  Beautiful resort, but poor customer service overshadowed the stay

  We’ve been fortunate to travel over the years and have never written a review before. This experience stood out enough that we felt it was important to share. This is a beautiful resort. The grounds are stunning, the rooms are very nice, the pools and lazy river are excellent, and the layout is fantastic, especially in the evenings. The nighttime entertainment was enjoyable, and the food was surprisingly good, among the better we’ve had in the Dominican. Unfortunately, the customer service and management completely overshadowed everything else. We paid extra for swim out rooms and did not receive them. While availability issues can happen, what followed was days of confusion, mixed messages, and being sent back and forth between Guest Services, the front desk, and our tour operator. Valuable vacation time was lost trying to resolve something that should have been handled quickly and professionally. Throughout the process, we were polite and flexible, yet there were moments where it genuinely felt like we had done something wrong simply for expecting what we paid for. We were eventually offered a refund, but only for three nights, because we declined to switch rooms partway through a one week stay. The resort treated switching rooms as a simple solution, when in reality it would have meant packing up and re settling halfway through our vacation. Being penalized for choosing not to further disrupt our stay did not feel customer focused. Early in our stay, we were approached by someone introduced as our concierge, which we initially thought was an effort to provide extra service given the room issue. Instead, it turned out to be a Prime timeshare presentation that ran well over the promised time. As part of that, we were given a voucher for a private cabana, only to later be told there was no availability for the remainder of our stay. That added to the frustration. More importantly, this highlighted a bigger issue. When a resort struggles to look after its guests at a basic level, it is difficult to trust promises of better service in exchange for investing more money. What also stood out was the lack of basic service awareness. On multiple occasions in hallways and dining areas, staff appeared disengaged or focused on their phones, and guests were often the ones stepping aside to allow staff to pass. These may seem like small things, but in hospitality, people make the difference, and those moments add up. If you receive the room you booked and never need to deal with Guest Services or the front desk, you would likely have a very enjoyable stay. We understand that many guests likely do. That is what makes this so disappointing. With stronger leadership and a consistent guest-first service culture, this resort could be outstanding. The physical property is already there. If the service matched it, we would absolutely consider returning.

  Family vacation

  We are a family of 18 leaving tomorrow and we have all had the most wonderful family vacation. Much do to the amazing help and kindness shown to all our family from our outstanding butler Yanny . From making all our reservations to checking at different times of the day to make sure we were all looked after and wanting nothing. We would def return to Royalton Bavaro . Thank you Yenny you are truly a wonderful asset to the Royalton Bavaro .

  Average Resort

  Firstly, I want to emphasize that I'm not to difficult to please so I'm not one of these super picky individuals. Having said that, when my partner and I entered our room in the "18" block, the floor wasn't clean with paper bits and hairs on the floor and in the bathroom area. The curtain rods were broken. The shower dripped while the hand-held unit in the shower was broken. Our coffee machine was also broken. The fridge wasn't cold. The toilet seat was broken. The room often had musty smells even though our room was on the second floor. There was only one main buffet and the front of the resort catering to 730 rooms causing line-ups for breakfast and dinner. We had a very difficult time booking restaurants with their app as all were showing no availability. We managed to get into three restaurants after checking multiple times probably because people had cancelled their reservations. My partner got diarrhea.

  Another week in paradise

  We’ve been loyal to the Royalton brand for our last five or six vacations. We’ve done Royalton Splash in PC a couple of times and Riviera Cancun in the Mayan Riviera. We finally got the chance to check out Royalton Bavaro this past week - what a great time we’ve had. Our butler, Ramon was a shining star. I don’t think “no” or “I can’t do it” is in his vocabulary. He took care of our dinner reservations, requests for the room and made sure everything was top notch. 100% would love to return.
