More than I expected
It was our first experience at an all inclusive resort. We are 73 & 72 years old and wanted to spend time with our grandchildren. I read a lot of reviews before we went so I tried to go with an open mind and enjoy not cooking for a week. We booked everything through a travel agent so she got us an upgraded ocean view room. She said it didn’t cost much more so I agreed. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Jandry. He became my go to person for all our needs. We texted each other a lot especially on the first day trying to get our bearings. Since we were allowed to check in online, we only needed to show our passports. No need to have a credit card on file for additional expenses since everything is included except the spa. We ended up getting a corner suite on the top floor with the best view in the entire hotel. I tipped a lot so I’m not sure if we got such a special room because it or not but having that room really made our stay special. Thanks to Jandry. Because it’s a family friendly resort, the party pools close at 6:00pm. That made me very happy because the music was loud when we arrived in the afternoon of December 28. Everyone we met was smiling and friendly. Never met a bad attitude like some reviews mentioned. It was very similar to being on a cruise ship for us. We were told by more experienced all inclusive resort goers that it was more low end resort because it didn’t have as many activities. Which didn’t bother us because we’re 73! We only had one bad experience. We wait a very long time at one of the few themed restaurants- Krystal. You can’t make reservations so we had to get in line at 5:30 even though they opened at 6:00. We waited about a half hour to get drink orders. Another 30 minutes to take food orders and another 30 minutes to get the food. I couldn’t eat my fish. The others said their steaks were good. You would think that they would do better with fish since it’s on an island, right? Also, forget what they call orange juice. It’s gross watery stuff. We went parasailing via a vendor on the beach. There were 8 of us. We bartered a bit and paid $500. My husband, son and 12 year old grandson are all certified scuba divers so they went on a half day scuba adventure on the other side of the island. They said it was fantastic. So all in all we had a great time and really glad we created a few more memories together with our family while we still can.

BORING, BORED, LACK OF ENTERTAINMENT UNLESS YOU ARE LATIN AMERICAN! DO NOT GO IF YOU ARE FROM EUROPE!
We are still currently staying at this hotel but kind of can’t wait to leave. We booked a cruise and stay with TUI, we didn’t just choose the cheapest hotel and went for a mid price range one and thought a Riu hotel would be a good choice. Over the week we are totally bored and can’t wait to leave. THE GOOD…. Public areas kept clean. Room clean and large, although dated and botched repairs, which cheapens it. Lots of sunbeds so no sunbed wars! Food choice good. Staff friendly. Grounds well kept. Plenty of seating in areas. Mini bar in room is plentiful. The Riu app. Plenty of staff to take your drink orders. THE BAD….. Lots of broken sunbeds. Coffee is disgusting unless from the coffee shop and even then no milk choice. No fresh milk in the rooms, or hardly anywhere in the hotel. Food is very representative in the lunch buffet. The buffet isn’t kept clean and that makes the food less appealing! People taking food with hands due to not enough utensils and the utensils that are there have been cross contaminated! Shower in the room smelly( sewage smell) and a screeching noise. Toilet constantly running, we reported via the app and each time said it was resolved but wasn’t. I’m a diabetic and I certainly don’t trust ( due to a language barrier) that I was always given sugar free coke/ Pepsi. The rep told me to request bottled sugar free sodas to my room and take it down to the restaurants etc myself. THE UGLY…… ABSOLUTELY DO NOT CATER IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM FROM NONE LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES! It’s not even a 1% chance of any entertainment in any other language! Every night the same… a boring dance act followed by some very questionable “singers” that only sing in Latin American! The entertainment team love themselves so much and don’t bother entertaining. Daytime entertainment NONE EXISTENT! Unless they want guests to promote the “Riu party” for a minutes and then nothing! IT REALLY IS THAT BORING IN THE EVENINGS FOR NONE LATIN AMERICANS!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Riu palace Punta Cana
Family Xmas break stay Check in smooth easy Outside grounds very well kept Room could be better. Turn down service completed daily, but being less then 7 years under Reno. Room table lamp rusty shower rusty soap and fan holders falling off not properly secured , cockroaches in the room. Buffet staff polite and willing to accommodate and not tip hungry Evening restaurants good food options least favorite likely Spanish Beach has lots of chair to pick from Slight Seaweed but that’s not on hotel, sand was cleaned in am by a guy on tractor To to many vendors on the beach offering all types of chachkas and deals deals deals Get annoying Overall 4.2 Not sure if will consider Riu for next trip destination
