Rigid process
This was a business trip, but I booked several months in advance with two weeks prior to the reservation. I had to add a day on the front end,which I did hoping the front desk would be able to connect to two reservations which they were not able this is disappointing as I’ve done in the past at different properties in different countries with no issues whatsoever. I was actually asked to check out of my room on the first day sit in the lobby 3 to 4 hours to recheck in in my opinion it’s very unprofessional their inability to think out of the box on something as simple as this is unusual, but not surprising

Royalton Diamond Club Pool
Last day at Royalton - my review is purely for Rialan who in my opinion has been the best member of the entire team at this resort. His service at the Diamond Club pool has exceeded all the service we have received. He is polite, attentive, happy to help and always has a smile on his face 😊

DOES NOT REFLECT A 5 STAR RESORT
We stayed at Royalton Bavaro at the start of February and unfortunately our experience fell far below what is advertised as a luxury five-star resort. From the very first day, we encountered unacceptable behaviour. While visiting the pool bar, I asked politely for a straw and the members of staff openly mocked and laughed at our accents and just said ‘no straws, maybe later’This was not subtle — it felt intentional and was deeply humiliating. As paying guests, being ridiculed by staff on the first day of a holiday set a very upsetting tone for the rest of our stay. The following day at lunch, we were spoken to abruptly and told we were sitting at a table considered “too large” for us and instructed to move. There was no courtesy, no polite communication, and no apology for the inconvenience. It was handled in a cold and unprofessional manner. Bear in mind he made no effort to say hello or even smile, he was ignorant and grumpy, and the buffet area wasn’t even half full so it was completely unnecessary ! Our experience at Zen restaurant was particularly poor. When we politely explained why we had not eaten the sushi, the waiter responded in an abrupt and dismissive way. He rudely took our plates away and then accused us of ordering the wrong dish and waved menus around in our face. The sushi rice was lukewarm, overcooked, and mushy — completely inedible. Rather than showing understanding, the attitude we received made the situation uncomfortable. Overall, the food quality across the resort was disappointing. Meals at both buffets and most restaurants were bland and below the standard expected at a resort of this calibre. Even more concerning was the lack of hygiene, with flies repeatedly landing on exposed food, raising serious food safety concerns. Room service took approximately two and a half hours to arrive. When it finally did, the order was incorrect and items were missing. No apology was offered and no effort was made to resolve the issue. On another occasion, one of us was nearly denied entry to breakfast due to wearing beachwear, despite wearing similar outfits all week without issue. The inconsistent enforcement was embarrassing and handled without discretion. Despite requesting a bathrobe six times, it never arrived. There was no follow-up, explanation, or acknowledgment of the repeated requests. That said, we do want to recognise Yolhandria, who checked on us several times and was genuinely attentive and caring. She was one of the very few staff members who made us feel looked after. We also had an excellent experience at the Italian restaurant, Trattoria — the service was welcoming and organised, and the food quality was noticeably better than elsewhere in the resort. That experience showed what Royalton Bavaro is capable of when service standards are upheld. Unfortunately, our overall stay did not meet five-star expectations, and we cannot say it reflected the luxury experience that is advertised. It is such a shame because the rooms and the grounds of the hotel are stunning but staff and food lets it down massively.

Amazing resort and Vacation
This was our second time at the resort and as soon as we got there we remembered why we returned! Beautiful beach, beautiful kept grounds, fantastic service, gorgeous pools, very clean, great food! We stayed in the diamond club 2 bedroom chairmans suite which had the most stunning views of the ocean. We were on the 4th floor which was perfect. The room was so spacious with a full kitchen and pool table, 3 full bathrooms, massive balcony, plus two more balconies off the bedrooms. Our butler was Felix and he was top notch! He was extremely friendly. He messaged us every morning and also came and found us at the pool. He didn’t rush us and had great conversations with us. He helped us make all our arrangements for super bowl party. We paid for VIP so when we got there he greeted us and made sure we didn’t wait in long lines. He made all our dinner reservations. He went above and beyond for everything. He was always working hard. If we ever return (and I hope we do) we will definitely request him again. All in all our stay was amazing and Felix just added the extra special touch to our vacation! Thank you so much 💕

Beautiful resort, but poor customer service overshadowed the stay
We’ve been fortunate to travel over the years and have never written a review before. This experience stood out enough that we felt it was important to share. This is a beautiful resort. The grounds are stunning, the rooms are very nice, the pools and lazy river are excellent, and the layout is fantastic, especially in the evenings. The nighttime entertainment was enjoyable, and the food was surprisingly good, among the better we’ve had in the Dominican. Unfortunately, the customer service and management completely overshadowed everything else. We paid extra for swim out rooms and did not receive them. While availability issues can happen, what followed was days of confusion, mixed messages, and being sent back and forth between Guest Services, the front desk, and our tour operator. Valuable vacation time was lost trying to resolve something that should have been handled quickly and professionally. Throughout the process, we were polite and flexible, yet there were moments where it genuinely felt like we had done something wrong simply for expecting what we paid for. We were eventually offered a refund, but only for three nights, because we declined to switch rooms partway through a one week stay. The resort treated switching rooms as a simple solution, when in reality it would have meant packing up and re settling halfway through our vacation. Being penalized for choosing not to further disrupt our stay did not feel customer focused. Early in our stay, we were approached by someone introduced as our concierge, which we initially thought was an effort to provide extra service given the room issue. Instead, it turned out to be a Prime timeshare presentation that ran well over the promised time. As part of that, we were given a voucher for a private cabana, only to later be told there was no availability for the remainder of our stay. That added to the frustration. More importantly, this highlighted a bigger issue. When a resort struggles to look after its guests at a basic level, it is difficult to trust promises of better service in exchange for investing more money. What also stood out was the lack of basic service awareness. On multiple occasions in hallways and dining areas, staff appeared disengaged or focused on their phones, and guests were often the ones stepping aside to allow staff to pass. These may seem like small things, but in hospitality, people make the difference, and those moments add up. If you receive the room you booked and never need to deal with Guest Services or the front desk, you would likely have a very enjoyable stay. We understand that many guests likely do. That is what makes this so disappointing. With stronger leadership and a consistent guest-first service culture, this resort could be outstanding. The physical property is already there. If the service matched it, we would absolutely consider returning.
