  4th visit to the Royalton Bavaro

  This was our fourth visit to the Royalton Bavaro in Aug/Sep. We had a lovely holiday with the family and the vow renewal on the beach was amazing. The wedding team - Carlos and Yocasta did an outstanding job! As always the Royalton staff are great, they always go above and beyond from the DC Bartenders, pool guys, restaurant hosts and managers and many more. We can’t wait to return for another great holiday in October Cesar, Octavio and Miguel you have a great team, thank you for making our holidays so memorable and enjoyable

  Beautiful Family Vacation

  Location - 30 minutes from the airport, easy transfer, easy check in Rooms - We stayed in a luxury junior suite swim out, in a building close to the pool area and beach. The room was spacious and clean, great shower, excellent air conditioning, fairly quiet area. The room was perfect, except for the bed, which was not so comfortable. The swim out was great---very private and wonderful for early morning and late night dips. Food/Restaurants - The buffet was large, with many options, but every night seemed the same (unlike some resorts that have theme nights). The restos were mostly good. The Brazilian beside the beach was probably the best, and the steak house was nice. The Italian was fine for food but terrible for service. The atmosphere in the restaurants was a little odd---always brightly lit and a little too loud. It would have been nice to have at least one restaurant that was a little more upscale. There is a good coffee "shop" near the lobby that serves all kinds of hot and cold coffees, and the food truck at the pool was handy. Free room service was a great perk, especially for our teenage son. Pools - Great pools, one big loud and one a little quieter. Always room to lounge. The lazy river was super fun and a lot cooler (temp wise) than the pools. Beach - The beach was covered in sargasse when we were there, and it did not smell good. This doesn't seem like a hotel issue---it is everywhere. Lots of loungers at the beach, but the actual swimming area is small. Service - Unfortunately, this is the one area of the resort that was a real let-down. Staff seemed to either love their jobs or hate their jobs. We had great service from some folks who helped us book restaurants and other extras, and then really substandard service by some of the wait and bar staff. While we always tip for good service when on vacation, it seemed very clear to us that tips were not only appreciated but expected. Many servers would walk right by even when we tried to wave them down. We waited and waited for water to be brought to our table in restaurants, for our room to be cleaned, for drinks at the bar, for plates to be removed, really, everything was super slow. And if it was only slow, that would be fine, but slow and at times almost dismissive. Very strange for a resort that is otherwise really quite beautiful and a lot of attention to detail. We were thankful to Walter, who helped us with all reservations and anything else we needed, always with a smile and personal attention---he made up for the many other staff members who seemed like they really didn't want to be there.

  Diamond club bar staff Carlos and Miguel had very good service and helped us to have the best holiday. Lovely resort and food is great.

  Diamond club staff 10/10 , miguel and carlos at the lunch bar were very attentive. Great friendly staff that looked after us very well

  Poor customer service

  The customer service here is possibly the worst I have ever experienced. I don’t think many of the staff really care about the customer experience. The guy in the gym was just always on his phone, the barmen at the beach bar basically ignored me because I hadn’t tipped them the day before. It was almost impossible to get a smile out of anyone here. Maybe there needs to a be focus here staff training. It’s also not particularly clean. Food is left in corridors from room service overnight. The Diamond Club pool is awash with cups, drinks and cigar ash. (The lifeguard told me that it’s ok for people to smoke in the middle of the pool and flick their ash in the water) We had multiple check in / issues with our room - we were promised a follow up from a customer service manager which we still haven’t received. Obviously we are still pursuing this. Booked this as Marriot Bonvoy Titanium members and were very disappointed with the standard.
