Horrible Rooms, Bad Beach, Nice service

My wife and I have gone to the Dominican Republic 2 other times to another resort. Punta Cana DR is an excellent place and people are very friendly. This resort, unfortunately did not live up to the standard we have come to expect in the Dominican Republic. Our first room had issues with the air conditioning that caused us to call maintenance twice. After they "fixed" the air, we went to sleep and woke up sick due to the smell of Gasoline in our room. It was incredibly strong and I'm very happy we actually woke up at all. When we went to the front desk to change rooms, the staff thought we were making things up to get an upgraded room. We had to argue to get a room where we could breathe. The next room was wet and you could smell mildew everywhere. This was probably due to the poor ventilation and air flow. We were so sick that we went to the 24 hour doctor and pharmacy to get antibiotics. It has been about a week since we have been home and I still have a nasty cough and sore throat. The "Resort credits" that they give you are pretty much useless. A message is $150 but you get $20 off. Limit one per day. The $10 for the casino is only given "Once you Win". We do not golf so I can not talk about those "credits". We picked an Adults-Only resort for a reason, however they let in children to the grounds and pools all the time. The beach was full of kelp and muck. We did not enjoy swimming in the ocean :*(. There were 3 large pools and they were very well kept. The activities personnel were excellent. The shows were fun and they kept everything funny and entertaining. They were the highlight of the trip. The buffets were good, however nothing was labeled. You had to take your best guess. This is especially hard for veterinarians. If you want to go to Punta Cana, I would look at another resort. There are many options for a comparable price out there and hopefully you will not get sick :).

Our first room had a bad odor and our second room smelled a little better this resort is much older than expected. The drinks were not strong the food is okay.. The staff barely speak English.. Overall I wouldn't book here again probably the much newer RIU in PuntaCana are better. I enjoyed my trip here though.

What's to Love

No reservations needed for any of the restaurants.

The 16-mile stretch of the legendary Arena Gorda Beach that will be your backyard of bliss.

It's an adults-only paradise = no cannonballs or high-pitched squealing at the pool.

The delicious treatments at the spa like anxiety-erasing massages, facials, and body wraps.

Stealing away at the Beach Eden, Soana Island. It's like being marooned, but in a good way.

Free WiFi throughout the rockin' resort. Update your status 'til the sea cows come home.

The handy, dandy liquor dispensers in your room. You can have that hour of happy any time you want.

What We'd Change

Drinks at Pacha nightclub are not included in the all inclusive package. But with four other bars offering free beverages, as well as Copacabana Amphitheater, you'll be just fine.

Why You Should Go

It's only 19 miles from the airport - that beach vacay you've been craving will be unfolding ASAP.

Three world-class golf courses are nearby. Grab those clubs. Play like you mean it.

Try your hand at water polo or Volleyball. Body boarding or Pedaloes. Get all sporty.

Set your sights on the beautiful sugar fields of Higuey and Altos de Chavon - a picture-worthy day trip.

You can ride horses at the Caribbean Cachondeo, or hang with the stingrays at the Marinarium Marine Park.

Check out Caribbean Street - shop 'til you drop. Then start all over again.
