Ocean Point - Not a good vacation

The resort rated a C- for this vacation. They are not ready to service many guests. The rooms are nice. The food was Luke warm to cold with many items not available no matter what time you dined. The bars (no matter which location) didn’t always have the liquor or other ingredients to mix a drink & the guests were told they would have the ingredients the next day. There were really only 2 restaurants availability - Azul & The Pointe. You could get small plate at Tapas but again not all items available. The management did offer a candlelight dinner for 2 by the pool - again cold food. The Maho during our stay was still under construction. It is supposed to open the end of Feb - which is supposed to provide access to add’l restaurants- but that also means those at Ocean Pt have access to those same restaurants. The staff is not ready to be able to service these vacationers in this quantity. They need more training - including the chefs. We had stayed previously at Maho & enjoyed our stay at that time. We thought we’d try the adult only sister hotel - but we were very disappointed in our stay at Ocean Point. We were led to believe Maho would be open too - can’t control construction is what was told just prior to departure- but we paid for a 2 for 1 vacation & not one where construction was going on the entire time. No lobby, no shops, a small room for check in. Just not ready.

We didn't want to leave!

Just returned from a great stay at Sonesta Ocean Point (mid Feb 2019). The family resort and lobby were still under construction, so we only visited areas of the hotel that are part of Ocean Point. The ongoing construction was not disruptive to our stay. We stayed in one of the swim out rooms and it was nice. Room included an espresso maker instead of a regular coffee maker which is probably the only change I would make. We enjoyed that the resort had two smaller pools instead of some of the huge pool areas that I've experienced at other all inclusive resorts. The smaller size of the resort was also nice. The staff at the resort were kind and caring. They seemed to know us by name after the first day. The drinks were delicious! The only downside was the dinners. I believe options will improve once the dining options at the family resort are available. Breakfast and lunch were typical of other all inclusive resorts I've visited. Dinners were disappointing. We decided to leave the resort for dinner one night for some variety. To me that's a trade off of the all inclusive, you give up some delicious dinners for convenience. The views from the hotel were amazing. Our photos look just like the ones on the Sonesta website. It's also neat to see the planes coming in. There is not a good beach at the hotel. Maho beach is walkable but it isn't a beautiful beach. The pools at the resort overlook the water so even though you don't have a beach you can still enjoy the water.

Sonesta so so

Overall we enjoyed. We live in NYC and travel a lot. For me,must be clean, must have a good pool. On a positive note,it’s very clean. The staff ,especially the supervisors are nice and accommodating. As most people have said, the food ,meh. Limited choices and just ok. If you are looking for good food you shouldn’t be going for all inclusive. We were happy to be out of the cold weather but if I’m being honest, wouldnt choose to go back. In no way shape or form is this 5 stars. Nor are most all Inclusives. massage in the gazebo so lovely. The restaurant ,Candlelit is a notch above the others but not by much. They only allow you to eat there once. Not cool. It’s outside, they could easily add 10 tables. If you are a drinker ,you get money’s worth. We do t drink enough to care. The fitness instructor Gypsy is good. While we don’t spend our vacation in the Caribbean inside the gym all day, there gym is very nice ,big windows and good size so it’s not clostrophobic and dark like some. The owner is Italian so he plays this Italian music by the pool and it plays OVER and over. please stop. If you like a jetset crowd this is a hard no!!! Day trips to st Bart’s amd Anguilla were highlights.
