  Overall a nice experience but certainly not 5 star

  Overall good experience. Beautiful beach with tons of lounges. Entertainment staff were incredible working all hours of day. They were: Jessica Daniela. Dj Fernando Maria Belen Kareem Jazmin Angel The steak house was by far the best restaurant. The quality of the food and superb service led by Jesus. Manager. Other restaurants were just ok with nothing special. The buffets were the same day after day with no variation The nightly entertainment was excellent with Friday nights at the nearby RIU Tequila (5 minute walk) featuring the White party and the Neon party. Room service was very good We stayed in room 7322, 4th. Floor above steak house. THERE ARE NO ELEVATORS so the trek up was tiresome. Hallways look like something from a Steven King movie….. DO NOT ACCEPT A ROOM INTHE REAR OF ANY BUILDINGS as the noise from close by resorts is very very loud. They initially offered us a standard room in the rear and we didn’t last 10 seconds there before g returning to front desk……..be persistent in your request for change. Drinks are typical of all inclusive. They do offer drink service on beach. And each day they do a food demo and serving rights on beach… incredible. Taxis to airport will be under $100 and takes at least an hour. Yesterday, ours took 1 1/2 hours They will charge you $12. Per hour for late checkout…..if available. Overall, the staff work so hard here trying to please everyone… don’t forget a tip here and there goes very much appreciated.

  Think twice about RIU Playacar

  We loved it last year, rebooked for two weeks this year. While we thought the food was good last year, we can't say the same thing this year; we have already eliminated going back to two of the restaurants. Our first room had a broken door, the second one had an out of control toddler screaming every morning before 8am. There were hardly any children here last year, there are plenty now. While they claim to offer certain brands of alcohol, the only good Tequila on the list has not been available at the pool bar for days and is now in another cabinet at the main bar. They must be marketing children are free: many adults are in vacation mode and don't discipline their children as many don't these days. It is not pleasant having a screaming child at the table next to you at a restaurant or the beach. On a brighter note there are always beach loungers available, the entertainment is good and the staff is nice and friendly providing good service.

  Amazing two weeks

  Ten out of ten for all aspects of our stay ! The food , staff , entertainment the room and beach , we stayed on 6316 over looking the jungle at the back we saw woodpeckers, Coates , sereqes beautiful birds too the hotel is spotlessly clean and we loved it that much we’re returning in April ! Lots of names to thank jorge and Rosa and Edgar at the pool bar , Davy in the lobby bar to name but a few The location is excellent with a shopping area to the front and a 15 min walk to fifth ave Thank you to all the playacar staff see you soon !

  Beautiful stay with a horrible experience at the end

  It is a beatiful place, with spotless rooms, fantastic and clean beach and tasty food. Restaurants served a variety of meals and all of them - Mexican, Italian or Asian were great. However, I cannot give anything else than 1 as final rating. Despite paying additional 85 USD for late checkout our bracelets were cut at 5 p.m. and we could not get any dinner before a 16-hour travel. We wanted to pay additionally for the dinner but it was rejected. Such a thing never happened to us anywhere in the world. Such a pity, it was such a nice stay. Never comming back to Riu.

  Fantastic Holiday , Fantastic Hotel

  This was our 3rd visit in a year and the whole experience from the ground staff, cleaners, reception team , bar staff , waiters and maintenance staff is first class and all work so hard. All areas were spotless as usual and although there were a few days when Sargassum was particularly bad the staff worked really hard to clean the beach. Special mention to all the bar staff at the pool bar and La Cumbia bar especially Eduardo , special mention to Nestor for looking after us at lunch. Can highly recommend and although we are not ones to visit hotels year after year we have booked again for Jan 2027, this tells you everything.
