Staying in Barbados

I love Barbados but the turtal beach resort is a 2 star resort, we had a connecting Room Ocean View ,when we arrived the room have mole smell ,we had to get new rooms but every things is still very old and not upkeep, at 3 different times at the buffet line no plate to eat, at dinner we had to wait over 25 minutes to be seated on one occasion . My family used to Rave about the place I take them on this vacation they give me moral support

Absolute Best Time

I'm so glad I picked this resort for my birthday getaway with my best friend. The staff was wonderful all very nice we stayed for a week. Pool/Beaches- Spent the first day just lounging at the pool then the beach, they have plenty of chairs and shade and if you cant find one a staff member will help. The ocean did have the seaweed but by Wednesday it started clearing up and Thursday it was the beautiful clear blue color. They offer 2 pools, a kiddie pool and jacuzzi which they keep very well maintained. Saw someone regularly checking the chlorine levels. Food - You do have to make reservations ever night if you want to eat at the nice restaurants but don't if you just go to the buffet we did both and let me tell you the food was absolutely amazing so delicious. They also have a cafe that has coffee, pastries, salads, panini then also a ice cream parlor of course its all included which was awesome. Activities - The activities center is SOOO helpful when it comes to booking any excursions or activities. They make it very easy and are great when it comes to recommendations. My friend is legally blind with out her glasses and cant do contacts well they helped us book with Cool Runnings who had a prescription pair of googles she ended up being able to use which was amazing. Room - Was nice at night there were loud noises sounded like sonar, what we were told where either crickets or frogs. We also encountered a few critters in our room tiny lizard, tony crab, dead june bug looking thing but the worse was a cockroach which we called the front desk and they sent someone to spray. Overall it was such a great experience and I would highly recommend this resort.

Needs More Enertainment and Dinning Options

Captain Sam, Franz, Tafarri, and other workers were very nice and pleasant but others not so much. They never played music during the day and only had entertainment at night for 2hrs. It is close to St Lawrence Gap which is nice for tourists with dinning options and entertainment but when you spend over 4,000 dollars to stay somewhere you would hope everything would be there for you. The beds In the rooms where also very uncomfortable and small. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Nice overall resort

Let me start by saying I was a little concerned before arriving at Turtle Beach due to the reviews I had read. As with any review, you're not sure what's real and what is just someone whose visit didn't meet expectations. It is a quiet resort, so if you are looking for lots of constant activities and lively night life, this is not your place. They have good options for activities, but this is not one of those non-stop, something to do every hour places. If you want relaxation on the beach or pool, with the some options to do other things, then this is your place! Overall, the resort could use some updating, which they are in the process of doing. With that, it was clean and there were no glaring issue like we have experienced at other resort, so despite some older feeling areas, it was not something that effected our stay. Room: We were lucky and had an updated room, facing the ocean, which was spectacular. Everything in the room was new, and all the amenities we could have asked for were there too. Food: The food was good, on par with most AI properties, although I will say that the Asiago's and Waterfront a la carte options were far better than buffet. (typical at any AI resort I've been to) The birds people have complained about at breakfast, although a nuisance at times, were not near the food being served. They tended to converge on tables where people left uneaten food that the service folks hadn't cleared. Beach: First day there was a fair amount of seaweed in the water and the water was more brown than blue. This is not the resorts issue, this is an unfortunate problem throughout the Caribbean. The resort did an excellent job of keeping the sand clean every day, unlike Sandals next door. By day 2, the ocean had cleared and the water was beautiful for the next several days. Only on the last day did the seaweed return and the water/beach were a mess again. Again, this is just an unfortunate problem a lot of resorts in the Caribbean are experiencing, so you kind of have to go with it or vacation in a different region. If you want water with waves, then you have the seaweed to deal with. If you want flat water, but always crystal blue, then move up the coast of Barbados. Pool: pools are small for the size resort, but they were clean and inviting. We spent most of our time on the beach and only used the pools at the end of the day when less people were there, so not a lot of time spent at the either pool. Staff: Most staff were very helpful and friendly. We only had the occasional "moody" server and usually because the people ahead of us were being rude ( did see a fair amount of guests acting like jerks for some reason). Sam the Beach guru was absolutely awesome. He would make sure we had activities every day, took us sailing, jet skis, and other beach stuff and his staff were equally friendly and helpful. Sam even made recommendations on places to go and where to eat at the Oistins Fish Fry. Wonderful guy! Overall we had a great time and I would recommend Turtle Beach resort. It was close to many attractions, clean, and most of all, safe both on the resort, on the beach, and venturing out to the Gap and Bridgetown.

What's to Love

The easy walk to St. Lawrence Gap is one of our favorite features of Turtle Beach Hotel. Barbados nightlife is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

What We'd Change

The dress code at Asiagos might be a little too fancy for the more casual traveler. Just be sure to pack some shoes other than flip-flops.

Why You Should Go

If you can, make your trip during turtle-nesting season, April to November. It's an amazing chance to see endangered sea life.

Hotel Description

Turtle Beach Resort: Enjoy A Premium Barbados Hotel with Ocean Wildlife on the Side

The stretch of Barbados' South Coast that is home to Turtle Beach Resort isn't called "Turtle Beach" for nothin'. It's actually a sea-turtle nesting ground from April through November, and lucky December visitors just might catch a glimpse of a hatchling as it scrambles toward the sea.

The wildlife, though, is only the first draw of Turtle Beach Resort in Barbados. All inclusive packages feature the hotel's three restaurants, two freshwater swimming pools and a boat-load of water sports. Try your hand at windsurfing, or watch for tropical fish from a kayak or canoe. When you're ready to explore the surrounding town of Dover, make the three-minute walk to St. Lawrence Gap, or "The Gap" as locals like to call it, a hub of shops and vibrant nightlife.

An island vibe in a natural setting awaits you at Turtle Beach Resort. Barbados' South Coast beach seems laid out just for your viewing pleasure from the private balcony of your artfully decorated room. When you arrive at the hotel, the open-air lobby welcomes you with fresh ocean breezes and a laid-back atmosphere. Each of the rooms is a suite, providing you with all the creature comforts of home. But you're not at home, you're on a Caribbean vacation, complete with beach-concierge service bringing you fresh fruit and afternoon tea. And when it's time for dinner, sample fine dining at Asiagos, the highest-rated Italian restaurant in all of Barbados.

Bringing a handful of kids along? Turtle Beach Resort's Flying Fish Kids' Club is the perfect place for them to hang out and play beach cricket, table tennis and Nintendo Wii. Even "too-cool-for-school" teenagers like the foosball setup and pool table. And with the crackle of Caribbean energy in the air, those who join in the Kids' Club's educational and cultural activities will be too absorbed by their island surroundings to even realize they are learning. Meanwhile, it's playtime for the grownups as they relax in the whirlpool or embark on a rum distillery tour.
