Honeymoon

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon. First of all, I cannot say enough about the staff. Every single person we came in contact with was so nice and attentive. We weren't sure if we were going to be "ocean front" because our package only included the "ocean view" room but to our surprise, we were right on the ocean. Our view was absolutely amazing. As mentioned in previous reviews, the floors in the room can get pretty slippery so be careful. The mini bar in the room is restocked everyday and the housekeeping staff are amazing. The pools are the best. There is a pool thats more of a "party" pool with all the activities going on then a pool that is more for relaxation so you can pick a pool depending on your mood which we really enjoyed. The ledge in the pool to sit and overlook the ocean was our favorite spot. There are a ton of chairs so we never had any issues finding a place to sit outside. The beach is small but definitely not something that was an issue for us. The shows at night were so much fun, i love how they included the audience in them. Service was fantastic. We would go back.

Honeymoon at the beach

I booked this resort as a surprise for my wife as our honeymoon. We have vacationed before at another well known all inclusive in Jamaica and this tops that by leaps and bounds. From the moment we pulled up in the prebooked transportation we were excited by the beauty and service of the Riu Palace. Check in was a breeze and we were always well cared for by the staff. We were met by tourism rep in the airport who offered us a free catamaran ride if we visited another resort on the island owned by the locals. Briefly, most resorts are owned by foreign companies. This resort they offered to us (timeshare on a points system) was very nice and if you sat through half the day (breakfast, tour, and pitch) they gave out some nice gifts including a full days tour on a catamaran for two, as well as a bottle of tequila ( work this out with the rep at the airport). The point system timeshare is not a bad deal if you have the time and funds. Not for me and my wife at this time though. The catamaran was fun but took all day which isn't bad but not what we expected. It had a few stops, Isle of Mujeres, private part of the island with food and free booze. The excursion to the cenote was a worthwhile trip. Highly highly recommended. The resort was lovely overall. the part that could have stood to have some improvement was the nightly entertainment. That and the steaks while tender were always overcooked. We would stay again.

Great, but lacking in a few areas.

For the money, this place cannot be beat. The resort is absolutely beautiful and always clean. The service is beyond reproach. Everyone is kind, generous, and truly concerned with the quality of your stay. Abu and his brother, Fortunado, are the best bartenders you'll ever meet. The beach is beautiful. The resort needs to invest in more umbrellas. If you are not up bright and early, you will not get one. The theme restaurants are so-so. This was our third visit in four years. The menus haven't changed a bit. With the limited selection on each menu, one would think they would have it all perfected by now. They don't. Black and White (steakhouse) is by far the best. The rest remain in a constant tie for last place. The exception is Don Roberto, which is the mostly all-day buffet. The food there is always fantastic and has enough choices to keep guests happy every day. If you are there on a day when they set up the outside grills, you will really enjoy your lunch. The coffee bar is awesome. The 24-hour lounge smells like roadkill. It always has. We've never been able to figure it out. We only go there for bottled water, of which there is plenty. Drinks are always great. Entertainment ebbs and flows. We don't go for the entertainment, so a bad show is not a disappointment while a good show is an unexpected surprise. Our rooms have always been the same. We upgrade to an Ocean Front Junior Suite. The view has always been gorgeous. Housekeeping does a great job. They start pretty early, so if you want coffee and/or breakfast before you prep for the beach, you might want to leave the "Do Not Disturb" sign out. The AC could be better, but it's Mexico. It's hot and humid there. I suppose I give this place a strong 4/5 stars, given the price point. We have spent a lot more money on other all-inclusive resorts, and this one still wins. If it cost significantly more to travel here, my rating would go down. That said, we will continue to visit this place for our annual quick trip to the beach

Great Resort, they make everything easy.

As the title states, this resort is great. Great fun, great entertainment, great beaches and pools. Perfect cost through cheap caribbean. The only down side were the beds. Felt a little too stiff and rigid. But the only time spent in the room is too sleep since the resort has so much to offer. Great food and drinks, awesome spa and awesome night activities.

Great Resort, they make everything easy.

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2016, all-inclusive everything and no reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

You're a seashell's throw away from the Cancun Hotel Zone's awesome - shops, eats and clubs.

The massages at the Renova Spa. They squeeze every ounce of stress out of you.

The free scuba lesson in the pool. Dive in. It'll be a blast.

The Jacuzzi in one of the pools and the swim-up bar. Plenty of ways you can make a splash.

The resort feels like a huge Spanish castle, and this is perfect. Here, you're beach royalty.

At Los Arcos, you can get both Italian and Brazilian tapas. Delish.

What We'd Change

While the beach isn't large, there's still plenty of places to work on your tan and enjoy your own stretch of Cancun's finest beaches.

Why You Should Go

It's just 12.5 miles from the airport so get ready to get your vacay on. Soon.

You have access to Riu Caribe & Riu Cancun - kinda like you get three resorts in one.

Karaoke happens at night so rest your pipes and get ready to serenade your adoring fans.

Release your inner adventurer and go windsurfing, canoeing and snorkeling.

Mayan ruins are near - the pyramids of Kukulhan in Chechen Itza. Bring some sturdy shoes.

You can rent a scooter/moped and tour all the epic beachiness of Cancun that's around you.
