  Very disappointing resort experience.

  This resort was the worst one I have ever stayed at. Room problems started right away with only the phone in the bathroom working (they did fix the main one), the shower door didn't close completely so we had towels on the floor to catch the water spraying out, twice we didn't have warm water for showers, and when we called about our room not staying at a constant temperature the maintenance person told us it couldn't be set to hold a temperature so just turn the air off and on as needed. So we were either too cold or the room was too muggy and who wants to get up in the middle of the night and try to turn it off/on. Our hallway had water on the floor every minute we were there with just a wet floor warning sign. The food was the biggest disappointment of all. They don't tell you that you have to have reservations for the steak house and Italian restaurant. When we tried to get a reservation for either place they were full until 8:30-9:00. The buffet food was served cold unless they cooked it right in front of you and we didn't find the selection to be anything we wanted. The bar had a very limited menu and to make matters worse they couldn't make a philly sandwich or fish n chips the entire week we were there. One night it took them over 1.5 hours to make us 3 hamburgers. Another night they served us rare hamburgers. We did enjoy the coffee shop and the burgers made in the trailer by the kids swimming area. They advertise room service but the selection of what you can order is very small and they say it may take up to 90 minutes to get what you order. Most of the employees were friendly, the beach was nice and we enjoyed the excursions they helped us set up. But overall, I would never go back and I am disappointed that we chose to go here.

  Loved Our Stay

  DO NOT believe all the terrible reviews! I was so nervous about this trip after reading some of the awful things people wrote about the Royalton. Like every resort there are things that are excellent and things that need work. None of it was a deal breaker for us- my daughter and I had a terrific five day vacation! Dining: We thought the food was great. In the main restaurant where you don't need a rez, there are plenty of buffet stations -both with prepared food items and made for you stations. We loved the fresh fish counter and they cook the fish perfectly. The pasta station was awesome (but not the alfredo sauce). As other reviewers mentioned the omelet station was amazing. There was one night out of five that I felt wasn't the restaurant's best- but overall pleased! It was easy for us to book the Grazie and Caribbean restaurants but to be honest, the main restaurant was just as good. Beach: Yes we went out between 7-8am to put towels down to get chairs with an umbrella by the beach. There would have been shade by the pool if we didnt. Plenty of lounge chairs. The ocean was cloudy for 4/5 days not like the photos at all- we were so bummed. The last day it cleared up. The beach bar was great -we loved the mojitos, rum punches and mudslides. The bartenders aren't super friendly but they have a tough job. Drinks were well made. Yes there are guys who walk down the beach trying to get you rent their boat or jet ski, most of them are cool. One guy named Tarzan did not want us talking to any of the other vendors and I had to tell security that he was being obnoxious by our lounge chairs (but security didnt care). Rooms: Our room was gorgeous, modern, well cleaned. The housekeeping was excellent. These are modern updated rooms with great bedding and towels. Our AC ran too cold and you couldn't adjust it warmer than 26c. Entertainment: Each night by the martini bar there is some show or dance on the little stage. Valentines Day show was amazing. The other nights - a few things happened after 10pm -like karaoke but we were already in bed. We booked the "Excellence" boat trip through the hotel/Nexus Tours. Highly recommend lots of fun and the boat brings you back to hotel. Our hotel/airport transfer was through Eagle Transport- was a little cheaper than Nexus. We would definitely go back to the Royalton Antigua! Thanks so much!

  Overall good experience

  It was a good experience overall . Resort is very clean and room was being cleaned on a daily basis. The buffet and The restaurants food was good. Did room service a few times and the turkey and cheese wrap was really good. I would recommend this resort.

  Beach was lovely. Rooms were clean, buffet and hunter were fantastic. Vibes team, especially Neil and Richard, were fun and played pickleball with us.

  Nice beach and staff but not much to do.

  The beach is beautiful. The rooms are clean but need some serious updating-especially the showers-love the double rainfall heads and hot water but the shower leaks all over the floor and it has been calked and re-calked many times. Housekeeping-Wendy-was great and cheerful- plenty of towels and fridge was always stocked as requested. A week here is plenty as there is not a whole lot to do on the resort. Buffet was fine but a lot of the food on the burners was not hot. The steakhouse Hunters was good. Coffee shop was great except for the leaky roof. We were not Diamond Club and would not recommend. They had their own side of the beach and pool, pool bar side, breakfast nook, and special little area at the buffet and a butler. We’re not that kind of people. We noticed most people don’t tip and most the staff notice that. There are not enough staff to cover the bars most the time especially when they have to make fancy drinks for all the kids too. Self service pop/coffee stations would be a great idea to have around the resort. A lot of kids and other vacationers didn’t pick up after themselves- cups-drinks-plates-towels left laying around the pool and beach. Staff try to keep up but cannot. The Vibe team was great. Our first week there were not many kids, mostly 55 and up crowd. This week LOTS of kids and families-nowhere to get away not even the bar. It is a small resort in need of updating.
