We had an amazing time. Resort was clean and beautiful. Food options were good however buffet could be a bit better. They were doing construction for a new buffet area so maybe this was due to temporary. All of the staff was great too.

Dont stay
- food is terrible
-you have to make a reservation then wait an hour
- the staff is treated poorly, they are overworked
- the staff always seems like they are lost and it's their first day
- have I mentioned the food is terrible, not even edible.
- we decided on our 3rd day to eat outside of the resort because we had a conversation with other families that they were doing the same.
- multiple small chats with random people where we agreed they we both wont be returning here.
- not enough beach chairs for guests.
- you have to wake up by 8 to get a towel. If you ask the staff if you can get a towel they will say ok and leave and not return.
- they are constantly trying to sell you a timeshare.
- the food is gross, very disappointing.
Will not stay here again, I felt bad because I booked this resort and no one enjoyed the resort from my family.
We loved this place, however, lots of outside influences that made us rate it how we did. All inclusive resorts meant to us any drink of choice, however, this resort didn’t have premium drinks. We upgraded to VIP so we could have them, only to find, the only VIP bar closed at 7pm! Bars offered cocktails and Some generic well drinks. After lots of discussions with the hotel, they kept it open til 10pm. The day they had a wedding (lovely to see). They closed it, but didn’t tell you!
Italian restaurant ran out of my choice of food twice!
Sun beds were saved when documentation clearly said saving beds were forbidden. No available beds on the beach at 8:30am!
Management have lots to learn, weren’t available for comments (always gave you to someone else) but we’re keen to “sell you an upgrade and VIP package for other resorts On arrival)
Water, snorkeling and location was great.
Transfers from the airport were equal rate to a private taxi without waiting for everyone for the bus.
Cheap Caribbean were great with booking and details including insurance and transfers however the resort was a little disappointing.

Don’t waste your money
Food was terrible service was terrible and extremely slow we paid for the sunclub privileged area and it was a complete waste of money the beach was rocky the main pool with the swim up bar was dirty when we asked a worker what was in the pool (milky white substance) he said garbage thinking we were referring to the leaves we said no the white stuff he then puts his hand in and lifted it out it was all over his hands i almost threw up by how gross and disgusting it was then he tells us it’s better to stay on the beach our first room was missing a shower door and the mini bar wasn’t stocked upon arrival we didn’t get the sun club robe or slippers we were told it was an adults only side which is why we paid the extra money but it was NOT there were kids running and splashing all over the place the bar in the sunclub side was ok but they couldn’t make any frozen drinks you would have to walk all the way to the main pool have them make you a frozen drink then walk all the way back to the sunclub area to get the top shelf liquor in it the resort overall is extremely OUTDATED ! Don’t waste your time money or energy at this location. This resort is not a 4/5 star resort more like a 2 star kind of like your local motel just with a beautiful looking beach in its back yard.

Is Shuttle Service to Willemstad and transfers to the hotel / airport included?9 answers
Hi - I am a bit confused due to the written description of amenities and services that are included: Traveling during the Christmas / New Year week of 2013, are transfers from / to the airport included in the price, or not? What about shuttles to the town of Willemstad - are they included in the price, or an additional charge? There is conflicting information in the amenities description section. Please clarify.
6 years, 82 months ago
Northern New Jersey
We do offer round trip airport transfers at an additional cost, this price is not included in the package price. Please contact us at 1-800-915-2322 for pricing.
CaitlinCC
We had transfers included with our all-inclusive. The hotel offers free shuttles --one in the morning and one in the afternoon -- which can be combined for an all day experience.
carolshops
Hi, airport shuttle included, run by tropical tours.
Although we emailed the hotel to confirm they would be there to pick us up, they were. Worth using the free service as the travel from the airport is ~ 30 mins so would be expensive in a taxi.
Free shuttle to Willemstad twice a day 9.30am - return 1pm and 2pm - return 5pm, Although we used a tax it's only $4 per person each way, so not bad for the luxury fo travelling at a time that suits you better.
saluteam
Our shuttle was free but I believe after October there is a fee. The shuttle downtown is free.
MargieM
Yes. This resort uses a co. Called tropical tours and they have free shuttles to and from airport. They also have an excursion desk in the lobby.
karlx44x
Yes, it is included, but make sure you send an e-mail to them prior to your trip. Shuttle bus to downtown can be arranged a day before, sign up at the front. Twice a day to town, 9AM and 2PM. Otherwise, take a bus, $1.50/pp, it is as easy and at anytime you want.
Islandskipper
The hotel has complimentary shuttle to and from the airport, as well as into town. Email them about a week ahead of time and give them your flight information. They also have 2 daily shuttles into town. You have to sign up for those a day ahead of time.
LastMango
the shuttle to & from the airport are not included but recommend pay the extra price because it will cost more for a taxi & they do offer free shuttle to town.
Shepee
We just picked up a taxi at the airport. There are public "buses" that charge $2.00 to go downtown. Well worth it. Very clean

This resort does not have a disco on property.

The sign on the building that said disco said that it was open from 11 PM to 3 AM however I never saw anyone there. Not in the 6 nights I was there. In general very very few people danced. If you're single looking to meet someone, it probably won't happen here, at least not through dancing.

What is the cost to rent snorkel gear?7 answers

For specific questions regarding pricing for additional amenities at the resort, we do suggest contacting the resort directly as they would be best to assist you. The email address found directly on the resort's website (www.sunscaperesorts.com/curacao/) is info@sunscaperesorts.com.
MariaCC
Free, but 1 hour at a time!! We bought our own in town. $50 us gets u snorkel set with flippers
Gmilanovic
the rental gear was free. get there early, as it's rented out QUICK! they tell you to keep it for only an hour or they'll start calling your room to request it back (why that helps if you're on the beach, i'm unsure...). people keep it all day to ensure they can go when they want, not just in the morning.
servicejunkie
They provide the snorkeling gear for free, you do not have to rent it. I suggest bringing your own so you can snorkel as often as you like. You can only use their snorkeling gear an hour at a time.
WorldTraveler777
Free, if staying at the Sunscape
Allie5
Do not believe there is a charge to rent snorkel gear - however, depends on availability and believe you are limited on the time you can use it. My advice would be to purchase cheap mask and snorkel - fins not required. Don't think the stuff is very expensive and I like to know who was using my equipment before I put it on!
pooh1bear
the snorkel gear is for free for one hour, thank's.

What is the email address we use to request transfer from airport to hotel?3 answers
6 years, 76 months ago
Deborah
You would need to call and speak to an agent who could add the transfers for you. The phone number is 1-800-915-2322
AlixCC
You do not have to notify them in order to receive the airport shuttle to the hotel, the hotel knows the airline arrival times and the shuttle will be waiting at the airport for you. You will need to locate the Sunscape representative and she will check your name off the list at the airport. If you need the hotel email address you can visit their main website it is available there, we emailed several times before arrival and they never respond to emails so it doesn't help.
WorldTraveler777
Cheap Caribbean handled the transfer communications --- Sunscape had the list of travelers at the airport when we arrived... You have to schedule your departure transport with the Sunscape concierge 2 days in advance.
Journeyman2
I contacted Mr. K. Klaber via e-mail and he responded within 24 hours:
kklaber@sunscaperesorts.com

The hotel doesn't provided taxi service. I used www.tiotaxi.com but there are a lot of services you just have to google or you can find one at the airport

Best Diving Shop or Diving Resort in Curacao4 answers
5 years, 71 months ago
TG
Upon searching the internet, the Curacao Tourism Board's website (https://www.curacao.com/Attractions-and-Restaurants/Diving-Snorkeling/Dive-Operators) included information regarding Dive Operators.
MariaCC
The Sunscape Resort has snorkeling equipment available at no cost. The tour desk can set you up with a Dive Shop/Dive Tour activity.
MamaBear1
The dive shop at the Sunscape is run by Ocean Encounters which is a first rate dive operation. They serve the Sunscape and two other resorts - The Lions Dive and Santa Barbara. If I was going just for diving, I might prefer the Santa Barbara because the boat rides are shorter - last pick up and first drop off - you will save 45 minutes of dead time on the dive boat.
henryc32
Best dive shop we have used. The people are great.

Do men have to wear long pants at dinner10 answers

Many of the restaurants have a dress code of "casual elegance" and long pants would be required for men.

They have it in their codes but never saw it enforced. I wore shorts to one of the restaurants that said long pants were needed, but no one said anything to me either. We were there 4/5-4/13/2014.

No, cargo shorts are fine.
Shepee
We just got back from Sunscape on 6-6-2014. I wore dress shorts every night to dinner along with a collared shirt. We saw men there in more casual clothes as well as dressier clothes. They say there is a dress code but we didn't see anything enforced. I packed two pair of long slacks but never wore them.
Hope this helps.

adults friendly?9 answers
We are thinking of going on as an adult couple. We don't mind kids but would prefer not to go to a hotel overrun with kids. Is there an adult only pool or places where just adults go?
5 years, 65 months ago
kflynn
I just got back and as someone who traveled with my friends and really does not like kids, I found that they were there in abundance and not ever kept out of the adults-only areas. There is a pool and pool bar labeled adults only but there were definitely children splashing pool water in my pina colada :( Depending on the staff there, they may or may not get the kids to leave when different activities are happening (volleyball, karaoke, etc).
Ace75
This would not be the resort to go to if you are looking for an adults-only experience. We suggest contacting one of our Beach Experts at 1.800.915.2322 for assistance in finding the perfect resort for your needs.
SamCC
I just got back from Sunscape. This resort is VERY kid friendly. The adults only policy is not enforced at the resort. And the pool bar was never open. I would not go if you are looking for an adults only environment. You will not find it here.
MsDeb
The resort is not over run with kids, but there are no adult only areas except the casino.
henryc32
We vacationed as a couple, and didn't find the children a distraction. While the resort is kid-friendly, most of the guests were couples rather than families. We vacationed in October, so I'm not sure if there would be more children/families in the summer months.
Mathilda
There were a good amount of kids at the resort, however they have a kids club for the kids with activities to keep them busy throughout the day. There is the option of Preferred Club rooms, which all rooms are in the last building. The Preferred Club rooms have their own pool, keeping all other hotel guests out of the pool and beach chairs and canopies. However, kids staying with parents in the Preferred Club get to swim in that pool.
Cooke
The week went there were a lot of kids mostly in the main pool. You can upgrade to the sun club but it is not adults only, there were two or three families with children in the upgraded pool.

The hotel is not overrun with kids. Never had any problems with the children at the resort

what are the rooms like in the Deal of the Day category? where do they face out to?5 answers
4 years, 58 months ago
paula
The room will be a run of house room. The views are typically of the resort or gardens, but are subject to resort placement.
KristenCC
We got a partial ocean view. It was fine though because it was large, clean, and very close to the beach, pool, and restaurants. You can upgrade once at the resort, if you want to, for more money.

in deal of fortune, the rooms face out to the garden, very near to the beach and restaurant...the rooms are in new tower.

Are reservations required at the restuarants?5 answers
4 years, 57 months ago

Sunscape does not require reservations in advance for restaurants.
CCGreg
No reservations, but it's first come first serve so you could wait a long time for a table. Hibachi is the best!! Get there early!
Likes2travel
No not really only at the hibachi restaurant do you need a they reservation because the have set times. At the grill at night when busy did they have a waiting list. Most of the restaurant thought out the day though have no reservations.
Phillesia4290
No reservations accepted at any of the restaurants. They do have the beepers so you can check in and then go get a drink while you wait.

The only restaurant that needed reservations was the Japenese restaurant. All others were first come first served

I can not eat any food with Gluten so will there be a variety of food for me to eat at each meal5 answers
4 years, 57 months ago
Ramrod Ron
Yes, the resort does offer gluten free items at most restaurants. You can also speak with the concierge upon arrival to go over any dietary needs.
KristenCC
We noted some food choices marked gluten free. Also noted the fish was a 'vegetarian' option. So for strict gluten free diet I would double check.
Happyswimmer
don't like GLUTEN FREE food
Reppihc
Yes,lots of fruit, vegetables and meat options.
Tcrel
You will be disappointed by the gf bread options. There are your standard options, but the food is not great, even for those who can have gluten. They don’t really accommodate. The menu says things are gf that are not, like crab cakes. When I asked how they make them they said they used wheat flour. Uh, that’s not gf & shouldn’t have the symbol by it. They don’t even know what gluten is. I was told I couldn’t have one entree because it had rice. I can’t recommend this resort to a celiac or a friend!

Are there rooms that can accommodate 2 Adults and 2 teenage children?5 answers
My husband and I are planning a trip with our teenage daughters, ages 14 and 15. Due to their ages they are not considered children as far as hotel rooms but they are not adults either....How can we find a room that will allow us all to be together. They are not old enough to have their own room. How are families with teens accommodated ?
4 years, 57 months ago

Unfortunately, this resort would not be able to accommodate your family in 1 room, and 2 rooms would be required. We would be happy to assist you in planning your vacation. Please contact one of our Beach Experts at 800-915-2322.
KristenCC
One room with 2 double beds. Will get a little crowed but how long are you in the room?
KATM
hello, you can ask for connection room :-)
skischool
you can ask for connection room,or they can sleep with parents in one room too.
cabka
Our room had 2 beds and 2 teens can sleep together. If you are wanting privacy and want your own room you could book 2 rooms and have your husband be on one room with one teen and you on the other so you can reserve 2 rooms. We did this when we booked our rooms. we booked one room under our 21 yo name and but 2 teens with her and the other under my name and had the other teen with us (3 per room), but had all 4 kids (15-21) stay in one room and the parents had their own room. Hope this helps.

Is the beach decent? As in, are there seaweed, should I wear water shoes, is it rocky?10 answers
4 years, 51 months ago
Washington, D.C.
The beach at Grand Oasis Cancun was crystal clear. Some seaweed because of the rain but not too crazy.
Mendez
The seaweed is daily, some days less than others. There are rocks in the water so be careful if you go in. We would have liked to go kayaking. If there is still seaweed, take a trip to the Mayan ruins, definitely worth it. Beach area is small.
NJ67
You will want water shoes if you are going to be in the beach. Seaweed and rocks out there.
TJHammer
Yes, there was a lot of seaweed. I can't truly answer if the water was rocky because I wouldn't go into the seaweed infested waters, however, when I walked on the sand and peered into the water, it did seem like it was rocky.
KayM1030
no seaweed - there is a "rock wall" that separates the open see from the beach - it also benefits the swimming area from reduced waves and currents making it a perfect "swimming pool" almost with all of the benefits of the pure ocean :)
sYnth23
Beach is very nice. Wear water shoes because it's a bit rocky. No seaweed.
MaddyAnderson
The beach is a little rocky when you first go in, but then you hit sand. Water shoes would be helpful, but you an manage without them. No seaweed. There is a bit of a drop off, but the beach is protected against waves by a rock wall. It is fantastic for snorkeling, so bring your underwater camera!
HudsonRiverGal
the beach is little rocky, the water in the ocean is crystal clear-dream for snorkeling straight from the beach chair :-)
cabka
The left side of the beach is not rocky, the right side has a lot of coral chunks; shoes needed
Spiker29
Definitely need water shoes/rough in places
Songbird1
The beach was wonderful. Water was very clear and there was no seaweed. There are a few rocky areas, but there were also spots that had no rocks. We didn’t take water shoes and saw very few guests wearing them.

The older building I think its building #2, has bigger room layouts, enough to add a cot if needed even with double beds
needoceannow
We had 2 queen beads & they can put another bed in the room. They also have adjoining rooms.
GoldenButterfly
From what I’ve seen, yes but they tend to be more pricey

Many of the rooms are quipped with two queen beds, and there would be adequate room to add a roll-out bed for the 5th person.

If we buy all-inclusive does this hotel provide airport transfers?5 answers
If there is airport transfers how would we set that up?
2 years, 35 months ago
New york
All-Inclusive pertains to the food and beverage portion, transfers are available for an additional cost and can be added at the time of booking or up until 48 hours prior to departure on an existing reservation
JeannieCC
yes
Tooney
you can book the transfers through cheap Caribbean, if you already booked and paid for you trip you can give them a call and add on the transfers and pay for it and they will send you an updated confirmation email which provides the transfers and directions to confirm the returning transfer from the hotel to the airport.
crazye
There is no provided transportation by the resort. There is a company "Scooby Tours" that you can arrange for airport transportation with, which will cost you about $50 p/p...or there are plenty of cabs outside of the airport that you can catch for $40. We found the cab to be easier, because with Scooby Tours, they put you all with people from your flight, but other people are staying at other resorts, so you have to stop to drop them off...From what I heard from other people who used them, there were 2 stops before Sunscape.
safire
Set it up through Cheap Caribbean and their local partners will provide.

Unfortunately transportation is not include, however this can be added for an additional cost either at the time of booking or up until 48 hours prior to travel on an existing reservation.
JeannieCC
Yes, the bus goes into town twice a day. But there's also a public bus stop directly in front of the building, providing a very inexpensive alternative allowing for a greater degree of flexibility. The resort staff are friendly and can help explain your options.
Grackaw
no
Westland
No but you can get a taxi to and from the airport
Krc1220
No, they don't. I didn't check in advance so i took a cab from the airport to the hotel ($40 for 2) but i was hoping there was one available through the hotel for my departure. They don't have one but there are taxis at the front that they can request for you. We met with another couple that was also going to the airport so we discussed the price before leaving and we paid a total of $40 for 4 adults.

In building 8, the rooms directly facing the ocean are 8101, 8201 and 8301. Many of the rooms in this building have ocean views.

yes
Westland
Sun Club will get you fairly ok wifi on most of the resort. It is a per device code though so make sure to ask for multiple if you have more than one device. The wifi is around the two bar mark most of the time and doesn't cover everywhere but it's s vacation for a reason. The concierge can get you reservations at the a la carte places but for hibachi you need to go to the regular concierge and go early.
KristinF
SunClub does include WiFI but it was still slow- 1 password per device and only allowed 2 devices. Not sure about securing seats at A la carte restaurants but was never an issue.

Able to add included honeymoon package option? Or have to do it through resort directly?3 answers
booking through the resort website directly it gives the opportunity to add an included honeymoon package as long as the minimum room requirements are met. I don't see any options for that when booking through cheap Caribbean. Is there a way to add this on this site?
2 years, 31 months ago
Maryland
Cheapcaribbean can only send a request to resort mentioning you are celebrating honeymoon. The resort offers these amenities complimentary for honeymoon/wedding anniversaries:
Welcome letter
Plate of tropical fruit
Bottle of champagne
Turndown service
Romantic dinner in an a la carte restaurant
CCGreg
When bookings on CheapCaribbean you can call to book and let the booking agent know that you would like a package or inform them as to what you may be celebrating and they will inform the hotel as well as provide you with additional booking options.

No.

Yes. They had a couple of plugs that worked for US electronics and hairdryers, but they were located in weird places. There was not a US style outlet in the bathroom, so I had to dry my hair next to the closet.
Akajaws
The Sunscape has American outlets and European outlets. I bring a power strip with me and use it to charge our devices.

If you have the European plug you will.

Hotel safety and security8 answers
We are in the process of picking a location for our destination wedding! Many of our family members are nervous about travelling to a foreign country with their children due to concerns about safety. How is this resort with security?
2 years, 27 months ago
USA
I did not see a lot of security in this resort. There is a casino right at the resort and anyone can go into the casino, which connects to the resort. The night I went there was no security at the door leading to the resort, so anyone from the outside could've gone right into the resort. But Curacao in itself seemed to be a pretty safe place to be at.
Jazzy13
We felt very safe and the staff always made sure we were the guest of the hotel.
Trips
We just returned from Curacao and we saw no security issues any where. There were lots of children. They loved the beach & pools at Sunscape.
MikePaula
There is security on site, and the kids are watched closely when they are with the explorers club/kids club. The island has an exceptionally low crime rate so I wasn't really concerned about safety
Twitch128
Excellent security at the hotel. The town is safe also. People are friendly, helpful, and are happy. We use the bus system a lot ( they’re minivans). One of the safest islands and resort we’ve been to and will be going again.
Zeusse
Great security. No concerns or worries. We traveled with 2 small children. It is nice because you do not have to worry about drinking the water in Curacao. Great kids club....not the wrong choice at this resort.
Yladdus
Ok. There were some taking place while we were there. It's very hot and humid during the day but usually cooled off at night!
Songbird1
We saw several security employees on the premises. The entrance to the resort has a guard house. We felt very safe during our stay. We even walked about a mile to a super market. We never felt unsafe or apprehensive.

Every room has its own balcony or terrace, so choose from a garden view, ocean view or ocean front and gaze out toward your postcard-worthy vista. If you choose a Preferred Club room, you'll get to enjoy extra amenities, including a private check-in, concierge service and so much more to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.
Red carpet check-in at Sunscape Curacao while relishing welcome treats like chocolate chip cookies or frozen pops.
Delicious treatments like strawberry hydrating facials and chocolate mani/pedis. Yum.
The luscious body wraps (for those who don't want to be tempted with naughty, sugary treatments).
The casino (adults-only) with over 300 slot machines and games (if you get too sun burned & wanna cool off).
Cool, exercise-y stuff to check out like a rock climbing wall and Sumo wrestling.
You can learn Papiamentu - a language that is mix of Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, English and French.
60 pristine, world-renowned diving sites. Here, you can really make a splash. (Ba dum dum).
Getting to feed turtles, sharks, stingrays, plus a dolphin experience at Sea Aquarium Park.
What We'd Change
The shore is close to the hotel, so you won't take long walks through the sand to get to the ocean. But if taking long walks on the beach is your thing, you can always walk along the shoreline.
Why You Should Go
It's just 10 miles away from the airport. Woot!
The Sun Club, a family-centric program with everything from room upgrades to cartoons in the rooms.
The island is outside of the hurricane belt, so it's good to visit year-round.
It's two miles away from Willemstad, where you can enjoy world-class shopping along with historic sightseeing (if you're into that kind of thing).
Golf is available at the nearby Blue Bay Golf Course and there are two lit tennis courts.
The beach is close to the hotel, so no long trek to reach the ocean.
Eco-adventure tours are available. Bring your bug spray, just in case.
