly runs out of cups which aren't replenished. For the most part, the pool area was relaxing, apart from Sunday when the entertainments team was literally blasting music across the whole area with the bass levels at absolute maximum and creating a very uncomfortable environment from which there was actually no escape. The bass vibrations carried across the whole complex.

Nightmare experience at this resort
The air conditioning in room was terrible so they made me pay more to upgrade. Air conditioning in common areas like buffett dining is also poor. Lots of scary large lizards or iguanas roaming freely around the room. Food is below average. Room quality was not even up to 3 star hotel standard. They pretty much ruined outer vacation with the rude attitude of check-in staff. Made us ait very long time to get us a room when we were already exhausted from flight and shuttle bus travel. Never stay at this hotel if you want to enjoy your vacation.

Proceed with caution
I had no expectations coming into my vacation since this was my first time at an all inclusive resort. On arrival, we were greeted at the check in area with little wait. So far, so good I thought. Our counter person forgot to mention deals that we could acquire and also a private pool and dining experience. When we found out about it, our stay was almost over. The food at this resort was a bit below average. The food at the sister resort, Koba, seemed of a little better quality and taste. Service from the staff were mostly hits but the misses seemed to be things that could have been corrected but were not. Overall, I would only recommend Bahia Principe to very seasoned resort vacationers that know how to navigate the resort landscape. I most likely would not return.
