Spectacular Trip!

I would rate this hotel a strong 4, possibly 5 star. I was scared from some of the reviews I read, but I had a friend that went last year and said it was awesome, and she was not lying! I arrived on Saturday, March 2, getting through immigration took about 45 minutes (long line) but after that, everything was smooth sailing. My ride was waiting, I was at my resort (1 prior drop off before me, next door to the Riu Republica, ADULTS ONLY) and checking in, getting to my room, everything was a breeze! I was in room 184, it was VERY quiet, very clean, well stocked, nice and cool (yes, there were robes and plenty of alcohol). I went to the buffet next to the ocean 3 times a day, it was SO good. Everything was delicious, even the coffee. I ate at the jerk chicken shack every day for lunch, it was delicious! I drank the water (I got cups of water from the pool bar when I would get an alcoholic drink) and never got sick. I always ordered a pina colada (with extra rum) and the drinks were delicious, and plenty strong enough. All the people that complain about this place, I guess they live in million dollar mansions, because the Riu was beautiful, well maintained, and everything was perfect in my opinion. I plan on going back for sure! Loved it!

Nice place. Buffet food looks great but lacked flavor. Go to the actual restaurants. They say you don't need a reservation but when you get there, even though their are 20 open tables, they will put you on a list and make you wait for 20 minutes. That's when the all you can drink comes in. lol. I would go again. Enjoy! Oh, if you have a resort 'spa credit'...you can forget that. I had $1400 and you can only use $20 here and $20 there on a $200 massage. So it would still cost you $180. That's not right, they never said that. Staff is ridiculously friendly and very detailed. I don't know how they work so much and keep up the positive attitude but I guess paradise will do that to you.

Great time in the DR

We vacationed in the DR from 3/3 - 3/10/2019. I was hesitant about staying at RIU Republica after reading many reviews; however, the resort did not disappoint! The resort is extremely large and may not be best suited for individuals who have mobility issues. We did not mind the walk from our room to the beach each day as the grounds are well manicured and beautiful. We requested a room in the quiet section and were placed in the newest building towards the back of the resort near the waterslides. A large number of rooms overlook the main part of the resort where the bulk of the foot traffic, restaurants and shows are held and could be quite loud at night.....we preferred a longer walk each day and peace and quiet. We visited most restaurants during our 7 night stay and always found something we enjoyed. The beach at RIU Republica is very large and expansive. Chairs and palapa space is not an issue; however, you do need to be willing to move your chair around to make space for yourself. Our only complaint was the number of college spring breakers that were at the resort. Many of the kids just wanted to party with people their own age, have fun and mingle but there were plenty of incidents we witnessed that were uncomfortable and annoying to those around them. We completely enjoyed our stay and would recommend this resort to others.

RIU Republica

The resort was great, food? Not so much and service was a bit lacking primarily because of the language barrier. But I made due and nonetheless I had a great time. I would definitely recommend

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

A palatial retreat where the mixin' and the minglin' is only with adults - no kids or crying babies at this resort.

You're located on Dominican's Macoa Beach - the mind-boggling ocean views go on for days.

Taking the introductory scuba lesson (it happens in the pool) - you'll be ready for the ocean waters in no time.

The pools are spacious - you won't bump into each other - no one wants to be that close (especially if the bathrooms are faraway).

When you're ready for your next cocktail, all you have to do is just swim on over to the bar.

Detoxing in the steam bath at the gym (all those icky work impurities will stream out of your pores).

The whirlpool bath that makes you feel like a jelly fish.

What We'd Change

The resort is large, but you really don't feel crowded and the restaurants can accommodate everyone easily and there is plenty of room at the pools.

Why You Should Go

So close to the airport you'll land and be at the resort in a flash - you want your vacay to start immediately!

The Mediterranean-style village Altos de Chavon is near - authentic architecture, swoon-worthy boutiques, cafes & more.

Also in Altos de Chavon, check the Amphitheatre for Kandela! - don't miss this Caribbean musical review.

See the lush landscapes at the Punta Cana Ecological Reserve: plants, animals, coral reef, freshwater lagoons & more.

Hone your golf skills and tune up your tennis swing - both are available near the resort.
