Bad idea deal of fortune

I have stayed at a least 10 places through cheap Caribbean and I figured might as well try deal of fortune. Horrible idea. Once there we bought the sun club package (club room w higher end liquor, room service, wifi, special section on beach). The sun club was not worth the extra price The club was so so. Food was cold meat sandwiches and no frozen drinks (you could only get those in lobby). The room service menu was less than great. Again, cold sandwiches, not something that sounded or tasted great after a long day of drinking and sun. Honestly, the children's food at the buffet was good and the quesadillas from the pool grill was the best. We ended up eating away from the resort thus, all inclusive was kind of a waste of money. The hotel is in great need of updating! Even a paint job would help! The staff was great! They were trying with what they had! Staff being great is what saved this review from being 1's across the board. The room had a beautiful view! Bed was as hard as the lounge chairs. The shower pooled water that you had to use your feet to push to drain so it didn't completely flood the bathroom. I usually have great reviews for cheap Caribbean and figured their deal might be a little less quality but still hold the same standard. I won't do deal of fortune again as this was so disappointing. My girlfriend wanted to hang out at the pool bar and it had a closed sign at 4pm and when we left the next day at noon the sign was still there! Trust me, she could see it from our room and Kept checking to see if it was open. We tried the taco restaurant and took one bite and left to go back to the Italian place. Do not get the lobster bisque or lobster ravioli from here! It was puréed lobster and I think the forgot to take the shell off before blending it! Eww! The steak madalions were so so but nothing to write home about! The beach was nice and clean. I feel bad for the bad review because the staff was nice but if I return I will pay extra for a better hotel.

Ok for the price we paid.

The hotel in itself is beautiful. A little dated, but not bad. Great location. Shopping mall within walking distance. We actually walked to the harbor for our excursions (only during the daylight) we felt safe the entire time. We did three excursions and they made the trip for us. The beach is rough and rocky, not super clean. So if your looking to go sit on a beach and play in the ocean all day every day- I’d looked elsewhere. The pool is great. Lots of room to move and the temperature was great. The accommodating staff was always friendly and attentive, minus the timeshare guys. Every time we ran into him he was trying to sell us on a free breakfast and only a 45 minute presentation for timeshare stuff. -not worth it, just pay for the excursions and enjoy your vacation. The dining options were fun and great locations to watch the ocean or the people in the pool. But the food was only mediocre at best. The tiki taco was my least favorite, probably the most authentic food at the hotel. The buffet options didn’t have huge selections and the food wasn’t continuous. They had gaps of when you couldn’t eat, probably to set up for the following meal. Breakfast was the least appealing over all. We are non drinkers, so the coke and virgin pina colada’s were my favorite. The bar tenders always remembered us. The room was comfortable. The showers were difficult. One second would be fine, then scalded, then frozen all within minutes- so use caution when showering. I’d go back, just for the price and we were out of the hotel more than we were in it really. It would be a great place to take your kids, for the cost and activities. The entertainment staff always had something planned and the kid activities looked like they were enjoyed by most.

Ok for the price we paid.

Locals paradise, not for tourist

Resort sells day passes to locals! Pool was over crowed, and you have to wait over 20 minutes for burger. Staff caters to locals over guest. Several times I would be waiting on service, as soon as local walks up server appeared. Food was bland! Hotel was dated, but clean. Resort reserved some beach chairs for guest only. We were able to get seats on beach but no peace. Overly aggressive vendors, harass you every second you're on beach. NEVER BOOK DEAL OF THE DAY!

4 Star Deal of Fortune - Don't do it!

My boyfriend and I are young (mid 20s - early 30s), and booked the 4 Star Deal of Fortune to save some money. When we got Sunscape, we went into the week with modest expectations based on other reviews. We said we'd be happy with some food, plenty of drinks, and the beach! However, all in all, I would not go back to this resort and would not recommend that any of my friends do. I most certainly would not recommend it to my parents. It just wasn't...nice. The staff - while friendly - were clearly just trying to upsell you constantly, and were far less friendly when you didn't want to partake. Unfortunately, the food really was just not good (my boyfriend got very sick from the buffet), the drinks were fine, but often took a while to get because of the crowds, and the beach was fine but also crowded and the panhandlers were more frustrating here than anywhere we've been. We could have dealt with any one or two of these flaws, but all together it just really didn't feel worth it. We regret not spending the extra money for a better hotel. We booked through the Deal of Fortune, and while that worked nicely - I would only book the 5 star Deal of Fortune next time. It seems like most 4 star DOF at PVR end up at Sunscape because it's the cheapest.

What's to Love

Family-friendly check-in Hollywood style - red carpet stairs and yummy welcome treats.

Resort passports that send the kids on their own adventure.

With the Sierra Madres & Banderas Bay as the resort's backdrop, your selfies are going to break the Internet (hey, they might!)

Spa luxuries like a Chocolate Body Wrap or a blowout that will make your hair shine.

Golden sandy beaches where you can kayak, windsurf or kick back while the kids make sand castles.

The kids will love the waterslide at the pool!

The Marina Vallarta Golf Club is within walking distance to the resort. Hopefully you won't be yelling "Fore!" too much!

What We'd Change

Booking a Sun Club room would have given us a few more perks that we would've liked, especially room service at night. The kids were completely worn out from all the fun in the sun, and ordering in would have been a treat! Luckily, the restaurant let us take food to-go!

Why You Should Go

You'll have a drink in your hand in no time since it's only 10 minutes from the airport.

El Malecon is nearby with shops, restaurants/bars, art, & clowns performing tricks. (not the scary kind).

Surfs up at the Punta Mita surfing school where the whole family can take on the waves.

You can rent a boat and check out the famous Love Island at the Marietas.

Historical San Sebastian is a short drive away.

Swimming with the dolphins is a must and in the right season, the whale watching will blow your mind.
