Worst RIU we have ever stayed at!

After the 3rd day and people complaining that the pool were so filthy (you could not see your feet at the bottom of 4' or less) they told us to get out they were closing it. The 4 of us all got skin rashes all over us and still have them now. There is no one walking around skimming the pools. The children fill the adult pool where the open bar is and those who smoke (non-smoking hotel) are not told to stop. The platforms around the pools are filthy and slippery even in areas where children run. No one attends to them. In fact the white exterior has black mold on the walls and rust on the metal poles at the pool bar and they know it but have done nothing about it. On top of it all the hotel had NO WATER for a full day and night so we had to use buckets. The people throughout spoke very little English and unless you got to management they could not help until. They were very hard to find though. As for the rooms - typical double size but only 2 table chairs, bed and dresser in them. No couch or desk yet even low end hotels furnish better. The manager, Victor, had plenty of explanations but did say but he realized the problems. They were polite and food was plentiful but very plain in taste. But get to the buffet early. When they say the restaurant closes at 10:30 am they mean they take the food away yet they let you come in until then. Same with pool towels. Pools close at 6:00 but the towel return closes at 5:30! So you have to take your wet smelly towels to your room overnight or pay $20.00 for each lost pool card. Quite a money maker! Definitely not what we are used to at RIU but other then "we know it" thrre were no apologies. I tried to inform RIU but there website has no method to comment. "Cheap Caribbean" should not recommend this one ESPECIALLY SINCE IT REQUIRES A 2 HOUR DRIVE from the airport.

Cool vacation

The resort is 2 hours away from airport but the transportation company turned it into a tour. The resort is good. Entertainment wasn't that great. The host mostly spoke in Spanish. No translation! Dinner options were ok. Breakfast only carried bacon every other day which sucked!! Overall for the price we paid it was ok. As far as excursions we visited Anton valley.... they have hot springs, zip lining. And shopping!!

Too far from the airport

Overall everything is good but the food quality and drink quality is not what you expect it to be though. However, you have access to 24/7 drinks. The Italian dinner are really stingy with their service. Don't expect to get a buffet for their Salmon food because there is a restriction on what you will get. To get to the airport, please leave very very early. If possible leave like 5hours before you flight or else you will miss your flight.

The resort could use your more live entertainment options, more diverse selection of music. Local music is great, but hey people from around the world vacation here. Pool restroom options tend to be too far away or not existent in the local area I'm pretty sure people use the pool for more reasons than one. Wifi is available only in the lobby unless you pay extra for the option to have it else where. Food selection was great, the rooms are updated with lots of great comfort amenities such as private wet bar and mini fridge. Large restroom in the room with a walk in shower his and her sinks are a bonus. Staff keeps the resort very clean at all times.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The palm-tree studded & crystal white-sand beach that's kissed by teal waves.

The boxy, white chic look of the resort and the sleek, hip rooms. It's rock star cool.

RiuLand for kids ages 4-7 and 8-12, children's pool (with a big fun slide) and play area.

Complimentary gym with the sauna. Vacay is the time to purify.

Hanging in the Jacuzzi at the pool and letting it bubble the stress right out of your bod.

What We'd Change

Although the drive from the airport can be a little lengthy, the views of the beautiful Panamanian landscape and payoff after arriving at Riu Playa Blanca are more than worth it.

Why You Should Go

It's 93 miles from the resort (a bit of a drive), but once you get there, it's heaven.

Dive into kayaking windsurfing or the aquagym. Get wet, wild and exercisy.

Check out the snorkeling (fish ogling) and scuba lessons in the pool. Take the plunge.

You can grab a game of volley ball or table tennis, or hit the fitness center for inside sweating.

The shows, live music, disco or cocktails under the moonlight are epic.
