Disappointed

It was with great excitement that I booked this trip and I was disappointed. First, the "Resort" was very isolated. There was very little to do and everything was through a transport agency that used high pressure sales techniques to get us on trips. They advertised a PADI Center on the resort but neither it nor it's parent company had no such thing. Even though I wanted to dive, I was ok with not doing so. In my opinion, the claim of on site diving is false. Most of the staff were very friendly but housekeeping started very early in the morning yelling, screaming and dragging furniture around very thin floored and thin walled rooms. Everything the yelled or dragged seemed amplified. No side walks made walking around very difficult, the roads weren't safe for foot traffic and cars came barreling through at a very fast pace. basically you are stranded. The Resort does run a shuttle from Samsara to its parent site but it's a 10 passenger van and it's overloaded. Plus it only makes 2 trips the last a 4pm. All activities on the resort shut down at 10pm, at that time there is only local taxi drivers at an elevated rate of $$ and alcohol. The 1 time we used a taxi, the driver was extremely inebriated and we decided to take another taxi when he stopped for a restroom break. The food on the resort was at best acceptable. Now, because it was hard to get around and near the resort there was only 2 restaurants that seemed to be closed most of the time almost all meals had to be there and the value was not very good. even if you were on a meal plan. So in short, I would not return to this place because of the isolation and the overall quality of the rooms and the food. If you enjoy the isolation and the limited access to water sports then this is for you.

Disappointed...to say the least

We rarely write reviews, but after this stay, and the other people we spoke to at the resort, we felt compelled to express ourselves and our disappointment. Went for my boyfriends birthday. We are on a budget, so we weren't expecting the Ritz Carlton by any means. On our arrival, our room wasn't ready so we were directed to the bar to wait. This was our first experience with the not-so-friendly wait staff. We felt like we were bothering them to ask for anything! We chose not to do the all inclusive meals/drinks and we were thankful we didn't after the attitude and lack of service we received. I ordered two cups of coffee and was asked later in the day if I had paid for the coffee earlier.......wow! Once our room was ready we were escorted and given the breakdown of the maid service. We were told every night our bedding would be changed from the white bedspread to the floral one. This never happened. We never got the sheets changed on the five nights we were there. We had to ask for towels and on one occasion when I was already showering and realized there were no towels in the room I had to dry off with a t-shirt! The rooms are older and outdated, which we were fine with since we rarely stayed in the room. Omar, our shuttle driver was the most helpful. The restaurant across the street, Ciao Jamaica, had great food, but again, zero customer service. The cliffs at the hotel were fun to jump off and the snorkeling there is good... We would like to visit Jamaica again, and have a "re-do" of this trip.

Hotel Description

Samsara Cliff Resort: Take Spa Vacations to New Heights

If life has you about to go over the edge, then book a Jamaican vacation and head to Samsara Cliff Resort & Spa in Negril.

Taking advantage of the incredible views, the pool sits on top of the resort property, where you might find it hard to choose between closing your eyes and floating lazily, or laying back and watching the clouds skitter across the bright skies. For a different kind of kicking back, claim your spot on one of the sun-splashed decks carved from the cliffs and offering a perfect place to bask in the sun.

If you're more of a beach bum, head down to the white-sand beach via a series of steps and ladders that easily take you down to the waves. Or, if you are feeling particularly daring, get down the traditional island way with cliff jumping. The waters below the tall cliffs are deep enough to pose a hazard, and Samara Cliff Resort & Spa has friendly staff who can show you where to take the plunge with this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Of course you can explore the waters without having to jump off a cliff; the resort features a PADI-certified dive shop. Make arrangements to become scuba certified or just go on a snorkeling tour to goof off with the clownfish.

Finally, after working up an appetite, you'll be glad the buffet at Samsara Restaurant is all you can eat. Once a week the restaurant features Jamaica Night, pairing Jamaican cuisine with live entertainment and groovy reggae music. Because the resort shares privileges with its sister resort, Legends Resort, you get twice the options for activities and meals. Be sure to set aside some time for the Pasta Fiesta on Tuesdays at Legends Restaurant.

This hotel is NOT all-inclusive. Food and drink must be purchased separately.
Unless otherwise specified, all services are available for an additional charge.
