  Not a great stay

  We arrived on January 17, booking 3 rooms. we arrived before check in around 2:30, only one room was ready. We were told to come back in 45 minutes. we came back about 4 and still rooms were not ready with no explanation, front desk staff dismissive of our concerns. We came back again about 6:30 and rooms still not ready, asked to speak to manager. At about 7:00 were assigned rooms on opposite ends of resort. Went to one room and room was already occupied by another guest. Went back to front desk and again very dismissive of our concerns that they gave us a room with someone already in it. Finally around 8:00 we received room. AC barely working. next day got switched to another room. Spent way too much time at front desk. While we were visiting front desk...another guest was checking in and they had no room either. When we spoke to one of the staff we were told it was possibly because we didn't book directly with Royalton. We booked through JetBlue True blue vacations and we have never had an issue with rooms not available. This is a problem with this resort and how they book their rooms. I do not recommend this resort because the front desk staff service was horrible. I have stayed at other Marriot properties and never encountered such bad service. In addition, per Royalton website their would be snacks in room replenished everyday, only one room out of the three we booked got snacks and only on last day at resort. Had to ask housekeeping for towels, tissues, bath mat and bottled water. One of the rooms bathroom door lock was broken, had to have maintenance come and they put a screw to hold the door lock panel then bathroom door didn't lock at all. Water dripping from ceiling had to have maintenance come again. On the plus side the bartender at the Sports Bar was excellent, Jose at the breakfast buffet omelet station was great too. Staff at dinner at Rio, Oceanside and Grazie Italian restaurants were also great. We expected more as this is part of Marriot.

  2.5 star hotel at best. Can't deliver Diamond club offerings.

  We booked 2 diamond club rooms and expected to have superior rooms and service. I registered 6 months ago to have the rooms close together and in building 14 if possible. I then followed up with a phone call to ensure that my request was accepted. The rooms were the furthest from the beach without any real view (building 16). The rooms were in terrible disrepair . At one point, the access door in the shower fell down while I was showering. Had to call the butler every day to get the normal stuff that should have been in the room daily (bath mats, bath towels, snacks, coffee, etc. blanket for the extra bed). Room service dishes are left in the halls for over 24 hours. The aqua spa heater was broken for the entire week. We had 1 free hour in the aqua spa from the Diamond club. When asked if they offered any other service to make up for this loss, the response was "No we don't". Supposed to have special coffee machine in the room, just a regular coffee maker. Aromatherapy was promised through diamond club, not delivered. The food is average, same thing every day. Went to the steak house and after 2 hours, left without my meal. They brought the rest of the table's meals after 90 minutes (and we have children 3,3,5), but neglected to bring mine even though I flagged down the manager. Of course, they promised better service next time. The up-selling is annoying. I asked how they would deliver gold service when they couldn't deliver the diamond service...no answer. just apologies. After this, the up-selling staff ignored us completely (not a big issue!). The grounds were nice and the beach area was beautiful. The staff were attentive and tried their best to deliver an appropriate level of service. Fernando (beach bar) and Yenny (our Butler) were terrific and attentive. Like most reviews, I expect that there will be a mea culpa from Cesar Garcia (general manager), promising to provide better service if we return (I've seen this from many previous travelers reviews.

  Wonderful

  We had a wonderful experience at the Royalton. We were diamond club and it was worth it. Our butler Gerlyn was amazing. He made sure to check in with us every day and all our needs were met. The buffet breakfast by the ocean for the diamond club was wonderful. We enjoyed the food especially the grilled seafood at the lunch buffet. Never had problems to find a chair at the beach or pool. Only thing was there weren't enough umbrellas at the pool for shade.

  The food was bad. Clean, but bad. No one got sick. That’s a plus, but I’ve handed out better meals at soup kitchens.

  The accommodations were what was expected, nice, but used. It’s not a five star establishment and it isn’t supposed to be, it was more than adequate for our family that has traveled extensively around the world. The facilities and things like sliding doors and toilets worked and were clean but worn, through no fault of the staff.

  Overall a great experience. Sone areas of Property is in need of renovation.

  The wait time for a suite with a king bed was kind of long. The snacks in the room were never replenished even after making the request. Our butler Michael was very helpful. He was accessible and made sure our stay was comfortable. He had a great attitude.
