STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESORT

I just returned from this resort (two hours ago) and I am still recovering from the shock of the substandard treatment. On our first day we had a clogged bathroom; leaking roof; roaches; defective television and general outdated hotel. The treatment by the beach staff person Reyes was atrocious! He watched my husband and I pull out chairs each morning without assisting. Terrible customer service. I frequently had to search for staff to get water or the glass refilled during all meal services. The night staff attempted to keep the customers happy with entertainment. The rooms had a musty odor to it and the shower curtains had mildew. My family and I made the best of the situation but would NEVER, EVER return to this resort. The staff cater to European visitors not Americans. The entire experience was appalling! Don't bother visiting! There are better choices on Puerta Plata!

Worth the money

I chose VH Gran Bentana Beach resort because of the price and all negative reviews said the food was delicious. They were right! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, staff was friendly. Beach was clean and close by. I wasn't too sure of that based on what I saw online. I traveled with several members of my family and we all agreed about the food and loved the price. There were some complaints about the rooms having mold, on pillows and my room had mold on the shower curtains. Any complaints were handled expeditiously. My brother-in-law who said he got tired of the same food, asked me if I would go back next year. If I cannot find something with a comparable price, by all means I would go back! Booking with Cheap Caribbean was helpful. I compared prices the same day, and the prices were higher on other sites that I have used before. Also, I was happy that we ordered the transportation through Amstar. The representative Rodolfo, was extremely helpful, while pleasant, in giving information about the country and purchasing excursions. We went to Ocean World and had awesome encounters with Dolphins and my 84 year old mother, was so happy with her interaction with the birds. The locals on the beach were a little aggressive with their sales and it can be annoying. I purchased some things the 1st day and they were very friendly with me afterwards. My sister decided to buy souvenirs on the last day, which was better than walking to the mall, she was able to haggle with them and pay lower than she would have paid at the mall. I just asked my son (25 year old) for his comments, he said the rooms were moldy. There is definitely something going on with the rooms. I would dry clothes on the balcony and put them in the room, and they would appear wet again. It's weird, but we were only in the rooms for sleeping and preparing for dinner. My son loved the pool and the swim-up bar. Entertainment can be approved, but the Michael Jackson impersonator was great! If you go to this hotel, I recommend going to all of the restaurants that require reservations. The food is even better there. The spare ribs at Ocean Grill was the best!

Overall pretty happy for first time.

Most of the people are very nice, the resort is very clean and beautiful, the beach is always kept clean and free of sea debree as well. The buffet has plenty of options to choose from but not many reservation places. The WiFi is very spotty. It’s good, but got kicked off multiple times a day and had to keep putting the information in, and sometimes couldn’t even get on. What is nice though is the WiFi worked on the beach. Didn’t really like the show options, as I have been out of the resort before and these ones weren’t that great. The gift shop are small and one wasn’t open at all during my stay. On the beach you get hounded by beach floaters trying to sell you items and excursions and services. I can see maybe 2 a day. But 50 times a Day always coming back and asking again it got annoying on the beach when I was trying to relax. In my vip section on the beach analdo I think his name was, was great. Very nice guy, always got you what u wanted. Over all my trip was nice, I would come back to the Dominican Republic for sure. The water is beautiful and clear.
