What We Love
- No reservations needed for any of the restaurants.
- This palatial paradise has two shimmering pools, plus a prime beachy location. Sun worshippers, you'll be in love.
- Tucked into a gated, upscale community, the swanky decor here is modern and chic.
- This Beach Eden is geared for families and adults, so the crowd isn't a rowdy party crew.
- Weights. Cardio. Stretching. It's going on every morning and afternoon.
- Dipping into a relaxing steam bath and whirlpool after your stress-smashing workout.
- Carving out some much needed naptime on the beach. The swaying palms will be your lullaby.
Things to Know
- Playa del Carmen offers oceans to do nearby: Mayan ruins, shopping, Xaman-Ha Aviary and golf.
- Beach comb your way up and down the shores. Stop by a neighboring Riu for a free drink or two.
- The exceptionally friendly staff always greets you with a smile and will pamper you the moment you arrive.
- RiuLand keeps the kiddos entertained while you book a stress-smashing day at the spa.
- Looking for some friendly competitions - why not, right? Tennis, ping pong and volleyball are favs.

Much needed relaxing holiday
Hi all i stayed at riu palace mexico after staying in riu tequila 2 years prior i walked through the hotel and said im going to take my family here . So i did and was not disapointed from the moment we arrived we was in good hands check in was smooth and lady helped me get a mobility scooter to hire. Then we had an amazing man called Francisco take our luggage to our room . He was great remembered all our names and had nice conversations with us all . Room was fine would of prefered a courtyard facing room but it was ok . Hotel was good for a mobility scooter i could get it in our room . Entertainment was ok could of been better but it was just ok . Staff are all hard working . Food was some of the best ive had in all inclusive and drinks was good and all branded at the bars . Brrakfast was good i mainly ate omelettes every morning and a pot of tea or a jug of coffee . My daughter and partner mostly had ceraeal or pancakes and fruit . Lunchtime buffet was good but very hot by the beach or you could go to another 3 or 4 riu hotels . I chose riu tequila for lunch sometimes as it was air conditioned . Evening meal i mostly went to the a la carte steakhouse . And the coffeeshop was great and had lovely milkshakes and coffees and sandwhiches and biscuits . I got to say i really enjoyed our stay and big shout out to francisco on front door

Great staff but tired hotel
Just home from a nice week in Mexico, the best part of the holiday was the staff at the hotel they were so good and attentive The buffet was excellent but the small speciality restaurants lacked atmosphere especially the Italian they were not welcoming either. Drinks were good especially in the main hotel bar and the cafe there was excellent You really had to get up early to grab a sunbed with shade by the pool, there were lots of beds on the beach but we prefer the pool. The beach was stunning but the first 30m of the sea was a murky brown Apparently the hotel is closing for a refurbishment and it definitely needs one it is very tired, hopefully the rooms will be modernised and brought into the 21st century

Absolutely lovely stay!
This was our third visit to a Riu in Playacar property - we started with Lupita, then Tequila, and recently (end of Sept/early Oct) stayed at the Mexico Palace property. Really enjoyed them all but this was our favourite stay to date. 1. Check-in - excellent! The desk staff greeted us as we arrived , gave us a refreshing juice drink, and asked us the type of room that wanted to stay in. We asked for a quiet space on the top floor and that is exactly what we were given. Two thumbs up :) 2. Lobby amenities - there’s a 24/7 lounge with snacks available at any time. It has a coffee machine (handy!) plus various drinks and alcohol. It was a really nice place to hang out while waiting for our transfer back to the airport in our last day. There’s a small shop in case you don’t feel like leaving the property, a small chapel, lots of seating, a piano bar (excellent drinks and entertainment so always busy in the evening) and a coffee bar with excellent baking and desserts. I personally loved the purple and silver tones - made everything pop. 3. Room - we took the mini elevator up to the top floor (easy to navigate) and our luggage followed later. The room was lovely! We had two double beds that were pushed together so we called it a California king and called it a day. There is a coffee pot and grounds but we didn’t use it. There’s also a jetted tub in the middle of the room but we didn’t use it either. The room is huge so it’s not really in the way. The toilet has its own little closet. The shower has a door with the towels available on the inside so you can wrap yourself before exiting :) The bed was comfy enough without a topper, the pillows were nice, and the AC worked. We brought a fire stick for the tv which worked great. I think there are only 2 or 3 channels otherwise. Our balcony faced the back of the hotel which was okay with us. We didn’t spend any time out there. You could hear the shows at night but they end early enough that you can still have a good sleep. Couldn’t hear others around us unless they were yapping outside of our door. 4. Pools and beach - there are 2 “quiet” pools, one party pool, and the lobby bar pool - all fairly close together. And the beach is just a little further down the path. This was a BEAUTIFUL beach - the nicest we’ve seen during one of our stays. We walked over to the Riviera Palace Riu and the Mexico Palace beach is nicer. We had to get there early to get a shady spot each day but there were always chairs available somewhere. 5. Restaurants - we only ate at the buffet (morning and evening) and at the lunch buffet by the pools during the day. Great food with a ton of options. Loved it! We will 100% return to this resort again after it’s refinished and made into an adult only property. Thanks for the great stay!

We loved this place
Myself and a few friends absolutely LOVED this place. Been to a couple others in South America, but this place was the best. Beautiful beach. Everybody working there had a smile. Coffee bar, and regular bar in the lobby, sports bar which served quick food, 24/7. Bottles of liquor, {dispenses}. They also had bottles of wine there. The buffet was really good: No flies hanging around the food. A la carts., were excellent. Live music great. Rooms nice and clean. Approximately one hour drive from airport We are visiting Riu Negril in Jamaica in December, but I can't see it topping this one. We are making this location an annual thing . Thanks staff for a great experience, and we will see you again. 5 star for us, and there were 30 of us.

Fantastic 2nd visit and won’t be our last
We returned to RPM after 2 years, and loved the familiarity of the place and the staff, nothing has changed in terms of a high quality experience. We are all aware that the hotel is awaiting a refurb and relaunch (Elite? Adults only? Both?) but we had a fantastic week here all the same. We had room 130, one of the end ground floor suites. Huge room, tons of hanging space, great amenities and a fab view. As ever, food was consistently high quality, and we particularly enjoyed Krystal and Myagi restaurants, the latter we visited twice in the week. The pool areas were plentiful in terms of beds, great entertainment and that view out to sea that we miss so much when we’re away. The staff managed the sargassum daily, but in fact it was only a minor amount and it was cleared early every morning. Overall, a great vacation, we can totally understand why some fellow guests are on their 20th+ visit. We’ll be back after the refurb is complete.
