Beautiful resort, but...

Let me say that this resort is BEAUTIFUL! Stunning ocean views practically every where you turn, beautiful beach, etc. The rooms are decent, our mattress wasn't the greatest, in fact it's the worse mattress I've ever laid on, but I still slept good. To get an adults only experience dining wise, there's only one restaurant, Azul, every other restaurant/eatery is shared with Sonesta Maho which is family friendly (we didn't mind eating with families). The service, however... ...SXM is naturally hot and humid, the lobby is open aired with ceiling fans (no A/C), and there are only 2 check in stations. When we arrived, there were about 6 other people checking in and let's just say tempers were getting a little high rather quickly as we waited to check in despite the bottled water and champagne offered by the staff ...when we checked in, we had to ask for a map of the resort (it wasn't offered) and we were advised to download the Sonesta app in order to view "all of the hotel's amenities." When we got to our room, we downloaded the app which had some information, however the information for the resort's restaurants failed to mention the restaurant's operating times (the restaurants have down times but it's not clear, we had to guess and ask everyday when the restaurants were closing, never got one document that specified). Oh and at one point we were trying to order room service from the app's menu and was told that the items we were requesting weren't available and that if were ordering from the app's room service menu, the app wasn't up to date (so why were were advised to download the outdated app?) ...most of the restaurants require reservations for dinner and they get "fully booked" but when you go to the restaurant during your reserved time, the restaurant is about half filled ...our room had a "24 hour room service menu" that had options between 11am and 7am (not quite 24 hours huh) one section of options available between 11am and 11pm and another section for options available between 11pm and 7am. Obviously we still called room service for breakfast between 7 and 11am we just didn't have a menu to go off of ...we asked for fresh towels one day, never got them, when we went down for breakfast the next day we asked again still nothing, we called again by the late morning and was told that they hadn't been delivered because we had the privacy sign on our door...we call for room service and have the privacy sign on the door, they'll knock, we call for towels and have the privacy sign on the door they don't knock and instead tell us that they didn't knock after 12 hours of requesting for towels ...these are some of our experiences with service (or the lack thereof). Beautiful resort, I just wish the service was better. We still enjoyed our stay but obviously had moments of frustration.

The food was awful, service was extremely slow and I got bed bug bites all throughout my body. The people were very nice and the beaches were breathtaking. The beachs were the only thing that made this trip worth my while. Not worth the money. This trip was very expensive. Had very high expectations that were diminished very quickly

St Marteen summer Vacation

The resort was very nice. Plenty of pools and bar service all around. The food was good everywhere that we ate. At oceanpoint there was no air condition in the lobby. At sonesta there was air condition I found that to be very uncomfortable for the adult retreat.. At times there was only one elevator for use and it was mostly occupied by the workers. The boxspring on the bed was old and creaky and the mattress was lumpy. We called for a replacement and we were told that they couldn't replace it. Very disappointed. So we improvised and flipped the mattress over and turned it around. Box springs and mattress should be replaced accordingly. Overall I would definitely recommend this Resort for vacation.

My Vacation

My overall experience was very good. St Maarten is beautiful and the Sonesta was very nice. The roof top suite was very nice, roomy and clean. The view was incredible! The pool side service was great on the Adult side of the resort! The other side was more alive and the entertainment was nice so a good combination. The food on the Adult only side was very good, the buffet on the other side was not very good which was a little disappointing since that's were you could catch a quick meal. The butler service was a little disappointing or over rated. They were nice and made all our diner reservations but they were'nt pro-active. We had the phone but no one called to make sure everything was going well. They did not replace the wine when the bottles were empty like they said they would. Not much of an issue since room service was so quick. Also, the website sight says the butler will get you preferred seating for dinner, that was not the case, most nights we couldn't even get the times we wanted. Not bad but overrated. The bartender at the roof top bar was GREAT!!!!! He was funny, got everyone dancing and was a really good singer! They should give that guy a raise! All the bartender were great but he was a step above. One thing we did notice is a lot of the waitresses were just not happy so that put a little damper on dinner and lunch. One night at the Point (the Italian restaurant) 2 of the waitresses were screaming at each other - that's no exaggeration i thought it was going to get physical. Also worth mentioning is Big Mac - he's the security guy who greeted us the first night. What a great guy!!!!! Always had a smile on his face and always went out of his way to say hi. BTW.. Big Mac is the nickname some of the other workers called him but he introduced himself as Mack. He deserves a raise as well!!! All in all like i mention above the experience was very good positives definitely outweighed the negatives. I hope my honest helps.
