4 stars
The hotel is good overall: everything is clean, and the food in the buffet sometimes is good. Overall, all the remaining food is reused and served again in different variations. However, the food in the à la carte restaurants is terrible. The entertainment is very basic and primitive. The New Year’s celebration was done very well — they really made a big effort.

A seven day break at the Riu palace peninsula
The hotel generally was in good shape, as seen from my photo attached, the room was fairly basic and plain but still a good size and with a pretty good shower and bathroom. It would be a stretch to say it was luxurious. There was a bathtub located outside the shower area and more towards the beds, we didn’t use it, a bit of a waste of space really. A good view from the balcony. The restaurants were all good and with no need to book them in advance slthough if they were full you couldn’t get in. For November, it was fairly quiet, not too many crowds and line ups and for the restaurants we ate early before most people came. The pools were all good, fairly deep so limited for children, all good and clean. We mostly walked past the pools and sat down on the beach under the palms. Service out there was okay but limited to one guy bringing drinks round. The only issue there was the elevators, three of them constantly breaking down. On one day all 3 were out and we had to squeeze into the sevice elevator 4 at a time. l used the gym every day, it was okay, but limited resources, although not crowded. Food was the best, l’d say the best l’ve ever had at any Cancun hotel, couldn’t fault it. A bit of a drive from the airport, about an hour due to alot of traffic around the resort. I’d stay again if the opportunity came up.

The rooms need renovation
The overall hotel location was fine. Sea and Beach was really good. The rooms were spacious, but it was pretty much worn out. There’s a cleaning issue in the hotel especially at restaurant areas and common areas are very greasy. You always like slipping. The food was OK. You could find some things to eat. The alcohol quality was really low, but the beer was good especially the bottled ones. There are a lot of people go there for their party experience. If you are looking for that you can definitely choose. But if you are visiting as family and the other topics I mentioned are more important for you. You can choose better options for your money. Overall I would say the main positive thing for the hotel was the staff. They were really good and helpful. The check-in process was extremely long. That was one of the worst check in experience I had.

Smoking
Love the Riu chains, we travel 4 to 5 times a year to them. We would have given 5 stars but lately they don't seem to be enforcing the non smoking rules. We love to sit out on deck enjoy the view and a coffee but are breathing in the neighbors smoke. Also smoking on the pool decks. I sure hope the clamp down on this and make them smoke in the desanated areas.

Great Resort with Friendly Staff
My wife and I spent four nights at this resort. We had spent a week previously, some eight years ago. The resort was great then and nothing has changed since. The common areas, rooms and entire resort is modern and clean. The staff works effortlessly to maintain this resort in a fashion that reflects the overall standards of a RIU Palace. The entire staff is helpful and friendly. Mara at the lobby bar is a wonderful person and the management should be very proud of her. Working six days a week and raising a family is never easy. Mara always displays a positive attitude and is a pure pleasure to be around. Diego at the lobby bar is another example of a hardworking young man who always has a smile on his face. Bryan at the breakfast buffet also is a polite and friendly young man. That is just a few of the many employees that made our trip remarkable. From the rooms to the public restrooms, everything is modern and clean. The alcohol is top shelf, and the food is very good. Never had to wait at a specialty restaurant, since we ate between 6:00pm and 6:30pm. Dress shorts, a collared shirt and shoes is acceptable attire. for all the restaurants. Overall, I would highly recommend this resort. We will definitely return in the near future.
