2nd visit and still great!
This is the only hotel we have stayed at twice as the first time, 3 years ago, was so enjoyable. The staff are all very friendly, courteous and attentive. The whole hotel is clinically clean with housekeepers working around the clock to keep everywhere immaculate. We stayed at the adult villas this time as opposed to the main building. This was a good choice as it was quieter and felt more exclusive, especially not having to wait for the lifts in the main building. The room was spacious and bright with maid service twice per day and the minibar restocked daily with ample drinks and water. We had an issue with cockroaches in the room the first day. Reception handled this promptly with an outside company coming in to fumigate the room within the hour. We did not complain about this as we accept hot countries can have this problem and I we did request a ground floor room. As an apology the hotel gave us a free late checkout! Food and drink was plentiful and of a good variety. The restaurants are great but we tended to eat in the main buffet restaurant due to the incredible choice. We have a couple of feedback points however. Firstly, the reception, foyer, coffee bar and piano lounge all share the same open space. It can become incredibly loud when enjoying a cocktail for example. The piano player tends to play as loud as possible to get over the noise and people are passing in their swimwear while other are dressed up to enjoy their evening. Secondly, the entertainment reminded us of a 1970's Spanish hotel style. Say no more. In the first few days there were many Nationalities staying. All well behaved and respectful. Then came the influx of American guests. The peace was then shattered by all the "whoo whoos" " Awesome's" and " OMG's". They tended just to drink shots all day and behave like excited teenagers let loose from their parents for the first time. However, they were not young, typically being around 40 we guessed. All in all we had another very enjoyable stay and would highly recommend this hotel. It does cater for couples, families and groups alike. For a bit more peace and quiet we would recommend the adult villas that have their own shared pool.

Great until items where stolen
Great until our stuff got stolen Lovely holiday stayed here as attending a friend’s wedding - but unfortunately we had valuables stolen when checking out! Do not leave luggage unattended my suitcase had a number of items stolen only realised when home - absolutely gutted ruined the holiday wouldn’t recommend! Also my friend who was also staying at the hotel had money missing -on floor 11 £150 dollar taken from the safe ! All in the same week! Appalling

Airport food better than resort food
My fiancee and I stayed here for 3 nights. Here’s a breakdown of the good and bad. Good: Lots of pools, beach is fantastic and no sargassum. The employees definitely work hard to keep the place clean and room service /housekeeping was great. Bad: The food was atrocious, we realized very quickly why there is a bidet in the suites. The drinks were watered down, but I think that’s any resort you go to nowadays. The property itself was outdated, and for some reason the lack of running ceiling fans in most of the hotel was confusing, especially with how humid and hot it was. The gift shop is a total rip off, avoid at all costs and just make the trek 3 minutes south to the farmacia.

Could've been a 10/10 but I'll give it a 6/10...here's why...
Overall our stay was really great!!! However, there's a couple of things that should be addressed. First I should note that I spent a week at this resort in which I got married on the property and brought 46 other guests with my party that all stayed on the property so we brought a lot of business and spent plenty of money there. But no matter if we were a party of 2 , any paying guest is entitled to proper services. Overall, we had a great time but I have to point out the bad parts, especially since this was the most important day to my wife as it was her wedding... the first thing and the worst was that the air conditioner in our room did not work and that was especially difficult to deal with with the temps being 90 and above and humid with no escape for 7 days. I reported the issue and no one came to fix it. 2nd, we we're locked out of our room 3 times due to the battery in the door card reader being dead, I had seen this before so i immediately reported that the battery may be dead but it took them 3 times to finally figure it out. Next there was an issue with the sales/store clerk person inside of the hotel at the retail store next to the sports bar where I attempted to purchase a cigar; the situation was that the previous day my brother bought a cheap cigar for $8 usd - the next day I went in looking for the same $8 cigar and the lady told me that all she had was a selection that ranged from $50 - $80 USD. I then asked "are you sure? I'm pretty sure there's a cigar in here thats under the $20 USD price range" . She continued to say "No Sir, This is all we have". So I went out and talked to my brother and he assured me that he definitely bought an $8 cigar from this place. So I went back into the store and told the lady that my brother had bought one for $8 just yesterday and then she suddenly remembered that she indeed did have one for $8. In that moment I felt like I was being taken advantage of as a tourist and just didn't feel good about that at all... The worst thing that happened was when our flower girl's dress was left at the front desk to be delivered to our room that actually never made it to our room; when my wife went down to the desk to pick it up she was met with dismissive and rude treatment by the staff named Madai. Madai told my wife that the item was not there and she refused to look for it because there were no notes in the computer regarding the situation. My wife was left standing there with no resolve and basically being told too bad theres nothing we can do. Now, I understood that obviously someone had dropped the ball and didn't send the proper message to the next shift but proper customer service should have given my wife a much more pleasant response such as , "We don't have any notes on this but we will do all that we can to figure it out"... but instead she was dismissed and left frustrated and that is absolutely not ok in the service industry. The issue was resolved after I approached a different lady at the desk and suggested to her that maybe it was placed in a bag and set someplace random and she politely took a look around and found the item in less than a minute. I did not get the 2nd lady's name but super thanks to her.... Now on the bright side there was a gentleman named Alex who helped us when we first arrived and he continued to show up with exemplary service going above and beyond to give us an amazing experience, He's just an amazing asset to the resort. I also must mention Pedro at the front desk who also gave us the most amazing service attitude possible, Roman out at the Beach Bar was also just amazing to all of us while we were hanging out late at the bar, please let them know that they all had a huge impact on our stay. Outside of those things our stay was amazing, the food was top notch and everything else was just amazing...Thank you

Best beach, best partys, best food
I came back to Riu Peninsula after a previous bad experience with the managers Ira and Alexandro , and I have to say this time was amazing. Pedro at reception is the best—very helpful, professional, and always solving problems with a smile. He truly represents the spirit of the hotel and should be top person in managment, he makes your stay more enjoyable. Violeta, the manager, was also very friendly and helpful. The guest relations team was fantastic too—they even helped me with a UPS delivery, which I really appreciated. The beach is beautiful and seaweed-free, unlike many other places in Cancun. You can also visit other Riu hotels for free, which is a great perk. The parties are some of the best I’ve been to, with Loui from security adding lots of fun and energy. The waiters are always friendly and helpful as well. Eduardo and Mairo from stake house are really good and helpfull. Overall, this stay completely changed my perspective on Riu Peninsula. I’ll definitely be coming back again. 🌴✨
