  "Tequila, It makes me happy..."

  Booked Riu Tequila, Playacar, Mexico for 10 days over Christmas 2025. My wife and I worked hard all year so thought we'd splash out on a Mexican Carribean holiday. The hotel is very nice. Great social spaces to eat, drink, be alone or party hard. You can have it all here. Several pools offer sports, family, peaceful or drinking in the pool bar. A main restaurant and smaller speciality restaurants offer good food. A 24 hour sports bar with hot snacks is a great idea if you like sport (or can't sleep). The staff are great. Hard working, they remain happy and helpful to all. They are this hotel's finest asset. The location is good. One hour from the airport.5 mins walk to the beach. Close to sister hotels (you can use their facilities). 10 mins taxi to 5th Avenue shopping area. Plenty of theme parks nearby and day trips aplenty. We went snorkelling and had a great day. We have had a great stay here at Riu Tequila. We would be happy to return again one day.

  Great stay

  Very good hotel, helpful staff, very rich breakfast nad dinner buffets. From a la carte I recommend only italian one (steak one horrible, chinese ok). Plenty of space in the swimming pools, no queues for drinks in the bars (very busy and quick staff). Up to 10 minutes walk in shaded promenade to the wonderful beach with plenty of sunbeds. On the beach you can use Riu Yucatan restaurant and bars. If you hesitate between Yucatan and Tequila, Tequila is much better, villas located in the beautiful gardens, no crowds in the swimming pools (in Yucatan swimming pool totally crowded).

  Great stay with excellent food and attentive staff

  I had a really lovely stay at RIU Tequila in Playa del Carmen and would happily recommend it. The hotel is clean, well-maintained, and never felt overly busy, which made it easy to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The food was good, the buffet had a great variety and was consistently good quality, and it was nice to have several à la carte restaurants to switch things up when you wanted something different. Plenty of choice and something for everyone. The beach is very close by, just a short walk, and it’s clean and well looked after. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly, attentive, and hardworking, which really added to the experience. There are souvenirs stores a 2 minute walk away, and a taxi to the centre for around 200 pesos. Taxis were always waiting at the front to take you. You can also enter some of the other riu hotels around the area to switch things up. The only minor downside was the shower temperature, which was either freezing cold or very hot but this may have just been an issue with our specific room rather than the hotel as a whole. Overall, a really enjoyable stay with great food, cleanliness, a convenient location, and excellent service. I’d definitely consider staying here again.

  Lovely second visit

  Just spent our second visit at Tequilla Royal after a lovely week the previous year. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. Cleanliness: Always clean. The true sign of hard working cleaners is the state of the pool side toilets. This place is spotless. Food: Great choices at all restaurants. Staff: Always friendly and helpful. No constant pressure for tipping. For me, this means larger tips at the end of the week for favourite staff because they have been great all week long. Rooms: Always amazing, my only complaint would be coffee not being topped up.on the mini bar, but i could have raised it to reception if I really wanted. Bars: Good drink sizes and decent stuff. Pools: No fights over sunbeds. Plenty of spares and nicely spaced out.

  Another Great Trip

  Just getting around to this review. We’ve visited this resort more than a few times and it just gets better. We had such a great time. As always the pools and food were great. I think this is the best kept secret considering the amenities you get compared to price. The resort is not quite on the beach but about a 10 minute walk down a path way. There is a shuttle that goes continuously during the day. I can run there in less than 3 minutes. We really like the layout of the pools and the swim up pool and it is Adults Only. You have access to the Playacar and you Yucatan which is nice for lunch etc. We always visit the playacar for lunch and meet Willie. He’s been there forever and such a nice guy. Jerry (not his real name) is a Customer Service person who is always making sure your trip is going fine. This past trip my wife left her pool bag at home. Once he knew it wasn’t long before she got one. Such a great guy. A few shouts to Dalia, Rey, Tania and Rosie. Veronica, one of our favorites was on vacation this time around. All the staff were very nice and can’t remember all the names. Can’t wait for our next rip.
