Recomend this resort

Great value resort with incredibly friendly staff throughout. Went the beginning of July when the resort wasn't overly crowded. Weather was great throughout - couple of rain showers but lasted less than a minute. Buffet style food every night, although a la carte dining option which required reservation allows you variety and slightly better quality. Great kids club and modern gym all included. South coat location and windy weather made for rough sea - yellow or red flag every day - which curtailed opportunity to take advantage of included non-motorized watersports. West coast allegedly offers better and calmer seas. Accommodation was excellent. Rooms were clean. Air conditioning was efficient and shower was quite possibly the most powerful I've ever come across. Exactly what you need.

The resort was well maintained and the staff was extremely courteous. There was a variety of food choices for any palate. Daily evening entertainment was fun. Overall, an excellent value!

Have Low Expectations

The resort was very small and in need of some updates such as, by fixing some cracks around the pool, fresh paint, replacing planks and signs by the beach. The pools should be cleaned more often and I wish they had someone to clean up some of the seaweed on the beach. The resort is on the Southside of the island and it was filled with seaweed. The ocean appeared to be like water mixed with chocolate; it was not clear at all. If you want some crystal clear Caribbean water, travel to the Westside of the island (15 minutes) for Carlisle Bay Beach. WiFi only worked outside of the room, so stay out on the resort for a good signal. I expected a little more from this resort since it was give 4+ star reviews. Room: The balcony was a great size, the room was spacious but it needed some updating as well. The glass door for the shower is pointless and it leaked when the shower was running. There would be puddles of water on the floor after taking a shower, so we had to put clean and used towels on the floor to keep from slipping. We informed the front desk on the 2nd day and were told that there would be a shower curtain put up. We stayed there 5 days and never received a shower curtain, so good luck with getting one. We asked for extra towels to be placed into the room while booking the trip, but I guess extra towels were based upon availability. I contacted the front desk and they delivered extra towels without any issues. Our room was supposed to have a hang dry rack for our bathing suits but they never gave one to us. There was a line in the bathtub that we used in its place. Also, they have an “older” tub so you have to press down so that the water can drain faster. Service: Maintenance is terrible. We complained that our TV didn’t work and they just replaced it with the one from across the hall. We would not have complained about the TV not working if we actually had something to entertain us after 10:30pm. The WiFi does not work in the room and I cannot express that enough. My fiancé asked for the fan to be turned on at the waterfront restaurant because it was extremely humid, and that request fell on deaths ears. The staff in the restaurants were pretty pleasant and patience, but there were 2 that appeared to be in a rush. Nearly took our plates before we were even done, but I guess that is because everything is outside, so they did not want the birds to feast on our meals. Food: The food was actually pretty good and they had a typical breakfast and lunch. Beware of the buffet hours because you will go without food unless you leave the resort during their down times. The buffets are NOT 24/7 as listed. There were times when the food was not ready so we had to go to the coffee bar & deli spot (very few selections) to hold us over. Asiago was a great restaurant with delicious food options and the services/staff members were amazing. I definitely recommend scheduling a reservation as it is required in order to eat there. Overall: I would not recommend this resort unless you are going strictly for rest and relaxation. They do not have live entertainment during the day or by the pool, but there are singers at night for like 2-3 hours and it is over at 10:30pm. Many sites listed this resort at 4-4.5 stars and I would only give it 2.5-stars on a strong day. This 2.5-star review is mainly because the Asiago restaurant was amazing, the room was spacious and their restaurant staff is nice. This is the type of resort that will make you want to leave and explore the area because there is nothing to do. The beach was not swimmable and they can’t help that, but it would have been nice to see clean pools and chairs to accommodate everyone. Also, BEWARE, if you are booking an excursion with the activities center, PLEASE be advised that the resort pays a deposit to hold your spot and the resort charges you at check-out. We were not informed of this until we were checking out of the resort and found out we were responsible to pay. We scheduled an excursion and we paid the full amount directly with the company. There was another couple that were blindsided, so please keep all of your receipts. It would just be wise of the resort to NOT pay the deposit on your behalf since they are taking your card information anyway.

Overall the hotel was fine. Nothing special. I would say it is all about how you enjoy your time. Rooms are okay. Nice swimming pools and hot tub.

What's to Love

The easy walk to St. Lawrence Gap is one of our favorite features of Turtle Beach Hotel. Barbados nightlife is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

What We'd Change

The dress code at Asiagos might be a little too fancy for the more casual traveler. Just be sure to pack some shoes other than flip-flops.

Why You Should Go

If you can, make your trip during turtle-nesting season, April to November. It's an amazing chance to see endangered sea life.

Hotel Description

Turtle Beach Resort: Enjoy A Premium Barbados Hotel with Ocean Wildlife on the Side

The stretch of Barbados' South Coast that is home to Turtle Beach Resort isn't called "Turtle Beach" for nothin'. It's actually a sea-turtle nesting ground from April through November, and lucky December visitors just might catch a glimpse of a hatchling as it scrambles toward the sea.

The wildlife, though, is only the first draw of Turtle Beach Resort in Barbados. All inclusive packages feature the hotel's three restaurants, two freshwater swimming pools and a boat-load of water sports. Try your hand at windsurfing, or watch for tropical fish from a kayak or canoe. When you're ready to explore the surrounding town of Dover, make the three-minute walk to St. Lawrence Gap, or "The Gap" as locals like to call it, a hub of shops and vibrant nightlife.

An island vibe in a natural setting awaits you at Turtle Beach Resort. Barbados' South Coast beach seems laid out just for your viewing pleasure from the private balcony of your artfully decorated room. When you arrive at the hotel, the open-air lobby welcomes you with fresh ocean breezes and a laid-back atmosphere. Each of the rooms is a suite, providing you with all the creature comforts of home. But you're not at home, you're on a Caribbean vacation, complete with beach-concierge service bringing you fresh fruit and afternoon tea. And when it's time for dinner, sample fine dining at Asiagos, the highest-rated Italian restaurant in all of Barbados.

Bringing a handful of kids along? Turtle Beach Resort's Flying Fish Kids' Club is the perfect place for them to hang out and play beach cricket, table tennis and Nintendo Wii. Even "too-cool-for-school" teenagers like the foosball setup and pool table. And with the crackle of Caribbean energy in the air, those who join in the Kids' Club's educational and cultural activities will be too absorbed by their island surroundings to even realize they are learning. Meanwhile, it's playtime for the grownups as they relax in the whirlpool or embark on a rum distillery tour.
