    AVOID - 2* at best

Do not be fooled by the glossy photographs, this resort is a 2* at best. Where to begin… Upon arrival after an 8 hour flight we were greeted with a very lack-lustre reception where we had to stand throughout the whole check-in process. We were offered a drink and asked for 2 rum punches. They arrived warm, no ice and served in plastic beakers, it rather set the tone for the whole stay! We were not offered or given a resort tour. With the exception of the water sports staff and one or two in the restaurant and bar and the ladies on the breakfast pancake station who were fabulous, the majority of staff were very grumpy, bordering on rude. I spoke to a few younger staff and asked if they were happy in their job and they said no, as they were not treated well. We got a bar snack one day and I asked for cutlery and was told I didn’t need any so it never came, on another occasion we asked for pizza and and the response was literally “no pizza”, no eye contact, explanation or apology or anything. We did not find out until check out that there was meant to be a beach bar service. We noticed that there was a member of staff who spent a lot of time on his phone sitting in the sun bed storage area, apparently he was the bar service waiter. On one occasion, we witnessed a group of male staff congregated in the same area who, when a young female guest (university age) began using the beach shower, they openly leered and passed comments about her. This is wrong in any situation but it should never be happening in a hotel environment and especially by staff. Although this is an adults only resort, we noticed that some rooms were leaving pineapples on tables outside their rooms - if you don’t know what this signifies then google it! I would not want to take my young adults to a place where people are openly advertising sexual services. The glass washer behind the bar did not work the whole time during our stay so staff were dunking dirty glasses in soapy water, rinsing and then reusing them wet. This is not a satisfactory or sanitary way to clean glasses in a hotel environment, a sick bug would go through the resort like wildfire! The tables in the bar area were sticky, the floor was dirty and daily we witnessed dirty plates and glasses left outside rooms that were not cleared away. I was surprised to hear people playing their own music out loud on speakers on the reef area where the loungers are. I did not want to listen to George Michael singing Last Christmas in May competing with some other rock music. Surely, management should insist that music is listened to via personal headphones or headsets only. We witness thumping base music one afternoon coming out of one of the garden view rooms which everyone could hear. One of the pools was out of action for the entire duration of our trip. On Sunday, the dance floor area was cleared and tables laid for what we thought was a wedding. I have since been told it was for a Mother’s Day lunch where locals paid to come into the resort to dine. While I have no problem with this, hotel guests clearly were not part of this celebration and nothing was advertised to us. We were in the restaurant with basic tables, paper napkins and hardly any staff. The paying local had fabric table cloths, napkins and table confetti and many waiting staff. Talk about being made to feel like 2nd class citizens. The paying locals pushed in the dinner line, were entitled and rude to paying guests who, after all, should be the hotel’s bread and butter. I have been told by my tour operator that the hotel considered the lunch to be a huge success - this may be the case for the hotel’s bank balance but for hotel guests it wasn’t! There was absolutely NO evidence of any management at all during our stay. I am told that they walk the resort at 7am (when most people are in bed), I wonder why? In other hotels I have stayed in on the island, the management is very visible at all times and they have introduced themselves and told us to make sure we contact them if we had any problems. We spoke to many guests both American and British who said they would not visit the resort again as it was so poor and certainly not value for money. At check out we were given a feedback form to fill in which we did. It asked for my email which I provided and wrote that I would like a response. Two days after returning home I received an email from Rob Barrett, Chairman asking if I had had an enjoyable stay and that I could leave comments via a link provided in the email. I used the link in the email to reiterate my disappointment and to this day I have received no response from either the resort or Rob Barrett. I contacted my tour operator to inform them of my concerns who told me that Rob Barrett was recently deceased which rather begs the question as to how he was sending me an email from beyond the grave! This fact just sums up our stay and how disorganised the whole company and hotel is. How difficult is it to change the name on an email to someone who is actually living and respond? I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless you like the holiday camp vibe! I am sad to have to write this review as I had my honeymoon at this resort when it was Almond Beach Club 32 years and we had the time of our lives. This hotel will massively struggle when the Marriott hotels reopen in the coming months. This hotel does not represent the wonderfully friendly island that is Barbados. It appears that the hotel does respond to reviews on Trip Advisor so I wonder if they will, at last respond to me now that I have placed my review on here?

    A Very Nice Experience!!

We had a great time and are so happy we came here!! The majority of the staff that we met were quite polite, professional and accommodating. The food was very good, varied and plentiful. There were numerous vegan and vegetarian options as well. We always felt we had options for food, drink and entertainment. The bar drinks were well made and the bartenders were friendly and engaging. The nightly entertainment was not your typical mega resort shows. Which we thought was a positive. Several nights there were two piece bands playing mostly familar songs. People danced and enjoyed themselves. While we're not typically karaoke people we stayed and watched the performers. We were struck by how many truly good singers there were doing karaoke. We're glad we stayed for it. Overall, the vibe of this place is super chill. People respected each other's space and raucous, obnoxious behavoir was no where in sight. This is an older property that has been going through continous renovation. Not everything was perfect. However, it's clear management is contnuing to make upgrades. We were in building two. Our room was spacious enough for us and the bed and furnishings were in good shape. We had a nice sized covered patio that allowed us to get out of the sun but still feel like we were part of things. The air conditioning is a modern Split type system. It more than cooled our room. It worked great and really made sleeping and being in our room much more enjoyable. The bathroom had been renovated too. The water pressure was great and we had no plumbing issues what so ever. The beach and swimming areas were great! True, the beach that belongs to the hotel has an erosion wall. However, that did not prevent people from swimming and snorkling there. There are stairs at each end of the beach that provide water access. There are a couple of round water loungers that are anchored off the shore. Many people, including us, used them. It was quite pleasant. When facing the water and looking left you'll see Sandy Lane Beach. It's definitely worth walking there for a swim. There aren't any lounge chairs there and that was fine with us. We enjoyed taking periodic walks there during the day. The water was not too warm there and there was NO seaweed. The hotel has plenty of cushioned lounge chairs in the beach and pools areas. We had no problem finding a place for ourselves. No matter what time of day it was the majority of people both guests and employees were smiling. When you're in a paradise it's hard to be grumpy. Thank you to all of the staff at CBR&S for helping to make our stay so enjoyable. P.S. For what it's worth....This was our first time in Barbados. We're from the US and decided to rent a car. We had planned to go sightseeing and tour the island. Our drive to and from the airport changed our minds about that. The roads are narrow and a bit unsettling at times. When we return to Barbados we will hire drivers for the airport and any exploding that we wish to do. Honestly, the hotel was so chill that we really didn't want to leave the property.

    Wonderful week at Club Barbados

I just spent a week here with 5 friends who are gay couples. This spot is such a gem. The location is top notch. There is snorkeling, paddle boarding, sailing and kayaking included in the price. The snorkeling is amazing, and I've snorkeled a lot in places like St. John and Hawaii. The water activities are all right there in front of you. There is no reason to take an excursion. The water is breathtakingly clear. I snorkeled everyday and sometimes twice per day. The variety of fish is top notch. If you don't want to leave the resort, you can have an amazing trip without a single excursion. We opted to take one excursion on a submarine, and it was out of the world. We will never forget, and are glad we left the property for it. All beaches in Barbados are public, and while the property doesn't have it's own actual beach, there is an amazing beach right beside the resort that we walked to daily and sometimes twice daily. A very high end hotel (Sandy Lane) is there. I kept reading that the property was dated, but I didn't feel that it was dated at all. Our room had a brand new bathroom in it. They all have open-air porches. I did three spa services, and all three were really good. The spa itself is not that great (steam room/sauna), but the services make up for it. If they upgraded the spa facility, it would bring even more value. There is a little town to walk to called Holetown that is about 10-15 minute walk away with high end shopping and a grocery store. The staff was very friendly. Kareen was a super bartender. All bartenders are generous with the pours. The pool area is awesome. Lots of options for where to be. Find the pool that looks like a hot tub (but it isn't). It's intimate and small so no one goes there. Find your spouse and have a cocktail there. The food was super. Very fresh options for lighter eaters and heavy options if you are there to blow it out. Our room was cleaned by Kim, and she kept the coffee replenished and gave us more when we asked. The general manager, Caroline, was super nice and was visible and intermingled with the guests. There are tons of on site activities like Water Aerobics, Karaoke, Daily Walks and an awesome piano bar. People raved about it. I didn't go because I am an early riser and it was open at 11 PM. They are upfront that the beaches are public (country policy) and that locals will come up and ask you if you want to jet ski or have some aloe from the plant directly or have some art drawn, but for the most part, this was not a problem. If you don't want that to happen to you, don't sit on the front rows on the beach chairs. Go one row back. They don't come "in" even that far. They just walk the beachfront, and there aren't many of them. T One evening, the service at dinner was quite slow, but that was the exception, not the rule. There are lots of visitors from the UK and fewer visitors from the US. As Americans, we enjoyed that. We felt safe and welcomed. This spot is a wonderful spot to check out of life and do as much or as little as you wish to do. I will definitely return when I need to check out of life again...and this time I needed it a lot. For the price point, this is a steal with so many great pluses. Wonderful week! TY!

So good we can’t wait to come back…

Excellent service from all staff from the minute we arrived, rum punch given as we booked in. There was I short wait for our room so time to explore. I last visited this hotel 19 and 20 years ago so the gardens have matured beautifully and are well tended. It’s true as others mention it’s a bit tired but all areas kept clean a daily maid service and clean towels. Beach towels provided, from water sports where everything is included, and the staff amazing. The kitchen and restaurant staff are fabulous every meal was outstanding and plentiful. The only reason we didn’t gain weight was availability of the water sports to keep us active. The beach bar had some great characters serving and all generous with real undiluted spirits. Our favourites were anything with rum, that just has to be done! We are both 67+ and this was our honeymoon. Our room was decorated with petals, heart balloons a fruit platter and a bottle of Prosecco a lovely gift and arranged I believe by Virgin who we booked through. We made many friends whilst there as the entertainment is fabulous too. I could write many more glowing remarks but suffice to say it was memorable and the snorkelling was like finding Nemo! We are home for 5 days now and planning a return visit… it’s not 5 star rated but everyone we encountered gave us a 5 star service. I hope all of the staff read this and know how much we appreciate you. Lots of love Linda and Adrian
